Not necessarily if it implies a strengthening of two theocratic and autocratic regimes that repress their own population with iron hand. Qatar is not an exception in regard to the circumstances of workers from poor countries, and I don't think you will forget why people in Iran are protesting right now. And may also mean for Yemen that it will now be jointly screwed over by both, Iran and Saudi Arabia. It means a stronger alignment of the autocratic regimes. Just that. It is also a sign of good will from China, surely trying to de-escalate tensions with the USA. Which may be a good thing.

At the end of the day, China relies on the Western markets. Thinking about it: It could also be very bad news for Russia. Iran may be forced to stop or reduce weapons exports to Russia at China's behest and both Iran and SA may want to increase their oil and gas exports to China in detriment to Russian exports... or at least a reduction in the tension in the zone may have an impact in reducing the price of oil and gas, which would just kill Russian exports if they fall beyond the cost of extraction. The world and reality are complex and many faceted, it is thus an error to see things from a limited point of view.

But no one can deny that recently China is the only expansionistic super power who is seemingly trying to avoid conflict instead of stimulating it. This is probably because they have calculated that without military intervention (something the US still dominates at the moment) China will in time outperform the US economically and gain an upper hand in that regard.. In my opinion this is far better than the alternative the US has represented which is all out conflict in an attempt to ensure US supremacy. I would praise the US if it brokered dialogue that would lead to less violence, not more. Frankly I do not trust any nation with global domination as an ambition but the best chance I can see for a status quo that is conducive to prosperity is one in which the west and east keep each other in check. I'm sick and tired of the hypocrisy that allows the US to declare wars of aggression without UN ratifications while we condemn Russia for doing it.. It is wrong in both cases.. So I welcome this deescaltion from the the Chinese and I hope the US abandons this strategy of the use of force to influence others and adopts a similar strategy.
