Here's a discussion on how Internet Protocol (IP) works. After watching this video you should have a better understanding of how IP addresses, subnet masks, routers and routing tables, and other aspects of networking work.
A great book for learning IP networking in more detail:

This is very thorough. One small improvement is when talking about IP networks is call the network a ‘logical network’. The word network is used so often and in so many situations, any way to improve understanding is welcomed. Great video.

22:59 Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. To date 27 years after I started my job, somebody has finally explained Net Mask in an understandable, and repeatable way. Now I get it. 👍

Very concise, Doug. Really logical presentation and the principles and illustrations used are very well done. You can tell the level of knowledge you have on this subject just by the simple way you've managed to take a complex subject and explained it for the rest of us.

You are hands down my favorite. I am an AVT freelancer, video editor, technical director, and more. Your solutions are easy to understand, but actually have enough depth to allow us fellow professionals to grow from beginner stages to advanced concepts.

I have read much on this subject -- nothing comes close to your logical and yes simple explanation. For the first time I can say I understand it.

One clarification, ARP is used to map an IP address to a physical MAC address. The device already knows the receiver of the data which is the destination IP address.

I can remember once upon a time before most people even heard about the world wide web, I had to type in the ip address to access the site I wanted to go to. Yes, I'm getting old.

@djp_video

@@BkSrinuVizag Install a second Ethernet adapter (this could be a USB device, or an internal PCIe card in a desktop computer) and connect it to your Dante network. Then from within Dante Controller or Dante Virtual Soundcard, select this new adapter as the default for Dante.
