I think the best way to describe the Sonic series, in the context of this video at least, is with a box of chocolates. Whether it's the same chocolate three times in a row, or it's a completely new one each time, you never know what you're going to get.
Adding onto this allegory, sometime you'll get ordinary chocolates (Most 5/10 games), a couple with different flavors and sweets (Generations, All original StH games etc) or rarely the ones made left in the garbage (Sonic 06 and Sonic Boom games)
Im just gonna not sugarcoat this because everyone is very blinded by this: the franchise has been all over the place because of what the fans are asking for is all over the place. and if you say other, please PLEASE look at the past games where everyone shitted on unleashed and the past other games. Its a miracle that the series is still going after 33 years of backlash.
The reason why sonic is on other platforms is because the sega dreamcast flopped, the moveset is “inconsistent” because they want to add something new to the moveset to make the game feel different, just imagine how it would be just to jump only? It wouldn’t be a sonic game, it would be an average platformer, the voice changes are pretty inconsistent but it’s bound to happen, it happened with other video game characters, although the writing does get inconsistent. I’m just clearing things up I’m not trying to start a fight.
Finally, a Sonic RU-vid video that doesn't pull the "Sonic is (only?) for kids" card. Seriously, most other youtubers making Sonic video essays can't go one single video without pulling that card.
Ironically, this video itself seems to be at least slightly inconsistent. The tone of your voice _(__1:45__ for example)_ and the topic of the first inconsistency seem to imply that the video is sarcastic _(like, I can see how console consistency can be a good thing, but it just seems like a very nitpicky thing to start with)._ Inconsistency Two feels even more intentionally nitpicky. Of course the movesets would be different across the years! Variety is a spice of life. But then the point about voice actors feels like a genuine and justified complaint, what with the "Roger makes Sonic sound too old and his tone of voice is wildly different across games". Same with the following points ("2010s were childish even though Sonic used to be for everyone", "the goofy tone of Forces doesn't fit with its war motif", etc). I even somewhat agree with the seemingly nitpicky point about Chip's bracelet. So which one is it, PancakeForsake? Is this supposed to be a humorous, sarcastic video or a genuine critique spiced up with a pinch of jokes? :)
Haha, oh the irony. I wouldn't say I'm nitpicking but more of just pointing out the inconsistencies whether they be good or bad, and some jokes here and there as to not make the video too boring.
I mean...not all of those inconsistencies are necessarily bad... Except the writing but don't think about it too much it's just the way it is. Look at sonic unleashed's inconsistent gameplay of day and night stages people love that game Look at sonic frontiers' gameplay you either running around, playing ikaruga lol etc...it has an inconsistent gameplay but people still love it So some of his inconsistencies aren't necessarily bad. The consistency sonic series needs the most is the writing and stick to one formula and a consistent gameplay style(even though I doubt it..cause this hedgehog is always changing cause he has 2 formulas that is boost formula and adventure formula that made his games good in the first place he doesn't have one formula gameplay he has multiple so if they just use the open-zone formula but gameplay is inconsistent honestly..I would be fine with it.) About the platform releases....nobody cares
@@purrfectisepic you know...if they stick with the open-zone while have different formulas in the games then there will be some consistency due to the open-zone being used over and over hell they are doing it with shadow generations as we speak!
3:51 It's pretty funny considering that the french voice actor for Sonic in this game (along with some other games and tv shows released before and after Sonic Boom Wii U) is also the current french voice of Spyro
It's the sonic cycle: they release a very expiremental game that people like, they expand on it in the sequel that people also love, they do something questionable for the third game that peolle feel indifferent about, and then they fuck it up for the last 2-4 games. Cycle repeats
I appreciate the mention of knuckles's not being a guardian for the longest time until frontiers again. A lot of people tend to ignore that part, especially since they acknowledge tails being inconsistent in the same game but they didn't even bother with trying to acknowledge knuckles' inconsistency lol(Cause its so bad). Here are a some more inconsistencies: - The moon magically fixing itself after SA2 - Shadow in Sonic Battle remembering gerald and the ark, even though it technically came before Shadow 05 so he shouldn't remember anything yet. - Amy's speed and strength in different games(it goes up and down) - Blaze being from the future in 06 but being from an alternate dimension in Rush(and no, her disappearing at the end of silver's story does NOT explain why. It makes ZERO sense. It was completely a biproduct of Sonic 06 and Sonic rush being developed around the same time and miscommunication.). - Eggman Nega going from alternate dimension eggman to eggman's future descendant in Sonic Rivals - Amy's being an entirely different character in frontiers just going unexplained - Sonic Prime being canon - and to a lesser extent Sonic IDW being canon
Hey, this is a pretty good 8:37 minute video you got here. It would truly be a shame if someone were to subscribe.... Seriously though [[insert topic of video here as a lot of comments do because they can't think of anything else of quality to say]]
As a long time sonic fan... Yeah that thecks out. Im trying to make a timeline video and just trying to make sense of the canon was enough for me to want to take a break from it and work on a what if crossover idea with one piece because at least then I can look at a timeline that actually has to be consistent to be successful.
All the characters each had a new VA and the reason why is because that Netflix show was being developed in Canada. They couldn't choose the current official English VAs for the roles in Prime becouse those people live in America, so they needed to switch to Canadian VAs for that TV series.
in the comics they explain the wisps are in forces because they volunteered to help and wait in deployment capsules too bad that's never once mentioned ingame
Ah yeah I didn’t read the comics before hand, Sega’s solution to messing up information in the games is to just explain it in the comics. Which is dumb
Not as inconsistent as the 2D games that's for sure lmao the 3D titles have almost always been incredible consistent up until Colors which objectivly ruined the series by removing the dark convoluted stories, the excellent writing and hard to master but easily to play gameplay for automation until Frontiers saved ths franchise by returning to a extend to the actual fundamentals of the 2000's era that made Sonic popular and beloved.
