How I tricked 6 Million People with a Fake Speedrun. 

My favorite part about this whole prank is that the community is just accepts they got pranked. No one’s like “no I knew it the whole time.” Well executed and well received

The extra flint collection being a mistake is so funny because it really feels like something Danny would do.

When I say I HAD NO CLUE… I literally thought, “Wow, Danny’s gotten so much better!” And never questioned it for a second. Great video, I’m the world’s fool.

Seeing the thought process from both ends makes this so much more impressive. I can't imagine being in either position. The funny thing is Danny got more KNOWLEGABLE as his video went on. He may not have gotten a ton better at the game, but he learned more and more about it, more than I do as a ~10 year Minecrafter

As someone who watched all of the practice streams and was entirely engrossed in the speed running community for like 2 years…. I am so embarrassed that I totally believed it. You guys did a great job and this was so fun to see play out :)

I first watched his video the other day and at first I totally thought the run was believable to be his. Then, I watched all of his streams where he practices speedrunning, and rewatched the run at the end. So many little things were dead giveaways. Danny keeps the extra blocks on the crafting table when crafting, you keep them selected on your mouse. Danny crafts armor from his iron, and never crafts shovels. You didn't craft any iron armor and crafted shovels twice (on this run and one other that you reset). Danny never grabs more wood or blocks, nor does he block clutch while jumping. You did both. You both did a fantastic job at acting , it really was just the small details that stuck out, and again, only after I obsessively watched all his practice! Anyway, this was such an awesome prank. I cannot get enough of this idea. As someone in your chat said "This collab was not on my 2023 bingo card" but I'm so, so glad it happened anyway! Y'all are amazing. Thanks for the superior content!!! ❤

This is so cool! As someone who watched all of Danny's streams, you had me completely fooled. I think a lot of his viewers are not real minecraft users so there's a lot of leeway for things you could've done that I would've just assumed Danny learned off stream. I did think he found the portal a little fast though lol

I happened upon the full uncut video of "Danny's" run a few days ago and genuinely didn't think twice about it lol. I just figured he'd been practicing for a few weeks and finally got a solid PB, you both sold it perfectly to an unsuspecting viewer!

Honestly, the way you were able to take in his play style and essentially “dumb” down your run really shows your prowess and knowledge of the game. It was fun following along on Danny’s journey. Finding out it was all a prank at the end made it that much better. Super awesome job, Couriway! This was a fun video to watch to get your perspective! Thanks!

As someone who doesn’t watch Danny’s streams except for highlights posted on RU-vid, I was impressed by how good Danny suddenly became. Especially the parts where he built the portal underwater so quickly, and where he jumped onto the one block surrounded by the lava underneath the end portal. I was shocked by those moves, but I still didn’t suspect a thing. This was such an entertaining shenanigan! Thanks for making this happen

Literally the movement and little things only speedrunners know when I watched it initially just made me think he was practicing like a lot. Looking back it was so obvious but the little messups that happened unintentionally and intentionally had me sold.

This is really cool. Even though there are limitations on your playing based off what techniques danny knows, i feel like it forces you to be creative and try things you normally wouldnt. Would love to see speedrun content where u give yourself some of these limitations

the most fascinating thing about this video is just how much you had to be aware of in order to sell this believably, and just how much I wasn't aware of the things you thought were glaring lol. like i think with the amount of time Danny spent practicing and the fact that he publicly showed you mentoring him, it was very easy to believe that it was a combination of him getting better and sheer luck. Like trying to find the home portal i was convinced was him being incredibly lucky, not something you'd intentionally remembered. i have to give extra props to you because you put in a lot of effort to make it look so believable! But i will say that out of everything you thought would give you away, the one thing that was actually suspicious is that Danny would never stand in the end portal like that lmao. I remember having my heart in my throat thinking he'd lost his mind placing one tiny block in the middle of the lava lol

I haven't watched this vid yet, but it was super cool seeing the uncut run! there were lots of small details that made it seem like the person wasn't that used to speedrunning and minecraft in general. it was funny seeing you almost never taking fall damage though

Honestly, this is art. Genuinely. You and Danny were working in sync so well and this is insane, especially when you hadn't had much practice. Improv/performance art this was insane live

But in reality Danny tricked you and he was playing and he was so good at hiding it he convinced you you were playing not him of course you should have expected this he is a man of trickery after all

Its crazy to me that you can see those structures underwater so easily, i am much more experienced then danny yet was so surprised how you seem to notice them immediately when they are barely even able to be seen

I watched all of Danny’s livestreams. I usually didn’t catch them live, but I caught the last few big ones, including the giant ending. I was so excited. I watched the video that Danny made when he came clean about it and my boyfriend laughed at me for the entire video because my jaw was on the floor. I had to pause at each revelation being like “I REMEMBER THAT” and “I CANT BELIEVE THIS WASNT REAL.” It was epic. I think I like being pranked. Overall I’m so glad I was there to experience it.

Aw this was such a wholesomely weird experience! Both of you did a great job pranking us. I will say though I hope Danny continues to practice speedrunning and get an actual run (without any goofy shenanigans this time!), tho I doubt he's ever gonna touch speedrunning minecraft again lmao. I was watching the stream live when it happened and I remember thinking "Wow danny's gotten so good at speedrunning now! i'm so proud of him for his improvements" not once did I think it might have been someone offscreen. In hindsight, the things you pointed out were obviously not things danny would do, but watching live it all happened so quickly that i never had any time to think about if something was weird or out of character. props to you for helping him successfully trick all of us gregs and kurtis

i remember joining one of the first few streams of danny playing minecraft (he immediately died to an iron golem) and I came to another one of his streams a few days later and he was making an underwater portal i was so confused

I was so impressed Danny found the portal in the nether I thought for sure the run was dead, looking back it makes sense lol

i never at any point suspected that someone else was playing for danny BUT the ONLY thing i caught that seemed weird to me was when they got to the portal room and “danny” jumped down onto a block in the lava in order to place the eyes i was like huh never seen that before but that was literally it. this was such a cool bts, it was so fun to get insight on all the little moves i didn’t notice during the stream!! thanks for participating and sharing this side of it all!!

As a Danny fan, I can't tell if I'm disappointed to have found out it was fake AFTER celebrating during the live stream, or if I feel incredibly proud that he duped us all. Also, big ups on you for being so knowledgable but not a know-it-all. Even when talking about how you know more than Dany about the runs/techniques/etc you never sound like you're talking down to him or anyone else. That's rare to see in and outside of MC, haha

I saw Danny's video a little while back but this didn't pop up in my recs until now. So cool to watch you break down what you did and why! And also the sneaky ways you communicated with each other. Excellent! The constraints of having to pretend to be someone else make this /so interesting/.

I’m a casual MC player so I didn’t watch any of the livestreams, just the main video and now this one. Since I’m a casual player I also don’t know how much of this works. It’s incredibly interesting hearing you explain everything and impressive how much you needed to adapt to Danny’s playing style.
