In this video I lay out my process for writing scripts for my RU-vid videos, including where I like to write, using my iPad Pro and the iA Writer app, structuring the message I want to put across, and some thoughts on the importance of feeding your mind to keep the flow of creativity going, and how I deliver a piece to camera.

I've got to say, I really think you've filled a gap in the market. You really are one of the only people on RU-vid I've found that is truly genuine about the information they're providing. You don't act superior in any way to anyone else, and even though many many people idolize you, you make it clear that we are all taking the same journey, it's only the path we take that makes us different. You're probably the only RU-vidr I've ever come across that can just speak for 20 minutes and I want to hear every word. That's because you're genuine, you have no agenda, you just seem to want to share your experience with the world. You also create content at an easily digestible pace. The fact that you post monthly instead of daily is incredibly respectable because it means you're willing to take time to create valuable content. You're not just in it for the views. Please keep doing what you're doing, your words somehow bring a sense of relief to the world. Your honesty is admirable.

I think the channels that have a scripted format are the channels that offer the most information, just think every video essentially you're writing an essay with a introduction statement, a proposal for your thesis + the body and rebuttals it's truly a work of beauty! I script most of my videos but Sean you've inspired me so much today man. You're a blessing, thank you.

Sean: So timely. I just went out to make a video this morning and was frustrated with my inability to speak. Having been a teacher for 15 years I’m still surprised how awkward I feel talking to a camera. Thanks again, I feel like you hear my questions sometimes. Funny how the universe works. Very lucky to have you here, you’re the chef that just gave away the secret recipe for the betterment of the craft. That’s how I know you’ll be successful. You did a big thing here. Thanks again Sean!

Dear Sean: I always learn so much with you. Now I am astonished for the honesty of your comments and the will of sharing your secrets and creative process. I ussually leave myseilf time to evolve and mature ideas, and despite the fact that I can look pretty much as a sleeping pasive giant golem, through this kind of message I understand that I am still learning, in a less evident and exterior way. And the metafore about "ruminate", though not very delicious, it´s extremely precise.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I am in the process of trying to get a channel started. I've made a few videos that I've thrown out but learned from. You gave some great tips, and most importantly, after watching your video, I feel less nervous about the process. I'm more excited and less hesitant. I had planned to end the videos the same way with an encouragement to anyone who has watched the video, but I love the idea of wording it "May you..." That is such a sweet way to end the videos and hopefully truly encourage others. Thank you so much brother. You have made an impact on at least one person, but I would guess quite a few others.

The benediction... the way you describe its use is the most brilliant that I've seen in a long time. For the day job, I do a podcast every two weeks. I'm glad to say that my method is not too far off of yours for script development. But I've always felt lacking in my closings. Your method of "benediction" has really given me something to develop in my own way. Thank you for that. Now that you've talked about it, I can now see one of the big reasons that your videos resonate with me so well, that benediction. You create incredibly engaging content, then wrap it up in a way that makes me feel good about what I've just watched and motivates me to go out and apply what you've taught.

Sean a great video and as someone who has recently retired from spending my life in talking to people I recognise that you impart wisdom with clarity and artistry . That is education. Like most bloggers you have complete control of your output and scripting means that subconsciously or even consciously you vet or even perhaps censor output and leave certain things unsaid. True conversation is the only way to bring this out

I've watched this video 4 times in the last 2 weeks. I've been looking for a way to express my message that suits me. Most RU-vidrs... Hook 3-6 seconds, intro 4-7 seconds, script, call to action, outro 4-7 seconds, end screen 4-20 seconds! This approach resonates with me. Especially the idea of a Benediction. I'm giving advice to small business owners, we have it pretty tough so a moment to let them know I want them to succeed... Well, it's something I would have liked when I was starting out! I have a hunch I'll be back to this exact video several times as I'm developing my style. Thank you :)

Hey Dylan, I wonder if you were to just go with it as it is instead of going for perfection? Theres a RU-vid channel where a deaf man provides some of the best GoPro content out there hands down (@MicBergsma) and he has a speech impediment from being deaf. But his content is great, it's well produced, and he does the best he can on speaking (having help from time to time or showing text on the screen). Last I checked he was almost at 450,000 subscribers. We all have our strengths and our weaknesses. It can be a vulnerable thing to expose ones weaknesses, but that honesty will resonate with viewers. And for some you would be an inspiration with how you deal with your weakness that they too have. Have a great day, I'm checking out your channel :-)

Sean, you are a very unique and special individual and we are all very fortunate to have your share your talents with us. Now I can see why I enjoy your videos so much. I would add that another thing you do with your videos is that you are thoughtful about your aesthetic vernacular - your visual interfacing in it's totality after the shots, the grading, and the typeface is all combined. I think this is just as key as the writing. It all has purpose and that comes across. It grants you a tremendous amount of trust from your audience - that their time with you is well spent, and that you are a credible human being.

I think one of the things I appreciate most about your style / output is that you have that ability to actually inspire people to try to be better. I'be got a photography background from a young age, and the RU-vid side of things is newer to me. There's a million people out there who can give on-the-nose technique advice [Click this, then that]. It's a lot harder to have the ability to compel people to *be better,* and I appreciate that. Thanks for the work.

Agree with all the positive reviews here. I can feel that you are honest and don't have desire to sell something or hide the knowledge you have and try to hook people for some costly courses as some other people do. And your videos really show how hard you work on them. I was searching for how to write a script for my videos. Couldn't find satisfying answer anywhere else other than this video. Yes, when you memorize a script it turns out to be dry with no feelings. If you don't write the script down then you will stumble and miss the points you were thinking about. Thank you Sean!

Hello Sean I am just starting my youtube channel. Glad i found your video. It has given me a pretty good idea. And i am also cannot directly turn on the camera and start speaking without the well thought out script. The structure of video comprising question, body and conclusion is pretty logical. I must say your videos have a very inspirational tone not just about photography but also life. Thank you.
