Not even that, as I understand it, most fishing agreements come from a time far before the EU, some even from the 15th century. Why? Because fish never really cared for imagenary line in the sea xD
@Erushbass fishing is an industry that has a networth of 0.1% of GBs GDP, leaving the EU gives a Net LOSS of 2.5% till the end of the year, congratulations, fish control gives you a profit of -45.000.000.000$ hope those billions are worth it
The man in this video does not have any problems sourcing food from local farmers it seems, and yet who is picking them if most farms haven't moved to mechanised workflow I wonder?
They gave an economic, business, legal decision to be made by people who spend their lives drinking and gossiping in pubs and others who keep watching soap, reality tv celebrities. What do you expect?
@Leroy Jenkins v3.0 True. The "expat" mentality is a hangover from a wider British exceptionalism, and reflects an arrogance unsupported by political and social events of recent years. (Speaking as an English emigrant myself).
@@shellminator in this day and age you can be whatever you want to be...if you prefer to be called an expat that is fine with me ! I don't expect you to understand that as you are not a buisnessman or even have a head for business let us say.
I am in London and supermarkets are empty. Super basic stuffs, like water, broccoli, apples and many more, are constantly in low supply. And this is just the beginning.
Never mind, you can top up the British Market shelves with the 40% that you can't export to the EU and we'll only have half filled shelves instead of nearly empty shelves.
Reason for a dislike is background music. I hear everything but unfortunately understand nothing with noise in background. music is noise to those wearing hearing aids. Hear everything understand nothing. If you want support sound quality.is just as important as visual. I sign off now as I do NOT understand a word you are saying.
There are captions to this video (proper ones, not just autogenerated). And even the autogenerated kind are often good enough. Just trying to help here, not making a point.
Love how producers are sending all the veggies to "Norther Ireland" instead of France. They must be eating like 100x more vegetables that before the Brexit. Curious.
And it’s not only food, thousands of U.K. online retailers sold into the EU 27 countries, now with the VAT, handling fees and delays it’s almost all over.
As in English speaker living in Europe, and an avid reader, I bought books online. Now with VAT and delays, you don't know what you're going to be charged, so I hope to find some bookshops in Europe who sell English books. And as an aside, postage on books from America has gone astronomical, like £18 to £20 for one book, that itself may have cost £5!!
I don't see why not? Supply and demand through getting the cheapest. The UK food regulations have yet not been lowered so this food is good enough for the EU. Maybe the good thing about Brexit is that Farmers have to invest into mechanised farming and stop relying on human hands to pick the food for a pittance. When in EU you are not allowed to go under its standards but are free to go over.
Mechanised Farming is expensive. I don’t think that small an mid sized farms are not able to switch. So they might give up business. And still today there are fruits and vegetables which cannot be harvested by machines. They rely on workers.
UK had a £27 billion pounds trade surplus with Ireland before Brexshit. In other words Ireland bought £27 billion pounds than Ireland sold to U K. That trade surplus has disappeared.
In May our good exports to the EU we’re back to prepandemic May 2019 levels. EU imports haven’t caught up yet, and now our total goods trade deficit with the EU has halved from £8b/month to £4b.
Alexandra Bohn. Well here, at least is one commenter not simply blaming Brexit for problems of workdwide origin. It's like a breath of fresh air. Thanks Alexandra.
Grow stuff which can be mechanically harvested. The potential winners from this are the companies which can design and build machinery which can harvest crops which are currently harvested by hand.
Interesting - but had to bale out after a couple of minutes because of the music. Missing a good proportion of the key words people were saying because of the sound interference. And my hearing is pretty good, so I expect many people will have had it worse. Just do some basic research into your audience. It's not an issue of taste about the music. It's about knowing what proportion of your intended audience are likely to have difficulty with this kind of mixed sound track. If you feel you need the music then separate it in time from the people speakng. If the place you are recording is itself unavoidably noisy (not the case in this instance) you can tackle that by putting subtitles on screen for that segment. Think about your audience!
Gao Bizi. Yes, I voted for Brexit and have no regrets about that. The EU is sore because it has lost the cash flow from Britain. They shouldn't have abused our membership the way they did. It's pointless trying to blame Brexit for shortages which the rest of the world suffers as well. I'm a Brexiteer and proud of it and a darn sight more cheerful than most of those making comments here.
Plenty where we shop, what it needs is the work shy from home to be made pick it, perhaps specially adapted walking sticks with nippers on the end and a grab
Brexit negative: Financial services (UK used to do a lot of financials for the EU,billions lost), fishing industry, agriculture ,hospitality ,freight transport air and land ,ETC ... any business that was based on low wages all destroyed.Future big corporate investments from counties like China or America are now gone too not to mention the small business suporty from EU is now GONE. Brexit positive: Boris will handle the money instead of the EU :) and Fish thank you for Brexit.
U K trade surplus with Republic of Ireland was 27 billion pounds. This trade surplus has now been eliminated. Worse, the now U K trade deficit with the Republic of Ireland is Growing. In other words G B Exports to Republic of Ireland are dropping month on month. Only winner is Ireland. Cross Border trade is booming in. both directions.
