Yamaha is an excellent company in every respect. The Pacifica is often overlooked and shouldn't be. I have two Yamaha acoustic guitars, and they arr money.
So deserved. The Pacifica guitar has supplied countless players with a guitar on a professional level for an amateur price. Now we need to recognise the craftmanship of Yamaha and celebrate the Pacifica.
We all know and appriciate the japanese craftmanship. The Pacifica (with this wonderful name that rivals the Stratocaster name) comes in so many variations that everybody can enjoy them and find what they need in them. @@JonIsJustTooLoud
I think a lot of people who are saying "Why would I pay that much for a Pacifica?" forget that the Pacifica was initially a super high end line of guitars back when they came out. This is just taking the Pacifica back to where it should be, and if the original high end models are anything to go by will be worth every penny.
"High End"? we sold them for $599 in '91 at Bizzarre Guitar in Phoenix. They were considered a cheap alternative to a Strat... nothing special. They came with a Seymour Duncan '59 and SSL-1's big deal. They're still nothing special and y'all are delusional thinking these things are worth anywhere near the $1,100 and $1,900 they're extorting for these things. Same with ESP demanding $1,699 for the new Indonesian made LTD George Lynch Desert Eagle... equipped with a cheap Korean Floyd Rose 1000. Absolutely ridiculous. This price gouging by these companies is nothing short of criminal.
@@scottdunn2178 check those pacifica 12 series models.. especially the 1221...those were super high end and were in production only during 90s. Extremely high end i am sure the person above is talking about those models
AMEN. I own a 721 and a 521 .the 721 is 1 pc alder body..maple neck on Rosewood compound radius neck.Japanese Takeuchi Floyd Rose trs101 trem system. Yamahas all access neck joint .Dimarzio pickups HSH Incredible guitar ...AND it wasn't even the highest end ones the 921 same guitar basically but ash 1221 ,1421..and many variations of Super strat style awesome instruments ..the neck is before Ibanez wizard thin. WARMOTH YAMAHA GUITARS are worth every penny and more
Getting a great reception! "The resultant tone is uncanny......these are among the best guitars I've ever played...serious Suhr and Tom Anderson vibes." ~Michael Astley-Brown (editor of GuitarWorld trying them at NAMM)
Yamaha guitars are seriously underrated! I dunno if it because Yamaha manufacture so much different stuff, it's their marketing, or it's because people in general immediately just associate the name with outboards, bikes or classic synths like the DX7? I just remember that back in the day, the Pacifica was the first affordable guitar range that was actually really good!
They are well regarded for their acoustic pianos. I have been playing a Yamaha dreadnaught for decades. I recently thought I wanted a Taylor grand auditorium. I went in to the store and A/B the Taylor with a Yamaha of the same style. I was in there for over an hour, back and forth. The Yamaha won.
@@MrPhotonjockey Their Digital Pianos seem pretty great as well. I bought a used Yamaha DGX-640 from a local classified last year for £60, and the weighted, graded hammer keybed feels absolutely fantastic.
Very cool you got a hold of one of these newbies already ! Saw them at NAMM...brand new models. Even the new standard is very nice ! Love that the amazing Rupert Neve has gotten into pickup design. He makes my absolute favorite mixing console and one I learned on in the 70's when I was studying audio engineering. Nice demo once again dear Jonathan.
Although Rupert is dead :-(. There's a Yamaha video that goes into the back story. Apparently a Neve employee liked to make pickups and some ended up in Yamaha's hands...
What a beautiful guitar Jon and a lovely rich, clear tone on all the pickups. The splits get nice and twangy. You can see it’s really well made. Yamaha can be so underrated when it comes to guitar making but I have had nothing but great experiences over the years, even with their budget range. Wonderful intro too - cheers Jon 😃😃😃👍👍👍❤️
I got the Indonesian RevStar Standard and it's amazing so I'll probably buy the Pacifica Standard. It's hard to bump up to the Pro when the Standard Revstar is so absolutely fantastic.
i have 18 electric guitars..Fender , Gretsch, Epiphone, jet, Harley Benton and Yamaha...I cant use them at the same time. so going to sell them all..and buy one guitar that i will pick up every day, this PACP12 will be my only daily guitar to play and take in motorhome for summer nights...BUT can NOT sell my Yam Pac012..the 012 and my acoustic f130 have turned my head to being a Yamaha fan boy..so if i buy the best, no guitar porn will tempt me to buy another again lol 😁 i bought you a good coffee m8..hope you enjoy it 😜
Fresh guitars with outdated colours, the only option with rosewood board and translucent colour is Sunburst one but it's a bit expensive. I would like to see some fresh colours as well but not solid ones. Translucent is the most nicer, bcz we can see the wood grain which connect us to a guitar. And why no versions with maple tops? These with tops would be amazing!
Pickus totally agree except the including the HB all are sterile !! Adding a cap across the pickups to move the resonance a bit lower does the trick altho I might change them all !!
Terribly sorry for the mixup.. The price for the Japan made Pacifica Professional in Yamaha service is MSRP: USD3,700.00 The price in Sweetwater is: USD2199.99
Very nice review Jon... it should also be mentioned that the body is routed in such a way to help with its resonance and sustain. The Professional and the Studio Plus are the only Pacifica's that have this, along with the other amenities you mentioned in your fine review.
The only thing i will complain about is that you have to buy the more expensive version to get the 10" radius at the first fret and 14" radius at the 22 fret.. I do not like a 13.75" flat radius down at the first couple of frets.. feels to flat for cowboy chords.
