It's clear how wonderful a pergola can be during the warm spring and summer months, but I'd like to use my outdoor space year round. So today, I'm going to turn my summer pergola into a winter outdoor oasis with easy-to-install canvas siding, plastic and lights. But first, I'll need to reset and re-level some of the stone flooring. Join me for a full day of getting up, getting out, and getting active...with wonderful results.

Yes, Do it! You don't really need to send a lot to add protection to your furniture and/or give you a place to go and listen to the birds breifly if nothing else. However, next year the plastic (although it works) will be replaced with canvas because it's a good investment.

I used that same plastic from HD to make green house hoop covers over my raised garden beds. The sun did make it through so the veggies did grow in the winter and when I opened it up to check on them, warm air would come out. Your space will be warm and cozy this winter!

great idea. I have a new home and it faces an open farm field which gets a huge amount of wind. We are getting a pergola in the Spring so I would like to protect it. The canvas is exactly what I had in mind. Was it expensive for that? How did you attach it on the top portion? Also, Do you have a plastic cover on the top of the pergola for the rain and snow? I will look up the canvas info you have listed and I appreciate the video! Thank you!

That is awesome! I do a pergola video twice a year, in spring when I take the canvas walls down, and winter when I put them back up. Mainly because I do something different to my pergola. Or add something new. The top of my pergola is corrugated plastic roofing. You’ll be able to see that also in my latest video; Doing Last Minute Gardening Before It’s Too Late.

Hi Donna, my husband will assistance if I ask but usually leaves it up to me. But a big part of it is, he simply was raised different than I. I was raised to first figure out a way to diy whatever I tackled or needed to be fix to save money. My husband was raised to pay somebody else to do the job. So if I can’t build it or fix something, he is generous about paying for whatever I need - which includes any materials I need to do projects. So it’s a win win. 😄👍🫂♥️

How do you attach your tarps to your pergola? It appears that you are using bolts or screws? I have a metal pergola and would love to add heavy duty clear sides to it along with a small heater to use it while it’s snowing outside!
@jscursions
@jscursions 9 месяцев назад
Hi lisahuber5403, Thank you for watching. I have a few videos that go into more details as to how I install the plastic walls. As for the front and side canvas traps, I designed it with having santain ties sown along both sides so I use them to tie them down along each post. On the top I use hook screws to hook the top to the pergola. Again, I have more information showing what I use and how I hang the tarps, plastic or canvas. Hope this is of some help. I will also address these questions when I film enclosing my pergola soon.

Love your creativeness. I have a couple of questions though. Did I understand you correctly, you bought the canvas and clear vinyl from "Sunbrella and you had it custom sewn by the tent company Beckel Canvas Products? Also, I could not see how it was attached horizontally at the top of each section. I did hear you say that you purchased the custom panels "a few years ago," but could you share a ballpark figure of how much the two panels (including 1 with door/zipper) cost you? I realize now they will cost more but it will help me figure out what this project may cost now. I have a room out on my deck and would like to enclose it for the wind and snow we get in Wisconsin. You clearly have thought out of the box so to speak. If you could get back to me I would really appreciate it. Thank You in advance.
@jscursions
@jscursions 3 года назад
Hi Keepercreek, thank you for stopping by. The canvas is made out of Sunbrella material. I designed the whole thing and Beckel Canvas put it together for me per my precise measurements and design which included the plastic window , rib-bits, ties, and zipper. As for cost? It’s been a few years since I had it made so I can only estimate that it was roughly 300.00 to 500.00, days at that time. But regardless of the cost, it’s been worthwhile for me to have done it. And something I would recommend anyone to even if it was a DIY project. Keep me posted. Thank you so much for your support on my channel. ♥️🫂👍👏🏼😃

@@jscursions Thank you for the quick response. I have a 14' x 12' Deck with a tarp over its slanted rafters.. In the summer we have to keep the rain from sagging the middle and in the winter it is the same except for the bitterly cold wind that cuts in from the West and North - We are in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. So this is why your video caught my eye and started me also "thinking outside the box." Thank you so much for sharing. I believe we can make it work as soon as we put a tin roof on!

@@jscursions the ones that you used to attach the tarp to the pergola. You put it up so smoothly, but I didn't see what you used. Hooks?
@jscursions
@jscursions Месяц назад
I just used small gold hooks placing the grommets over the hooks. At the bottom of the trap facing the backyard I secured the tarp down by placing a tent hook through the grommet and sticking it in between the stones or nearby ground. this part isn't totally necessary. However, it did help with the underneath draft during the winter months. BTW, Welcome and thank you for watching and hopefully subscribing. Love and Hugs, J

@jscursions
@jscursions 2 года назад
Hi Frank Y. Thank you for stopping by. I really can’t recall the exact price because it’s been around 5 or 6 years ago. But I don’t believe it was more than 300.00 for both panels, at the time. But keep in mind that it was a custom order that I designed specifically for my pergola. I believe I documented the company information in the description area below my video. But the canvas walls are great and they have held up very well over the years. Good luck. 👍

Ho do you attach the tarp on your ceiling/ wood top??
@jscursions
@jscursions 8 месяцев назад
Hi BreeBriones, thank you for watching. The roof top of my pergola is covered with both corrugated metal and corrugated plastic, attached with rubber seal screws. The corrugated metal was place about a foot on either side of the chimney as protective messure in case embers were to escape and hit the rooftop. The rest of the roof is done in a light grey corrugated plastic. I went with light grey because it brings light into the pergola, provides some shade and also keeps it cooler during the hot summer months. If you choose to do a corrugated plastic roof-top on a pergola or building. I would highly suggest over lapping the corrugated panels by a minimum of 4 inches. I'm sure some would say that's not necessary - which is true. However, I didn't do that and every time we get a heavy rain fall with high winds the plastic lifts in certain areas where screws weren't put in and I get some water leaks. Just food for thought! 😀
