In this video I show how i use the DMC Bobbin Winder. I also give a review and my thoughts on it. It is a great little product that I recommend to any cross stitcher. Enjoy and thanks for watching!
Thanks for the demo of how to use this. I am a cardmaker but it's becoming more popular (2023) to add embroidery floss to handmade cards and I saw this item in a kit. I wondered how to use it, and now I know! Thanks again. Lori S in PA
Great video. I use this all the time. Much neater than winding by hand. One tip I will share is that you place the winder on the box at a cross member, so it is even more secure. That's what the other thinner openings are for on the bottom. 😎
+Shari Burkett Thank you! I find that the floss is neater on the bobbin when I use the winder. Thank you for the tip. I appreciate your comment. I know it helped me and it might help someone else as well. Thank you so much for watching!
I might give a winder a go then 🙂 I get it pretty neat but sometimes they're fatter than others, they're only a couple of quid so I might grab one next time Im in hobbycraft 🙂
I bought a bobbin threader and wanted to know how to use it . I came across your video and thanks soo much for demonstrating on how to use this device xx
When i ordered the storage box online, i received this with it. I was tickled pink when i figured out what it was for. LOVE IT now. Cant be without it.
I got my DMC bobbin winder from a friend who could no longer embroider. I had no idea how to use it, and she'd lost the screw for it. I used a birthday candle (same thickness!) and had a DMC spool holder so have something to hold it on. This video is great, and now I know how to use it!!! Thank you for a great video
I am so glad you enjoyed the video and was able to learn how to use the bobbin winder. It took me a little while to figure it out too. Once I did I decided to do video showing how it was used. I figured I wasn't the only one that was struggling with the bobbin winder. I'm glad the video helped you. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Sonja, i was directed to this link from a fb group and now I know what this is! I picked it up in an op/thrift shop here in New Zealand and no body I knew could work it out. It came with a bunch of floss bobbins and I have nearly used them up on a project I'll need more floss for. It's a 70s woollen child's chair. Looking forward to use this to finish my project and show my kids before selling to someone that probably enjoys embroidery if not another unique project, and will attach this link. Thanks again!
thanks so much for this - I'd been putting my floss on bobbins by hand and a dozen or so in i realised i was getting callouses and pain on my fingers already! This makes the process quicker and your explanation and trouble shooting tips were a huge help - thanks again!
if you rotate either the winder OR the box 180° (whichever way makes sense for your dominant hand to turn the handle) you can wedge it onto the box at one of the divider verticals and it will anchor better and not slide around on the side of the box. Thanks for the video! I had one of these from years ago and forgot how it worked :-D
Just got a set of these with 400 plastic bobbins and I LOVE it. Makes it goes so fast, because I just got into embroidery before Christmas so for Christmas I got 300 different skeins of threads and 6 cross stitch, and 8 embroidery kits. So it will definitely come in handy
First time using this product. The video was very helpful. I didn’t have anything I could attach it to so I placed between my knees. Worked great and was very quick. Thank you for the video.
+Beverly Evanger Thanks for your feedback on the bobbin winder. I want cross stitchers to have other feedback besides just mine because everyone has different experiences with the products they use. Thanks for watching1
Thank you. Very helpful for a newbie. I purchased a plasric box with the same winder and no instructions. Appreciate your time in sharing this. God bless.
I bought one today (without instructions) - was fairly certain the bobbin had to be 'screwed' on, just had no idea what the slit at the bottom was good for. 👀 Thanks for the demo!
I got one of those with a bunch of floss that I had bought in a box with the Bobbins and I had no idea how to work it. So I appreciate your level demonstration. It was very helpful
Very helpful. I bought it weeks ago and had no idea how to use it. I have a little down time right now. So, it is a good opportunity to get those skeins organized. BTW - I could not re-insert the screw. But it held tight without it. Thank you, again.
Thanks for doing this video. I was just given one of these, and wasn't quite sure what it was. I'm not much of a gadget person, so I'll probably just keep doing it by hand.
Hi! I just watched your video. Thanks for putting it up! I got my winder and bobbin box today. I just used an plastic bobbin in addition to the "wall" of the box, and the winder stuck firmly to the box :).
I've had that little tool (mine is pink) in my embroidery kit for SO long and never knew what it was for! HAHA! Now I'm over here winding bobbins like a mad woman, cackling!
Great demonstration. I have one of these but I personally find I like my thread very neat and I can't seem to get the thread to wind as neatly as I can do by hand so I don't use mine.
+halfstitch cross stitch Thank you! I appreciate your comment! Everyone has their own experiences with this product and I think it's good to let people hear what everyone has to say. Thanks for watching!
After I did the video a subscriber of mine told me to put the winder the way you said to do it and it works great. I will be adding more information to my description with this information. Thanks for bringing this to my attention as well. Thanks for watching!
Hi Sonya, I just purchased this bobbin winder the other day. I have not found a place where I can place the winder so it does not shift. My DMC box seems to be too thin and it does not hold steady. I think I may try and shim something in the slot to help hold it in place. It seems like the winder will make winding bobbins quicker. Thanks for the demo. You did a great job!
+Karen Miller I think the bobbin winder is a neat product. I have enjoyed using it. My DMC box was thin also. I came across the J. P. Coats box and it is much thicker. The shim is a great idea to hold the winder in place. Let me know how the shim works out! Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you for posting this! I was wondering whether this would be worth getting, but couldn't figure out how it works. I'm planning to divide thread and floss for about 20 girls so planned to use flat bobbins to save space
Just wondering why you need a particular thickness of box and don't place the winder where the dividers meet the rim, using the 'T' slot for extra stability?
Just bought this today and was like “how do I get this freaking screw off!” That stinker is so hard to take off! I used a 50% off coupon and bought it for $1.50! Love it!
Tx for video. Mine is sqeaky so I will have to try the veg oil. Also I had problems to with it not staying in place when winding the thread. So I put a couple layers of Scott tape on plastic organizer. It helped allot.
I use floss to make mini amigurumi. I just got a pack of boppins and the winder was included. I too had a hard time mounting the winder to keep it in place while winding. My box is a thinner plastic so it isn't staying in place.
+Karen Miller Thanks for the update! Using card stock is a great idea and the fact that it works and holds the winder in place is a plus. I'm glad it's working. Thanks for watching!
How to stop mine from squeaking? I usually wind in a room with another person and it squeaks rather loudly. I haven’t gotten a complaint but it’s already bugging me. Could I maybe like oil it or something?
I need to know where you got the storage box. Every plastic storage box I have I can not attach my bobbin winder to make it study or even have a t connection.
With respect, you’re attaching the bobbin winder in the wrong place! It has 2 slits in the bottom, they sit onto the right angle joint of the box thereby giving max stability.
+gullarstoya You should try the bobbin winder. I enjoy using it and it's small enough that it can be taken with you while you travel and it's easy to store. Thanks so much for watching!