Hi Jonathan, I saw this model showcased at NAMM, great you had the opportunity to review one. They look extremely well made and a quality instrument. Pickups were unusual but they sounded unique which held my gaze. However I thought the humbucker in S/C mode sounded to jangly and lacked midrange bite. Overall I enjoyed your review. Many thanks. Cheers ✌️🎸💜
For some reason I want one of these, even though it only seems slightly different from my other super strat style things. I guess that says a lot for Yamaha, plus I'm SUPER curious about those pickups...
Hello Jon ! thank you for the demo ! in some others demos on the web, this singles coil sound warm, round, in a very good jazzy way... reminds me Godin's single coils pickups ont je strat like Godin Session.
Thanks for reviewing. Intriguing product! A serious rival to the Fender! Please educate us by comparing this product to the equivalent Fender. Also compare between the Yamaha Pacifica Professional and Pasicifica Standard.
Great demo Jon! Really want to try this Pacifica Pro. Not sure you have any insight on this, but that Shell White body/RW neck version you are playing doesn't seem to be available on Yamaha website or by other sellers. Only comes in Sunburst and a Blue. Is that a special limited edition version you have?
Hey Jon! This is by far the best demo I found on this guitar and loved your playing too so thanks for that. Did you modify the tremolo system to have it floated?
That Pac is smooth but maybe not as smooth as the operator,I ordered the Nux loop core few minutes ago , your video on it gave me the want to need ,it’s what I’ve been missing ,more usable than the ones I’ve got
Hey Jon I wanted to watch that video with the great version of "Our God" your band played. I can't remember how to find it. It sounds fantastic and is very inspirational. I love the audience on the video.
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Thanks Jon. I bookmarked this video. It will always be there when I need inspirational music. I love your band and singers; quite impressive man! I need to find the full play list.
Hello! When you start your demo at 4:33. Do you use a noise gate or any sort of EQ? Im trying to judge if its the pickups that are sounding beautiful or any sort of post-processing. Your guitar playing has always been very clean and I've followed you since your Harley Benton reviews
Thank you.. of course there are processing being done. I’m using the effects with fender deluxe amp and the line 6 Helix native.. check the description ✌🏻❤️
Hello @jonistooloud, how would you compare/rate this one comparing to fgn odyssey expert eos-ash-m that you were also reviewing? I admire your skills, play and reviews. Very good a professional job. Thank you very much!
Pat Metheny is my favorite guitarist. Alex Lifeson is a favorite in his genre of music for me. Tim Pierce is technically sound and a favorite guitarist for me. But, you, sir, are now my favorite guitarist aside from Pat Metheny. You come up with the most pleasing melodies, and your creativity is second to none. I anticipate your reviews. You are only second to Pat Metheny because I love the music of Pat, Lyle, and the Pat Metheny Group. If you hooked up with a Lyle Mays type pianist/keyboardist; a Steve Rodby type bassist, and a Paul Wertico type drummer and played jazz, then you just might beat out Pat. But, you would have to occasionally include his synth-guitar tone. Lol. Take care. I
could you plz show us your gear and how you get those freaking epic tone what amp you use and your pedal board and explain about them , thank you i sure all your sub want to know , plz dont hide divide your tone secrets🙂🤘🎸
I think the better question is Pacifica Professional or Ibanez Prestige 2204? I just trust Japanese quality control and craftsmanship more at this point
What a shame. Yamaha distinguished themselves with the revstar by showing that guitars with high end features can be sold at a reasonable price. The they went and did this.
@@ChidOkiI just mean that they priced the mid-tier revstar (SS frets, chambering, carbon-fiber reinforced neck) at 800 and this is basically this same but actually without carbon fiber and with a whammy bar but somehow the it's500 more. I mean it's still a pretty good deal I just think the pricing is inconsistent.
@@pmcate2 Oh I see. I’m not saying it’s justified, but i think they’d probably point to the Reflectone pickups and the cost it took to R&D and manufacture that brand new product within the model as the reason for increased pricing. Or, they realized they underpriced the Revstar Standard and now need to make up for it haha
Sounds like the single coils are not noiseless so not that inovative IMHO. Why are we putting up with 60 cycle hum in 2024? For the price I'd rather get a 112 which is created great using machines with my fave wood of alder for body and maple for neck and shove some dimazio areas in it wit a wilkinson trem at a fraction of the price.
I’m sure it plays great. The pacificas are my fave s style coz they’re built great use alder and have a better neck radius and a hss config with coil split. I have 112 that’s great. Just saying for lead using the neck pickup you need noiseless and I reckon your better off modding a cheaper model coz the bones of their cheap guitars are great.
Yamaha high-end stuff is all great. Just remember you're buying it to keep it. If you're looking for an investment, get a Fender stratocaster to get your money back. Nothing is the original unless it's a real Fender. But Yamaha makes awesome guitars and bass.
If you buy one you'll be able to spend the rest of your life telling Fender jokes. >>>I had to return my new mail-order guitar. So I marked it "return to Fender."
Nice guitar but i don’t think many people will pay that kind of money for a Pacifica name, when there are so many other name brands available at that price point.Thats just the way the guitar world is.
I don’t understand why it’s different than Fender making 5-6 different price points for Stratocasters. Just because they have made in Mexico ones for $600 doesn’t make me associate them with cheaper guitars, I know that the $2,500 ones have different specs
I love Yamaha’s and this one in particular but it looks they copied a whole lot from the Ibanez AZES guitars on this new model because they are in direct competition with them.
