When people say "I'm on a budget. Can only afford to pick up a few ounces a month..." but don't constrain eating out/fast food or reduce the booze budget! That's when quantitative easing is suddenly applied!
Truly Zambian. Yup. I wanted more. So no more coffee and biscuit on the way to work. That's roughly 2-3 bucks a day. That's about an ounce a week more. If you want it bad enough you do it!
Thanks Shadow Stack I just learned a lot from you , great info you give us all. My girlfriend just left me so I can spend more money on coins now. She said honey aren't you going to take out the garbage , I said you take it out you cooked it. I was just joking geez.
I'm new to stacking and working on a pretty small budget. Not as small as you mentioned in your video, but still small. I can afford to put $100US into precious metals each week. Here's my strategy so far. I order online from Apmex or JM Bullion or one of the other reputable dealers that offer free shipping over $99. I'll pickup 1-2 higher premium/low mintage coins ($25-$30 ea), not proofs though (too high of a premium for me). I'll then pickup 2-3 ($18-$20 ea) of the 'random year' high mintage coins like eagles, Maple leafs, kangaroos, or Britannia (whichever is closest to spot at the time). If there is anything left in the budget I'll generally just grab $1 face value US '90% junk silver' rather than paying the premiums for fractional silver. Not sure how that strategy sounds, but it's what I've been doing for the last few months.
Excellent advice for resale of silver and gold. What I do to stack on a budget involves the luxery of having a local dealer who sells spending silver (constitutional in the US). I'll buy a silver quarter here and there and a dime there and here. Great video sir!
Bill Rundell silver dime bought 8oz.cold coke in 1955 2017 buys 12 oz cold coke not grampas money still money just needs conversion bough silver 4x face when lbj lied to us said clads would circulate w silver but there was a sucking sound.😎
Hey you, my friend Shadow Stack!!! Love this topic. I like your practical advice: Keep variety low; if you are on a budget, do not waste money in capsules; no high premium coins. I am definitely on a budget, thus I will continue to focus on my goals and follow your advice. Thanks my friend. Take care.
So many things that I have learned over the years of buying metals. If I could start over. .... I would have purchased only low premium silver. . mostly bars. All the capsules that I wasted money on... I would not have purchased.
*Stay away from variety at first...stay to one coin design (like the kangaroo coin) at least until about 50 oz; *Don't buy coin capsules if it didn't originally come that way; *build a coin foundation first before getting the fancy lunar or other collector coins; *switch month to month: 6 ounces of silver one month, then 1/20 or 1/10 oz of gold the next month; *don't buy junk silver (50%, 90%) or fractional silver
I just started stacking. Im in my 3rd week, I bought 1 silver round buffalo (SMI) week 1 and then a LET FREEDOM RING 1776-1976 Silver Trade Unit round in week 2 then my first ASE yesterday. Im going to focus on the ASE's. My budget is VERY limited and I had to learn to cut out the fast food and frivolous spending in order to be able to start stacking. Its my hope and plan to be able to pick up 6 ASE's online on payday then a single round or ASE half way through the pay period (every 2 weeks). Fingers crossed.
I am on a very low budget and am stacking for wealth storing reasons. As a British citizen I purchase 1oz silver Royal Mint coins and 1/10oz gold Royal Mint coins depending on earnings for the month. I do this because Royal Mint bullion coins are CapitalGainsTax free and so when the time comes to sell up I won't be hit by another tax bill. Silver in the UK has a VAT so I prefer to buy gold (no VAT) whenever possible. I occasionally buy a premium coin that I really like the look of to keep things interesting. Those 2019 1oz silver Valiants are gorgeous and I couldn't help myself.
When I first started collecting/stacking, I'd watch for weekly specials on sites like JM Bullion and Provident Metals. They put out new specials every Monday. Occasionally, they'll run a special like 2016 Kangaroos $x.xx over spot any quantity. Usually you have to buy greater numbers to recognize a lower price per coin but specials like that allow you to pick up a handful and still get a great price.
I really like the recommendation to stay away from premiums when on a smaller budget. I am in this camp. I set myself a goal of 100oz of low cost generic and govt mint silver before I delved into any semi-numismatics. My personal ratio ended up with 90% low cost silver and 10% "fun" purchases in the realm of poured silver and high prem coins.
