I may have gone a little overboard in using props for one of my gaming sessions, but they are still a great way to enhance your D&D game. Find out how I used both physical and digital props to build immersion in my gaming sessions.

Your meal idea with all of the great props is really fantastic. I'll have to remember that for a game I run sometime!

Thanks! It was a bunch of fun! I’ve found that thrift shops or even the dollar store are great for potential props.

I love the dinner party idea! I have always found props to be incredibly effective at enhancing immersion and I've always made them myself. Usually they are documents like letters, notices, "Wanted" posters, Certificates of Insanity (Call of Cthulhu is a GREAT game that never gets mentioned), and anything else that my adventure calls for. I have a huge collection of fonts and typefaces, various papers, and from my graphic design and fine art background am able to construct pretty much anything involving the written word or images. That's kind of the most fun part for me, honestly. And I LOVE making adventures that contain logic or reason puzzles. And riddles! OH! If you really want to cause stress, put a timer on a riddle! LOL Great fun! Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it. You've got me wanting to call all my old D&D buddies and see when we can get together again.

Thanks so much! It’s great that you’ve got the skills and resources to put together some really effective props for the players. I know that would be huge in a Call of Cthulhu game! I hope you’re able too to get together and play with your old crew soon…you’ve got some great ideas I know they will all love. Thanks for sharing…and for watching!

Love the crate delivery, I need to steal that! Like you and some of the other commenters, I like having printed letters or notes from NPCs, which can be aged, singed or blood-stained as required. Sealing wax adds a really nice touch, and it's cheap and easy to do. I've also been using one of Matthew Perkins' LMoP tweaks, which has the party in possession of a puzzle box. As a prop for this I would love to have gotten a real puzzle box, but instead used a big metal d6 which a metal-working friend gifted me. It literally adds heft to the game when the players can hold it in their hands 😁🎲

Love the puzzle box idea! I will have to incorporate that one soon. Thanks for sharing - and thanks for watching!

Love this idea and the suggestions you presented! FWIW, would love to hear a summary of the party as well. Thank you for sharing!

Glad you found it useful! For the most part, the party really centered around the game. Once everyone got settled in, we started the game. I put out some buffet-style appetizers, snacks, and drinks for everyone until we served the main meal during the game. I also had some glass potion bottles ready with 'health potion' cocktails for everyone. I used music throughout the session to help set the tone for each encounter/scene. Overall, the party was really about everyone having a great time playing D&D.

While my players are in a town I use a peg board as a message/quest board and print up little signs that are on there like wanted posters, lost and found things and jobs and misc. And I try to always print up anything like messages for the players , maps, and scrolls, I find it fun to use old time looking paper and have burnt edges, stains, and rips and tears to make the documents look a little more realistic? :D

Yes! This is great! I love the pegboard idea, and I am a big fan of the authentic looking paper. I haven’t done the quest board yet, but I’ve presented letters closed with sealing wax and a personal seal. Such a great way to bring everyone into the story. Thanks for sharing…and for watching!