The evidence indicates it's going considerably better than expected, and the UK is actually doing rather well. And, as this video shows, the predicted catastrophe for food supplies hasn't happened. Did you even watch the video?
I am glad to hear that after brexit everything is working out. Finally nhs is getting infused with that extra 350mil a week. I hope all other industries are getting as much attention. But judging at how much air are being spouted out by any brexiteer i don't see a reason why it shouldn't be. Of course brits can now put their favorite crop picking gloves on and pick their crops as well. A sea of benefits.
@Leroy Jenkins v3.0 lost freedom of movement in Europe. 100% under the thumb of Sovereign Etonian rule. The unique feature of the EU Member States all remain sovereign and independent states,. They pool some of their 'sovereignty' in areas where it makes sense to work together and mutually benefit from like trade protection of environment
Pointless comment, Spain is still in the EU and is this true more people are vaccinated in Spain? Also COVID-19 and Brexit are separate issues so why put the 2 together?
This isn't suffering, this is inconvenience. Without Brexit the UK was heading inexorably toward a 100 million people in a few decades. We have 20,000 people from the tiny island of East Timor just living around Oxford who all came in with Portuguese passports. Two thirds of the Somali refugees let into the Netherlands decided to move to the UK. It just wasn't sustainable.
@@catinthehat906 well, this is great for the UK. The empire, where all brits were living in, does not exist anymore, but the world diversity does at your own door. Great!!! Furthermore, you Will now need them to drive yout lorries and pick your fruits. Double great!!!
@@manuelgarciabarbero1872 Neither East Timor and Somalia were ever part of the British Empire so that line of your argument is rubbish. The employment rate of Somali men in the UK is around 15% the lowest of any ethnic group so that doesn't stand up either.
@@catinthehat906 you are right. Almost the only two places on earth that did not enjoyed the great British imperial experience. Perhaps the do not work because nobody wants them
@@manuelgarciabarbero1872 I think you will find British colonialism was not really different from the Spanish (particularly with the Inquisition) or Portuguese and certainly more benign than the Belgian.
No you import because you want cheap food for big profit margins and are not concerned about Global warming buy local and stop sending fish to the EU for processing that's not going green
Sod the chefs, times coming when we All will be desperate for food. Restaurants will be a thing of the past apart from the elites. Start checking out foraging because that’s all that will be available for us cannon fodder.
It makes me sad when I see a video attracting so many moaning minnies in the comments. Pull yourselves together you lot. The real reasons for these supply problems are the final breakdown of world supply methods which were simply unsustainable, coupled with the 'just in time' policies of many large retailers. Then there was the shifting of heavy freight from rail to road, madness I recognised in the 1960s as soon as it was stsrted. I'm surprised that folly lasted so long. Cheer up for Pete's sake and stop blaming Brexit for the constant infantile attemps of the EU to undermine Britain. There are food shortages all over the world and it isn't confined to Britain. I fully support Brexit and I'm glad I do and voted accordingly. Britain is a great country of world renown and I'm glad to be British and had the sense to vote for its withdrawal from the EU which was never any good to us. I face the same shortages as everybody else and you won't hear me moaning.
Yes, you're absolutely right! I always said that the United Kingdom of Great Delusion & Northern Ire is the greatest country in Britain! I don't doubt for a second it will have a bright finale. You're a cool boomer! PS: If things go out of hands, "please help me" is "bitte hilf mir" in German. Don't bother with French.
Nah... just project fear. Have to check worldwide for new market lads... building customer base in Nepal and Argentina instead of bad controlling nearby EU
I'm sure the average Argentinian with an income of 500$ a month cant wait to buy premium food airlifted in from the UK. If there was just an easy way to sell your food hassle free to your rich next-door neighbour where everyone agreed on some basic rules, that would have been great.
you know the further a product is transported the higher the cost right? nepal to uk 4532 miles, argentina to uk 7378 miles, estonia to uk 1915 miles, uk to bulgaria 2065 miles...the last two being the furthest away eu countries and how much produce do we get from those two countries? most of it comes from a lot closer than that. when are you going to wake up?
@@steveosborne2297 how have we punished scotland? I remember the last time they wanted out; they wanted to keep the British pound - which quite reasonably is impractical
Actually, there's no food shortage. It's only a matter of changing your eating habits. Besides, how do you think speculators think when they can eye a maximum earning by creating a so called food shortage. So there will be less Italian prociutto di Parma, less Spanish, French, Italian or whatever EU wines to chose from ! No Brit is gonna die if these disappear or increase in price. The UK must adapt and produce better, more affordable food. Russia did exactly that. They've seen an increase of quality food, like cheeses, milk products, vegetables and meat. I'm no English but I wonder how this brexit is effecting people. It's not the end of the world. Yes BJ and other politicians mislead the voters. But done is done. Get over it.
I can see all the Brexit benefits are lining up nicely :-) We've gone from "we will prosper mightily" to "we won't die - we'll just have to pay more for our food".
Do you understand the difference between an opinion and a fact? That greengrocer had lost ALL exports to Ireland since January. That wasn't his opinion. It's a fact.
