Had to dig through the archives for that! I do love a good before and after. People can now see again it’s been years of hard work, not an overnight success story.
I love that you let people know you can make a difference quickly, but it takes a few seasons to get to where you want to be. Patience has been been the hardest thing for me with the lawn.
It’s funny how one can feel like we know these RU-vidrs, but I appreciated the journey on your lawn and my lawn. Bought my home in spring 2021 and been at it since!
Yard is looking awesome! I am just beginning on my yard! The elderly couple next door have lived there for 50 years. They told me that nothing had ever really been done to the yard in the last 45 years! I am thinking of going with perennial ryegrass. I feel its too late this summer to get much going. Alot of dandelions and crabgrass, uneven yard, alot of work ahead! I wanted to thank you for the informative videos, they are giving me considerably more knowledge going into my first fall of lawn prep in this house!
It is great to see the results of lawn renovation over time. It seems that there is no single solution for every lawn. I am enjoying a successful lawn renovation program thanks to many of your helpful videos.
I found your channel only about a year ago so watching the full steps you have taken to get the beautiful peace of turf gives me a bit of hope for my project
Where I started to where I am now is night and day. So excited to see how it all started for you and where it is now also. Makes me feel like I’m on a great path. I stopped doing my own lawn due to lack of time for years and then decided when we moved to dive back in full and so glad I did. Thank you for all of your content and inspiration that anyone can do it.
I have been watching you for a few years now. I am not at your lvl… but u have been an inspiration and teacher. I love when I get compliments on my lawn… thanks for your vids!
I was in the same boat my front yard was just not good, small steps helped throwing fert and watering did do some magic for year one . Last fall I did a renovation and was so impressed by the outcome, it was hard work but the lawn looks so awesome right now.
Ryan, it's funny watching the timeline in the video and realizing how long I have been following you & Kelsey. It's also nice to see how you have evolved in your lawn practices.
Love the videos! I just recently bought a new home and the previous owner didn’t really care for the lawn so these videos give me some great insight on what to do for my own lawn
Love it. I don't plan on doing a complete renovation at my current property, so it's awesome to see what the result of just fertilizing, watering, and getting high quality seed down can be!
Thank you so much Ryan! I transformed my side and front yard in the last 17 months when I bought my house! I did a 3k seeding project and it’s amazing getting your 80/20 KBG and rye mix and I get so many comment about the way looks after I did my lawn! my lawn was just infested with weeds to now looking incredible! I’m so fortunate that you shared your knowledge and thank you again for the elite varieties of grass, I can’t wait to transform my 2500 sq foot back and side yard this fall! I can’t thank you enough
Love the transformation. It took about 4!years but you finally got your neighbor to clean up his crap. I have the same issue, I’m told by my other neighbors my grass looks like carpet and I’m flattered, my neighbor has a weed infested lot. Maybe that makes mine look better too. 😂 Thank you for all you do!
Just had a memory photo pop up this morning of doing my complete renovation of my back yard 2 years ago on this day. I used information learned from yours and Connors videos to get me going. Thanks for all the shared knowledge.
It's like those guys who are huge from working out so much but still think they're small... you're that with your lawn. Looks great to everyone but you
What a transformation! Been watching your vids for years now and once I finally got a house with a yard, I instantly knew I wanted to reel mow. Grabbed a manual reel mower right away and now a year later, just ordered my first battery powered reel mower. Can’t wait to start using it!
Just subscribed. Been helping my parents since they are older with their house. Your tips and progress motivate me. And you have an awesome lawn!!! Keep up the good work.
Excellent video showing your lawns transformation! I’m surprised you never did a full Reno in the front. I wish I had video of my lawn before all the work I did. Thanks to your inspiration and guidance I have the lawn I’ve always wanted!
I have a 3rd of an acre that been destroyed by a total home renovation, great to know you can get great results without tearing it all out! Thanks Ryan!!
I came to your videos on RU-vid because I needed a dethatcher. 3 years later I am fully immersed in lawn care! I blew up a portion of my my backyard and have been adding to my front yard one season at time! You’re right, patience is hard, but it pays off with the final product!!
It’s great to see your lawn transform over the years. Hard work pays off. Overseeding and care will get you to about 80%. Reno will get you to that 90%. I still need to do that step. Thanks for sharing Ryan!
Thank you, Ryan, for sharing your journey with us. You can't know this but you have helped so much with the information and tips you post. And your joyful outlook on lawn care has on many occasions inspired me to just get up and get out on the lawn when I really didn't feel like it! Thanks for all you give us, and peace to your family.
I’ve put irrigation last August and start over seeding and cover with peat moss. Did more over seeding this spring with fertilizer. Water every day, it is just looking great now.
Didn’t make the comment cut off but my best result was my mom telling me that her neighbor said their yard has never look so good. I told my dad about overseeing last year and he tried it. They weren’t so impressed the first year but happy now. Thanks Ryan. Making my dad happy is all I need.
Ryan hi I emailed you brother. A big thank you to Kujo and of course RyanKnorr LawnCare for the give away. I won a give away from The neighbor Dominator last yr and know you . I’m honored to have been picked.. The shoes will be of great use. Thanks so much 🙏BMA
Thanks. I really appreciated this relatively short history and overview. It helped to keep everything in perspective when down in the weeds working on weekly improvements.
