To avoid having a number of half-empty isobutane gas canisters in your storage bin after trips - or worse yet taking one out on a hike - you can use a handy little device that attaches 2 of them together with valves, in order to empty one out and refill the other. Like the FlipFuel or G-Works Gas Saver. Miranda‘s buddy Eric Hanson recently had a video with the creator of the FlipFuel explaining how that process works.
Thank you Miranda for your videos. I’m a full time single dad of a little girl that loves hiking and seeing a won a perspective of backpacking and hiking has really helped me make my daughter more comfortable on the trail
I hope you get to go backpacking with your mom. You inspired me to go out for the first time since the 1980’s and I had a wonderful time with my husband last week. I am now 67 and have been hiking a lot since moving to Colorado. I loved the experience camping. Sleeping on the ground was tolerable with a lot of your recommendations for gear. Keep up the videos. I enjoy watching you and your crew and your friends.
I actually just came back from a quick back packing trip and was going to wait til later to unpack, but then I was like no. So I unpacked, showered and decided to watch RU-vid and BAM! Unpacking video!! lol something to occupy me while my tent dry on the clothes line 😂
The more I see your custom pack and fanny pack, the more I want them too (or something similarly bright and fun). I hope you all had a wonderful weekend 💚 Ps. Please give Tucker (and Rainer) a pat on the head for me 😊
This was a great idea for a video! I think I need to compartmentalize my big sotrage bins like this. Brilliant! Y'all seem so happy since relocating. Loving the most recent vids! ❤️
I find that washing bladders and collapsible bottles can be a pain. Same with drying them. We typically store our bladders and cnoc bottles in the freezer after a hike. Empty of course. Keeps them out of the way, we don’t worry about mold, and it’s quick. At the end of the season they get a wash.
Hi Miranda! I discovered your channel recently and I love it! Would you please do a little overview and review of your various dry packs for your gear? I’m looking for alternatives to plastic and ziplock bags. I’m aiming for light and durable dry packs if you’ve got suggestions! Thanks 😊
Yeah that’s the plan as much as we can from now on. Love the lav mics but sometimes they can knock into something and rub and you get some audio chaos like happened in this video. I try to monitor audio and run camera at the same time but doing that inevitably you can miss something.
I’m looking in my spare bedroom with all my camping gear spread out over task tables from several months ago. 😮🙄 (checked, my steeping bag is floofed and every is clean and dry).
Tips for those in tick country - dry/air out all of your gear in a climate controlled room as soon as you get home. They’ll die in an air conditioned room with lower humidity - I think I read below 50° humidity for at least 24 hours, but I always leave my stuff for a couple days in my guest room before approaching again haha.
Ok a suggestion for a real time video, cleaning your “Mess Kit” (Cooking gear) at Camp. I’ve tossed this out too a couple content makers and only seen one give ideas on this subject. It was Chef Corso. But different folks have different ways. Chef basically boils up any leftovers in his pot and drinks it. To me not very good if yer on a long hike in the back country. Solid poop”ok”, liquid poop “ not ok”, hurling even worse. Not all the LMNT in Maryland fix that, and “Medevacs” are expensive.
Great storage area in your garage but, you must also not have a mouse issue. We live in the country where mice are an issue. Just food for thought for some folks. 🙂
I used to charge my things after, but then I noticed they would lose battery overtime and not be 100% charged the next time I needed. So, I had to switch to trust myself to remember before a trip instead 😅
how do you pack light ish when you have a bear can required? (sol duc/high divide trip coming up) I swear my bag is so over stuffed cause I cant pack like I normally do
Am I the only one who leaves everything in my garage when I first arrive home, and then unpacks/shakes everything outside in case of ticks? I also shake everything out at camp before I pack it up. And when I get home I shake out my clothes in my attached (lol) garage and check myself for ticks, followed by a shower and putting on fresh clothes. I guess I’m really paranoid about ticks.😅
I feel like you should also be washing the outside of your hand sanitizer bottle if it’s been flopping around with your other pissy items the whole time.
