Disney probably made the stained glass a harlequin pattern in the lancet windows to avoid depicting a religious preference. Also, it's likely cheaper (labor-wise) to repeat the harlequin pattern.

I think it might mainly be a need to do a more simple design at the back of the drawing. There's already soooo much detail on The background that Eywind Earle (the artist on sleeping beauty) painted by himself. And the space might be so little to paint something too elaborate. Also, there's already a lot of blue and red in the rest of the picture so he changed the colour to create more contrast
@jennywithaglock3916
@jennywithaglock3916 6 месяцев назад
there'd be far too much contrast and very dense lines in the windows if they were actual stained glass windows, and not the suggestion of them. but backgrounds are painted once, so usually they spare no expense. i'd wager it's an aesthetic choice to have a simple, and muted design for their stained glass, to not have them be busy/distracting

I didn't realise how accurately baroque the library was except for the fire place. The level of attention to detail is amazing 😍

Surely it would of had a fireplace though, otherwise the books would get damp and you wouldn't want to spend time in there. The few manor houses I got to visit in the uk and the castle in Sweden I've been to, all had fireplaces in their libraries. It seems so odd to say that you wouldn't have them in the library.
@calebarsenault382
@calebarsenault382 9 месяцев назад
@@neralizashe said it wouldn't be in that part of the library, not that it wouldn't be there at all. Most likely it would be on a wall with no books or a wall with more stone to protect the books

A humble suggestion to AD - Rather than just comparing the fantasy with Real life, architects should also construct an Image out of it, of how it would look like in real-life in a whole picture.

The Cinderella staircase really reminds me of the garden staircase of the castle Chantilly, in terms of proportions and decorative elements

Cinderella, Beauty and The Beast, are not much inspired in medieval times like the others, they’re much more 18th and 19th century, and palaces of these times do have grand staircases.

Not a Disney movie (even if they will be a debate on the comments) but I'd really like to see a video about the background on *Anastasia* To me the artstyle of the movie was always the most recognisable sign that it wasn't a Disney. Because unlike Disney movie, the background of Anastasia were more realistic and accurate and full of détails. Disney movies were more synthetised with a much more rounded shapes and more saturated colours. They put more emphasis on fantasy than realism.

sorry, but spiral staircaises are standard issue in royal libraries of the 17th-19th centuries. they help you acess the mezzanine rooms and floors where the lionsshare of the collections are kept, withouth covering the shelves and maximising storage in the mezzanine itself. also in northern europe, libraries did actually have plenty of fireplaces. it was the only way of stopping frost and water damage during the cold winters.

The beauty and the beast library is VERY clearly inspired by the "joanina" library in the University of coimbra in Portugal. The columns in the movie are literal copies.

There are a lot of great staircases in European palaces, like the one in the Royal Palace of Caserta or the Würzburg Residenz. The Library in Beauty and the Beast have more in common with the one in the University of Coimbra.

Such an educative and amazing video, let me just reference that in the Beauty and the Beast library, the neoclassical tapered columns, were actually inspired in one of the libraries you don't mention in the video eheh if you search "Biblioteca Joanina" in Coimbra, Portugal, built in 18th century, the columns are exactly the same - that's where they got inspired!

The Cinderella staircase, and most other staircases in Disney movies, is inspired by the Imperial Staircase of which indeed Palais Garnier is a 19th century example but have been known since the 16th century (the coudenberg palace and El Cortico come to mind, but even more so for the Disney movies the Grand Double staircase in the "Grand Palais" in Paris which is a art nouveau neo gothic masterpiece has been used as inspiration and you can really see the likeness in some movies. Another inspiration were the staircases, both inside and out, of the Palais de Justice in Brussels which is a 19th century showroom to model our of this world staircases. I believe 80% of that building is a staircase 😂

I’m thinking about the staircase in Tara that was a character unto itself in the film. I believe it had a transcendent effect on the importance of a stairway in the American psyche to sell the idea of wealth and splendor, as well as to point out a moment of occasion in a story.

Sleeping beauty: I'm sorry, but how it can be inaccurate, when all those castles have been used by people for centuries after they were built up?! The descendants of the original owners lived there, so there's nothing special about living in a medieval castle in the 14th century!