I wish I could have half the results you have had! I’ve been trying to grow grass for over 20 years with very little success. From grubs and moles and voles to weeds and everything in between. I have irrigation, tested soil, amended soil, thatched and over-seeded and hydro seeded. Nothing seems to work for me. I do enjoy watching your success, I’m just jealous!
It's nice to see the breakdown over the years. I have a lot to do on my yard. I live in Utah so the summers are very hard on grass. I hope to someday get healthier grass going in my yard. Thanks for sharing!
Those shoes are really cool. West Des Moine Ia. It has been so much easier for me to improve my lawn I've learned so much following Ryan. No matter what I can't mess up cause we are in the same state, actually Ankeny is only about 15 miles away. Thank Ryan.
Ryan I’ve been watching your channel since the beginning of those first overseeds. I was buying our first house and trying to transform the lawn and I stumbled upon your channel, and my lawn plans pretty much followed exactly what you did. Mow tall, fertilize and over seed. My lawn looks great to this day a lot thanks to your videos. Excited to see what you do at your new place. Congrats on all your success. I’d love a pair of shoes BTW!
I'm in the middle of my first season really trying to get my lawn looking good. This vid just hamered home how important an overseed is going to be for me in the fall. Trying to get the weeds knocked back now.
What a difference in the overall appearance after doing some sand leveling. I need to build the courage to do it. I'm doing a 50/50 mix hand sifting little areas at a time. Maybe I will pull the trigger next spring. 👍🏻🔥
Hey Ryan, Big time lurker here. I'm what you call a lawn mom. I love my family being able to relax and enjoy our yard. I have put my heart and soul into it the last 2 years. It's kentucky 31 - we are in NJ. I know K31 is your (insert sarcasm here)..... favorite.. but it's working really well for us. I am on an every 6 weeks milorganite fertilizing schedule but we are mid cycle and I am noticing the grass is going lime green. I recently put down disease ex because we had a lot of rain and the yard wasn't drying out and I needed it last year about this time as well. Recently sprayed a tenacity application but we are recovering from that. I was planning on putting down some ironite - thoughts? I didn't want to put too much nitrogen down at this point in the season as we are seeing just a little bit of heat stress. Any better ideas? Thx! Keep up the content.
That’s awesome to see the progress. When I started watching your channel, I went back to see past videos. Never saw the home from the beginning. Amazing transformation and gives hope in my journey going forward. Excited to see what the future has for you! Go enjoy a keystone 👍
Great explaination of how long the process takes. I would call this my 3rd year but last year the 3 month hot spell and drought. We had 27 straight day one 98 deg and had many days over 105 deg. We went a month when watering you lawn was not allowed and I just about lost my entire lawn, it got so dry and thin in the front yard. So far I have the back yard doing well with a fertilizing and weed control and soil loosener. We had a poor spring so I dethatched but did not overseed. I plan to use a golf course compost cover with a plug aeration and overseed. Will probably sand level in spring with another overseed and a layer of peatmoss. I hoping to have a lush lawn by end of next year. My daughters house has a tough lawn and very hard soil, we used soil loosener which is amazing but a very expensive $90 in Canada. We spread some premium garden mix to add nutrients we also si a thatching. Another fall overseed in fall with plug aeration. Then we will get into leveling it . I told her it would be 3-4 years when she thought it would take one.
I’m not a northern kinda person when it comes to where I want to live but dang this 100 degree days down in georgia is making it hard to keep the grass going like I’m spring.
Hey Ryan, when you did your sand renovation did you wait until your grass grew up through the sand or did you have to do a seed/fertilizer application?
You make it all look so easy. The drought we had in my part of Minnesota killed large areas of my lawn with the intense heat we had. I got some overseed to come last fall , but still not close to what it was. And two more over seeds this spring were both washed away with 2 plus inch rainfall in about ten minutes. Now no rain and dry again. Zone three and have always used rye blue Grass mixes . So much hard soild from the drought, and can't afford an aerator. But I have over 1/2 an acre to mow. Feels like a battle I can't win. Any,suggestions on a seed that may, work better for me. Tried some fescue but it is thinner than I like.
Was thinking about doing a major renovation on my front yard. Love to way your yard looks, was thinking about rye grass as well. My front yard receives full sun from about 8am until 8 pm. Does rye grass handle well in full sun for that length of time? Thank you for your time
I am just happy my lawn is green most of the year. Does it need a full renovation? Absolutely. Not in the budget right now either. One of these days I'll get there.
learned a lot from your videos man, keep it up, any good advice for summer heat, i've heard that sometimes to much water is bad and could cause fungus. Im in the north east so there is a good amount of humidity
Ryan I followed your tips & ended up being partially disappointed. I thought I could drown the old grass with a thick top layer & reseed new grass. Problem was the well established wide blade fescue survived & pushed the KBG & Rye out of the way. I like the double Roundup application followed by a sod cutter. Let me Level & remove the ugly grass at the same time.
I love that you built your fan base simply working on your own lawn. That is impressive! I am your neighbor to the west, over in NE. We’re zone 5b. Do you think rye grass would work here too?
Ryan, I love this channel. I did a complete renovation on my lawn using your steps and I'm dominating my neighbors. I have a pair of those yard shoes and they are fantastic. Keep up the good work and I'm excited to see what you can do to the new house.