Hi Miranda. Love your vids and I am subbed. Just a thought....... 40 minutes is a long video as lots of people like me don't have a 40 minute attention span ha ha ha. KEN
I literally have no interest whatsoever in backpacking and the outdoors but I watch purely because Miranda has the best personality ever. It makes me smile
I used to hammock camp in new mexico when i lived there, shug taught me well (whoo buddy). Been a while. Now days not so much, but this really makes me want to go out and do it again in my sunset years! slower yes, but determined as hell!
@@destroystreets1023 I would love to try it. But unfortunately weather conditions in my country don’t always allow for it. It’s always so wet and rainy ..
Only Miranda makes unpacking fun 😂😂and Tucker is a love bug who steals the scene ❤❤I love where storage packs I have my stuff in ten different storage bins. Thx for the idea.
Tucker IS perfect, even if it is your show gosh darn. :) Also end of video thought - that was ~41 minutes with you talking us through it. I expect you could do it in half that time if you were just doing it and not explaining at the same time. A good reminder to us all that these sorts of maintenance things are important in the longrun and often faster than we think!
Idea for the garage: install a screw in eye at each end of the room and use a temporary clothes line to hang wet stuff. I do this for my 10 person tent. To make the line even faster to put up, use the style of clips for dog leashes.
... don't rely on memory for your packing ,,, make a gear list and leave on top of storage tote or gear shelf/wall ,, when unpacking , make note of gear to add or delete ... .. there are usually adjustments for conditions going to and expected weather ..
I’m a big fan of setting the tent up to air and dry. I’m just amazed at how fast a tent dries on a sunny or windy day! Plus, I can check for holes, tears, etc. I store my tents loose in a box, to decrease creasing.
I looove this channel!! I would love like a complete tour of every backpacking thing u have idk why I just love gear videos so much and All your organization makes me happy lmao
May I suggest hanging a clothesline in your garage with a carabiner or something so you can temporarily hang your tent/ bag to dry? It works a little better than a ladder. If you're in a hurry you can setup a fan also.
Due to watching your videos I’m realizing that Teva is pronounced Teh-va but I’ve been pronouncing it as Tee-va my whole life and I just can’t bring myself to change it.
Omg!!! Well unfortunately for them it’s gonna be Tee-va for me forever. I say as I’m literally wearing my Tevas and making friendship bracelets on my porch. Lol
Every time I hear you talk about lmnt I want to check it out so badly...but they don't ship to Svalbard and Norwegian import rules for supplements are super strict 😢
I wish I could be so organized! That's so briliant, and your garage is amazing! I live in a 3rd floor walk-up currently and when I come home from a trip now, instead of taking stuff down to the basement storage, I just stuff it in random bins somewhere. I have too much stuff! 😂 I hang my tent over the shower curtain too 😊
You dog Tucker looks my daughters Old Dog Ace, my dog is also named Tucker but he's a Chocolate Lab. I hate unpacking , usually it's because it means my trip is officially done. You are definitely more organized than me lol. Have a great week ahaead.
same actually,,,, except it rained on all my stuff.. and my bag is still in my car trunk.... and I'm going on a week long trip... and have no time to unpack... o boy
GIRL, I had NO idea you were soo organized!!!! I am vibing hard core with your mad organization I love it!!! Loved the real time video. Unpacking after any type of trip is super stressful and overwhelming, so it was really nice to see it real time!
@Miranda Goes Outside!! Hey! get you a Fuel Transfer Device By FlipFuel from garage grown gear. It transfers leftover fuel from one partially filled canister to another...so you can use up the canister fuel and not have a ton bottles left over.
I was thinking you'd have a heavy-duty clothes line for drying your gear in the garage since you have the space (and fans), not a better-than-nothing toss it on the step ladder solution and YOLO.
33:20 why not just pitch the tent for an hour or some other time? That’s definitely what I do, but that is only easy to do if you have a fully free-standing tent though.