I get paid every 2 weeks, get as much OT as i want , between 5-20hrs a week, i set aside 75-100$ per week and twice a mnth order so i get free shipping , half gold half silver , i like 1gram-2.5gram gold bars - 1/10th oz coins, and silver i get 1-10oz bars or coins as long as its .999 and IRA eligable. The smaller coins and bars will be easier to barter with than 1oz gold or 10oz bars of silver. As soon as my car is paid off i will put the same amnt of dollars into pm to pay for my daughters college & car , i fig that would protect against inflation or economic disaster. I live in Texas so we are not taxed for gold or silver , platinum or paladium since its currency. I feel sorry for you guys , the tax on pm over there is robbery. Thanks for the vid.
I would recommend taking advantage of JM Bullion's 10 oz silver @ spot starter pack. It's the generic 1 oz Sunshine Mint silver rounds, but at spot + free shipping you can't go wrong.
Subscribed. I've been buying 10+ one or five ounce bars every month over the last few months, just as a way to save money on the side; since leaving it sitting in a savings account does absolutely nothing.
Moroccan Stacker: I've also heard that some pool there resources and order greater qualities in order to get the lowest price. Takes trust, but I'm sure the savings aren't insignificant.
+Moroccan Stacker Saving your money would be the best option to get bang for your buck, but some people are already bad at saving and also believe silver will explode tomorrow, so spending the money as they get it is their only option.
Shadow Stack yes bro i do understand that. In that case LCS would be the best option, otherwise you lose 1 ounce on shipping everytime. If you are in the US then that shouldn't be a problem, because all you need to do is spend more then 100$ to get free shipping.
i have only 36 ounces of bullion coins, dozens of %90 silver old denominations(dimes, quarters, half dollars, and silver dollars ) a few dozen %40 silver half dollars and about 6 world silver coins from various countries.
Gun Noob don’t buy gold until you can buy enough to offset the premiums. I’d save up and buy on dips or welcome packs... but if you have to have eagles I’d save up for the tube.
Even before the premiums hit the silver market. I have never had a problem selling any kind of bullion coins or 90% coins on eBay. Selling back to the dealer isn't the way I go. Yes you have to wait a week and yes you need a PayPal. But trust me don't short yourself guys
If you are on a low budget, krugerrands are the LOWEST premium per troy ounce bullion. In that predicament you won't be that worried about CGT, trust me. CGT is on PROFIT above £12+k. That's over 20 ounces of five years movement and the last five years were MASSIVE movement. If you have 20 ounces, you aren't on a low budget
you are the first stacker i have seen on you tube from the uk and vat on silver keep up the good work as i am a low budget and i tend to by 10th of a ounce gold to miss the tax man but now i will look into bying silver from eu thank you shadow
Great video. I'm just considering getting back into PMs after many years and this is exactly what i wanted to find. Thanks for this video.....even if it was from years ago.
For some odd reason, in the USA, we can buy 4 nines maples with a $5 CN face value cheaper in most cases than 3 nines eagles with 1$ US face value. No brainer to me.
Depends what your goals are. At 9999 Silver maples are nice and shiny, however, consider that they milk spot, and the other materials in Eagles may make them more durable. Also, having an Eagle only have a face value of a dollar, may actually be advantageous if you want to leave the country, as you will only be taxed on 1/5th the amount. Oh, yeah, and Eagles are recognized just about anywhere. Maples, not quite as much.
In general, If I had a tight budget I wouldn't touch precious metals as it's too likely you will have an emergency and need to sell it all anyway. I think you should only buy with money you know you will (most likely) never have to touch
I had to sell all my pm before, it was life and death , i still regret it but i made money so it could of beem worse. I recently started stacking again, my wife and i just had our first kid and i want to be prepaired for a rainy day or disaster. I think that im going to save my daughters college tuition with pm's.
Nice video. I'm not on a budget, but I did buy five 1 oz. Britannia at spot + about $3.50 (USD), however with taxes + shipping, cost was over $20 a coin, so I can appreciate how challenging this is for the small investor.
As much as I love gold and silver...here is an interesting fact...Gold and silver stackers who traded in some of their stack for Bitcoin in 2012 or 2013 have seen a 750 X increase in their wealth or purchasing power. That means $1333 of gold or silver traded in for Bitcoin is now worth $1,000,000. That's a cool MILL!
People say if your in UK buy from Europe as it's more beneficial but adding up the shipping to UK and possibly customs tax it doesn't work out any better to just buying from UK websites. Atleast delivery is free. Unless there's other websites I'm unaware of.
Really like your points and thought processes. The basis of my stack starts at constitutional silver and then I build from there. I want to start buying ASE's and then round series that I really like like the Four Horsemen series. Thanks for sharing brother!!
SilverMountain that is what I always do. I buy what I like and go from there, however I believe after the series is complete it will have a profit margin. If you are able to provide a full set after the series is completed I think there will be a buyer. Now, the profit margin will be slight but it will be there.
