Installed rear glass yesterday with help from my Brother and Brother-In -Law. Put tire lube inside the rubber channel and a water Dawn combo in a spray bottle on the metal of the car glass frame. I don't think they even had to press down on the glass. I started the #14 stranded wire on the bottom and it did not take very much effort to pull the wire out and get a great seal. This has been a worry for me on how to get some one to install the glass, so Thank You for showing everyone how easy it is to do.
I've heard of this method for glass install but you showed it being done and now I know what to expect when I'm doing mine.... Should be done with it in the next hour....wish me luck.
You whole channel is very much appreciated. I watch all your videos. This video is gonna be a huge help when I go to put the glass on my 63. (sometime this week)
Thanks for a great video, I was trying to figure what glue to use but after watching this video don't think I need it for my 63 Polara. Come to think about it I don't remember seeing any glue residue on the window frame after removing the glass. Thanks again
One recommendation would be to start the rope on the bottom. This job went well but many times starting at the top is a battle as the weight of the glass can work against you. The gasket appears to be new which is great. However If you are using a used gasket which does not bite the pinch weld securely I suggest beginning on the bottom. Nice work!
Awesome tutorial, I'm getting ready to install my glass on my 64 and I was going to pay a glass company to do it for me but after watching this I'm going to do it myself. Is there any chance you can do a tutorial on how to install the door handle and trunk mechanism with all the rods. My painter removed mine and I'm struggling to figure out how to install them again. Thank you once again for a great video.
Good. Dont pay anyone. Its really easy. As far as trunk...the latch should just screw into the deck lid....door handle ive never removed the door handle mechanisms before.
Great video bro! I’m about to put the front glass on a 64 convertible. I don’t remember any clips under the windshield when they took it out, are those only for the hardtop models? If I’m not mistaken the lower trim pieces have clips that just screw in right? Thanks!
Yes the lower trim clips screw into the cowl, and slide back and forth in the trim itself. On conv I'm not 100% sure. But I think the header molding up top bolts in place and the side moldings screw in the door jam. The clips are used to hold trim in place, not hold glass in place. So you are probably right
@lonestar lows thank you for the videos. I’m putting my 64 back together and you are the go to for what I can’t figure out or never done.. like the glass install. Awesome job
@Lonestar lows it would be awesome if you could do a detailed install video on the rear quarter glass. I think my painter took part of the channel out, I pc that bolts in. Can't find any information on how it's oriented in the body of the car, and I have every manual available for the 63 impala
This is a great video that actually shows you installing the rear glass! Do you have a video showing you removing the trim molding on the rear glass, as well as the best tool you have found that works best? I have not found a video showing anyone removing the trim around the rear window. Thanks!
Firsts off I'd like to say your cars came out really nice. I'm in the process of restoring a 64 impala ss convertible. I was wondering is there clips that go along the top front windshield that would hold the big chrome molding.? thank you.
Did this on a 64 VW. However the first time I broke the windshield! What I found out is that you have to buy good Rubber Seals. My first try they were kinda hard? Old? Then I just went to a forum and ask what was the best....Soooo..What brand are you using?? Have a leaky front window on my 65 El Camino. Basically the same as this Impala? Was going to use the Butyl Squishy seal. But I did have good luck with the Rubber. I would think it would also be a lot more Uniform with the trim.
I have a 1964 Impala in Iowa and the gasket is shot. Hoping this will help me. I'm very new to working on cars but I can't find anyone willing to take on the job out here so I guess its DIY. Any recommendations for a shop to purchase the gasket? Do you like one brand more than others? Thanks!!
Going to do a little research after this comment (did some beforehand but no luck) but would this be possible for a older model vehicle that doesn't originally come with a gasket? My 76 El Camino just has the windshield "glued" (for lack of better term) to the frame and has trim around the windshield (2 pieces of trim missing, but the part that leaks is under the trim of course 😂)
I love the videos keep them coming I have a quick question do you have or can you make a video on how to remove the stainless around the windows, the tools in the tricks?
Thank you for such an awesome video!! I was thinking I needed to call a glass man but damn, you made it look easy. One question though Sir: how much of an overlap is there with the two ends of the string inside the rubber seal? I hope I'm making sense??? One hell of a build BTW.
Good deal. I overlapped like 18 inches or so just incase the string slips. Which if it does its not end of world. The glass can be pushed out and the rubber reset and start over
Man that was a good video and it looks simple too do!!! Thanks for the video keep them coming!!! I did have a question as far as that dash filler where can you get them and what would it be called??? Also on his firewall did he buy an insert if not what screws holes did he keep??? I just got mine on a rotisserie this week building the frame soon
lonestar lows ill have to double check cause i cant recall. Meant on the screw holes on the firewall did he just keep the booster holes windshield one and the ones to mount fender??? Did he get a pre fabricated one like you did from last minute???
What’s up @lonestar lows, I have a 1962 convertible & I’m trying to remove all the front windshield trim. Would you happen to know how to remove it? You make some great content, thanks for taking the time to do these videos.
lonestar lows I figured it out, last person who “restored it” added silicone so it wasn’t coming up but figured it out & luckily didn’t damage trim. Thanks for getting back to me.
gonna do my '61 bubble top wind shield in this weekend i see one in the back ground i got a few videos of mine nice work did you do the head liner first i did
I need to install a rear window on my '66 Barracuda. My brother has the window. I already pulled out all the glass chunks, as the window had been smashed before I bought the car. I also went inside the molding with a wire brush. There's still a slight bit of gummy residue inside the molding, but it's mostly clean. Do I need to clean it out 100% with a solvent, or is it good to go onto the window as it is?
I need a lil guidance I’m about ready to install my front windshield on my 63 Chevy impala I have already place to top molding clips, what clips go on the bottom of the windshield n on the side can u???
Another well described, informative video from Lone star. You guys work good together. Your buddy must be happy as hell !!! Quality job.....done in timely fashion. Keep up the good work!
@@JamesSmith-oe1ot thanks james. Im takimg it to him tomorrow..going to miss it but the 61 has room now. Going to document hours and beers on the build...
Nice work man!! Love the car. How would you recommend removing the stainless? I’m researching as much as possible to know what’s all clips vs screwed on? But would you just pull off the pieces that have clips by hand? Or what methods did you use? Thanks in advance. Cars looks perfect man 🙌🏼
