This is super helpful! I was bending over backwards trying to figure out which notes app to subscribe to while going back to school... I have learned that the apple notes app will do just fine.
I’ve watched a ton of tutorials and reviews about this topic and this is the single most helpful video so far. You’ve chosen the most useful topics and explained in a comprehensive manner. Good job. I Subscribed.
For some reason I can’t leave a regular comment so I will leave a reply on Kevin’s nice comment! This video was so helpful, Christopher! I’ve been using Apple Notes for so long and am SO excited to see they added linked notes. And the tip for a smart folder that contains any notes with checklists? Amazing hack!
I have a Notes/Reminders/Calanders task management system on my iPhone and iPad, but I really wish they integrated more. Like I should be able to put a reminder in a Note that shows up in my Reminders. And reminders should show up on my Calendar, or at least have the option to.
You can send a note to reminders and create a link between reminders and notes. Click share in the note -> make sure “send a copy” is selected -> share to reminders. Your new reminder will have a note icon and will open the note when clicked. Despite sending a copy, the link will show the latest version of your note.
Christopher - An excellent video. - - - However, 98% was about how Apple Notes works. I think your followers would appreciate a follow-on video that explains how you use it. For example: * How do you decide to make a new folder? Is it just a matter of the 'need of the moment" or do you have a pre-conceived design that you try to adhere to ? * Tags - You said you rarely use them. Why not? * Why do you put Notes about a project into a "project" folder? Your demo Apple Notes database had only 35 notes. Do you have another with hundreds /. thousands of notes? If yes, how do you structure that database. Thanks for considering.
Great video! I have been embracing Notes with the new updates. There's now a blockquote option, so you don't need to use monospace text. Also, Quick Notes can be added just by swiping with a finger on the iPad.
Thanks for this video! I've used Notes for ages and figured there lots of other features, but I don't know them. Now, at least, I have some ideas of what I might want to do with Notes! [I only found your channel a couple days ago. I'm considering going with just an iPad instead of the old 2014 MacBookPro, and your channel seems very iPad-themed!]
It really seems like Apple Notes has been improving over time, and that's something I've completely neglected in my search for a good note-taking app because I've thrown every random thought into Apple Notes to die because I hardly check it. With these changes, I really think it's time for me to give it a proper shot, so thank you for this or I'd never have known! The ability to link to other notes is what's making this extra viable considering how competitors also have such a function.
This is exaclty the same thing I thought. This video has inspired me to try the apple ecosystem out again for my productivity stack (calendars, notes, reminders, contacts(CRM))
Hey Chris, great video as always! Your points (the markdown and rtf) + (tables & formulas) had me thinking: isn’t it about time we had extensions for Notes? What extensions would you want to see if that was to ever happen?
Thanks for the video. What are the widgets that are using for your iPad? I see weather, calendar, tasks, market, shortcuts, etc. I am curious what the two are in the upper right corner? I am not familiar with these.
I really wish the notes app allowed handwriting to inhabit the same space as typed text. It’s weird that you can do it, but it segregates the typed and written text into separate sections of the note.
I just paid for Bear 2 because I noticed a lot of the features in there were not in Notes. Now I see that Notes really has come a long way. Maybe I won't even need to pay for Bear soon enough. The only thing that holds me back is getting a link to a note that I can drop into Things 3. And also more accessible sharing like Notion can publish to web.
I use a different work around. I share the note with myself and copy the link that it generates. I think there are other ways as well. I am going to try that shortcut option!
Hyperlinks and linking notes It's about time Apple added this feature. Having to do this through shortcuts was a pain. The one thing that I wish would be added is (markup) highlighting behind text. Apple needs to get rid of this paint/highlight crap. I prefer HTML over markdown but that's just me.
Hope Apple Notes, in the near future, provides markdown and slash command menu (like in notion). It will be great to also have something like a snippet expander to quickly insert current date or time, or regularly used templates.
It’s crazy that apple notes are extremely more intuitive and nicer/better than one Note… this video just made me question my notion.. i might just move over to this for my notes instead.
One thing I don't like about notion is that it takes a second to load the pages. I hate to see the loading icon. Opening a page should be seamless. But I love the toggle lists in notion which the apple notes lack.
I agree I’ve used notion for a while but using notes, reminders and calendar across all of my apple devices seems so much easier. Not sure what to do with notion once I’ve transferred everything 😭
I would love to move from Evernote to Apple Notes (have just shy of 8k notes), tried it once, but the sync is abysmal. Anyone else seeing the same thing or have a recommendation?
I have had a lot of issues importing from Evernote ENEX files. Some will import just fine and others will completely clog up iCloud and keep any Apple notes from syncing afterwards. I contacted Apple about it in June and spoke to many people including an engineer and they say it is on their list of fixes.
I have tried many note-taking apps. LIKE A LOT. but i always come back to apple notes and they have improved this app alot. So, I am just sticking to this app.
Hey Christopher! Hmm i really like Apple Notes but I've also fallen in love with Craft. I was wondering if you find yourself using the two apps at the same time and what would be your use cases? Or recommended use case for using both.
Is there a way to make a note that has multiple Check lists in it? Eg Main title is Packing list Then there is a checklist for Electronics, one for hygiene, one for exercise.
I want the opposite of what you want. I want to use the rich text controls without having to type markdown. But I want to be able to export and import markdown.
I love notes, I use it for personal use, employment use and university use. The only thing I wish it had that it doesn’t, and I don’t understand why, is when I type notes and want to go back and use the Apple Pencil to highlight something I can’t…I can only seem to highlight handwritten notes and not typed notes. This feature would really be great for me, as it is I find myself going back to good notes for school because I can highlight typed and written notes. If I’m missing something or someone knows how to do it I can full time apple notes
would love for notes just to get formatting esp colors that is more intuitive and toggle lists like notion. Once that's in that'll be 100% my school note taking app
It would be great if you could go slower or dedicate brief one on launchpad idea you use with hyperlinking of notes. It’s a great idea but it went too fast and not as in depth
just like you rearranged the folders to whatever order you wanted .. can you do the same thing with the notes in those folders? (arranging the notes in the order i want)
Excellent video. I did not know about typing the 2 greater than symbols. thanks for that. With the tables, I do like that you can touch the 3 dots in a table line or column and move them around. that's been helpful.
They now have the feature where you can type >> and then type the name of a nother note or make a new note to add links within a note. Although the notes linked together do not show backlinks as of October 2023, it is still an awesome feature.
when importing a large pdf file (200 MB) into the notes, notes became extremely slow and laggy, utterly unusable. i really tried to use apple notes and ended up using goodnotes
Honestly - what started as simply jotting literally a note - seems to now be practically a literal notes powerhouse. Sure, may be missing a few features others have, but the collaboration and the ability to link between other stock apps… wow wow wow!
Sorry but there is no productivity on this device. Forced myself to use 12.9 M1 Pro with Magic Keyboard for year and a half and this was the most challenging thing in my tech life hahahahaaha. Recently switched back go MBA Air 15 inch and I could not be more happier. Never again will go back to iPad as a laptop replacement...