I like the idea of your foundation pieces for stack building. Sometimes you can find other govt issue 1 oz coins at a discount relative to your own govt issue. Some of the commenters have mentioned Canadian Maple leafs vs ASE prices in the USA. I would also prefer fractional govt issue silver to generics for budget purposes. I picked up a few pre 1964 Washington quarters for $2.97 USD each with free shipping today. These will come out to spot or just below spot if you factor the actual postage of mailing these coins. $3 USD is not going to break the bank and you get something tangible with value. I have spent $3 USD for a cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee so I am storing some wealth this way. I don't want to just buy govt issue fractional silver but sometimes these little budget deals are too good to pass up.
@@shadowstack3608 I saw some attractive prices for 2018 and 2019 Silver Krugerrands from the online dealers like JMBullion and Provident Metals a week ago so I ordered a few. I still want to pick up 2019 ASEs but the premiums aren't as cost effective at the moment.
Save for a few months and then go to a couple LCS and get their prices and buy whatever is cheapest after saving up a couple hundred dollars. Some days it's rounds, some days it's bars, some days it's junk. Allows some diversity for the stack too which helps scratch the itch of wanting those "already in the mint capsule" coins.
Definitely understand, I used to do the same because I got the feeling I was missing out and it was going back to $50 the next day. Great discussion topic. I feel like its part of the journey as people mature as stackers. I think a lot of us have a coin in the collection that we look at now and wonder what the heck we were thinking when we purchased it lol. keep up the good work dude!
Started buying the odd coin about 18month ago , fortunately got the 2oz QB Lion and have each following issue in that series. Also have all Marvel Comic that began with Spiderman, Landmarks that began with BigBen, plus others that I believe may be worth having long term like 2017 Krugerrand, Indian Trade Dollar, IOM Angel and Noble have 2 each this years. Various Pert Mint issues too all 2018. Have built up 40 oz in a little over 8 months generally buy them cos I love the coin, but also for a long term investment and I'll keep adding as and when I can, not in it for a quick return, but believe silver is way undervalued and with it's high usage in industry it WILL become scarce, simply has to improve in value through basic supply and demand
It's almost a year after the making of this video and I'm a new stacker. I'm stacking for weight so lately I find myself buying Silver Towne, Rounds and bars. I can find deals from Silver Towne as low as 5 1oz rounds or bars for $84 to $87 with free shipping. I'm stacking for economical hardships when silver prices rises no matter what it is, silver eagle or buffalo round. I'm not selling until then. At the moment I'm purchasing at the rate of $200-$300 a week and silver is my bread and butter.
Hi there, my current stacking strategy is to get get as close to spot as possible and stack for weight while not bothering about numismatic value, I'm currently buying as many old half crowns, florins ect pre 1920 British coins that are worn and eventually plan to melt them into .925 bars, what's your opinion as I'm pretty new to this and currently have around 20 Oz's worth of old sterling coins.
+Chris Georgiou That seems very costly and power consuming. Stacking a cheap .9999 coin like the roo could work out better. But whatever works best for you is most important
Place an order with a trusted friend and fellow stacker to share postage cost as this is high if you are only ordering a few coins from Europe. Look out for special offers on the generic rounds, and as you say avoid high premium, novelty and quirky coins.
Best options... sell your entire stack, silver isn't blowing up until early mid 2018. Then use funds and invest in bitconnect or LNK. Grow your wealth bud
Title should be "Flipping on a budget" because it sounds like this guy wants to sell and make profit, not just hold long term. So yeah if you want to make money then buy a roll of whatever, wait 4 years and then sell each one, one at a time to someone who just wants that one. Obviously if you try to sell ten different coins in one lot to someone who has the money to buy tubes of gold at a time from the dealer he's not going to be interested. But if he's stacking long term as a hedge against inflation then there's nothing wrong with getting a different type as long as its very close to spot or he knows for sure that the collector value will rise. The guy bought one queen's beast and is allready trying to flip it for profit he obviously needs to have a better plan and figure out what his goals are. Maybe flipping is not a good idea for him just yet and he should hold on and learn more. But he doesn't have to always buy the same thing, thats too boring for some people.
I buy Kangaroos. they are more affordable for me. As for storage I just use my Foodsaver and vacuum pack them. No problems there. I do have some collectables, but they are presents for my grandchildren to encourage them to save.
Fantastic video! Really informative! Quick Question... If you’re buying silver VAT free and only have the choice of 1oz rounds, 500 Gram and 1 Kilo bars and you have £2250 to spend, how would you go about it...
I do stack on a budget. I agree junk is not the best. I like to get the imperfect coins from my lcs for $2 +spot. However I do llget some junk if they don't have some I like. I like to save for occasional bulk purchases too.
Do you recommend the Kangaroo over the ASE even though I live in the US? Love all your videos, I like your style as well. I stack what I enjoy, but I also want half my stack to be liquid. I try to balance & build!
Shadow Stack Thank you for the reply. I wouldnt mind to add some roos for a little variety, but I always pick up on the deal of course. Not long ago was able to get BU Libertads for $18us couldn't turn it down. Yeah I was wondering about the bars but im assuming they are equal to a generic bar.
I can afford one bullion a month for stacking. I’m mostly collecting. So I plan to save and buy every 5 months or with my collection coins to get free shipping. I’m on a super low budget.
@@shadowstack3608 , I just purchased a package deal of - 8 (1 gram) gold Canadian maple leaf coins, in a sale from Providence metals for $374. I always enjoys the Brothers channel. Thank You
Great clip I'm a beginner also. Not sure where the low budget threshold is but I'm looking to invest between 300-500 a month. Wanted to ask how and what should I be looking to buy? Any help would be great. I'm currently at 24oz of 925 I smelted into .9999 myself. Thanks!!
+Rebecca Stegenga With that budget i would mix it up, its spots is high get 1/4 oz gold and a few silver ounces eagle's or what you may like, and on a low spot more silver ounces and a 1/10 gold eagle. You can always double up and go for a ounce of gold every 2 months.
I am intersted. However, while I have undwrstood all the rest, I cannt decipher the very name of Coin You we’re recommending as the sweet spot... was it some (descriptor) Kangaroo?
Hi Shadow stack ... really appreciate all your videos. Just a quick question. I am a complete newbie and want to get into silver stacking. Do you need to store your standard bullion 1oz coins in coin capsules? What would you recommend? I want to get more OZs for my money rather than spending lots on capsule but I don't know if thats a mistake. Id like to protect my coins and have been searching for alternative storage methods but I am a little lost. Your help would be much appreciated. Keep up the good work.
Shadow Stack I sure wish I would have known to send my coins back to the dealer and not a coin shop , I had to sell 2 rolls of American Eagles dated 2000 , 2001, plus a roll of 1921 Morgan plus 6 proof American Eagles , I did get $14 hundred , so I dont know if that was good enough or not. I paid $199 a roll for those silver dollars back in 1998.
maritimezhang of course. I always believed in health is wealth. What’s the point of having all this money if your not healthy to enjoy it? if you don’t take care I your health now, you will spend the rest of your life spending money to take care of your health.
personally i don't think its worth buying from eu dealers unless you buy 9ozs min. More you buy more it saves on postage. So maybe buying every 2 or 3 months be better. You make some good points. I personally buy the cheapest semi numismatics coins i can find to buy in bulk like kooks or koalas only a roll at at a time and some other coins that meet my selective criteria. But i do have the time to sell on secondary market and that has helped my stack grow and help me buy gold with the profits. I do have alot of 1/20 oz and all was bought cheaper than current coins from dealers. But if i did I'd buy 1/10 oz min due to the lower premium plus no vat so i guess its a better play in uk if you buy cheapest gold coin you can find. At some point i will buy generic silver did buy a tube of 2oz turtles and flipped them as my strategy changed and developed and thought that other things work better for me at the moment. I sort of was in between low budget and medium when i started and i got a plan a complex one but i did have around a grand to start with I'll hopefully do a stack vid soon as i wanna do an audit see what prices some stuff selling for and put a value on it all. Just an oz count don't reflect its true value or potential. Great vid dude stacking the easy way. ...anyone can do for sure..
Where are you from bro? i'm from Spain and i don't have any local shop here to buy coin or bars..If i want to buy i have to go webs from Germany to actually buy something with a reasonable price.Do you think is worth to me buying stuff even if i have to spent like 30€ or more in shipping and stuff?
+rox dude Ideally saving a little more for a order of 10 coins minimum would be better but many people have problems with saving and want things the second they have available funds, ive been there, a 6 coin budget is tight but if you want some quality and quantity alot of thinking and stratigity is needed.
Shadow Stack burning a whole in there pockets guess you could buy used coins from Atkinsons not bought from them but they do nix and match works out about same as buying from eu. Do same with gold as well.
I've got 4500 American $ for gold ingot or? but want to see if AU comes down more. Should I just buy a 💯 gram now, or should I wait to see if prices come down more. Now at 1292 American. going upward.
