LECTURE: How is Jacob Böhme relevant today? The creative use of Böhme's ideas by twentiethcentury authors and the peculiar case of Philip K. Dick - by Scott Brown.
This lecture is part of the conference ‘The Role of the Netherlands in the Reception of Jacob Böhme’ from 6 - 8 October 2019. The mystical philosopher Jacob Böhme (1575-1624) was a prolific writer, but did not intend to publish any of his works. Yet he enjoyed an impressive international reception. The Netherlands and Amsterdam in particular played a key role in the dissemination of Böhme’s thought: it is here that main editions of his works were published. This conference is organised by Claudia Brink, Lucinda Martin and Cecilia Muratori as part of the ‘Jacob Böhme Exhibition Project’ supported by the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. The next exhibition on Böhme will be organized in collaboration with the Embassy of the Free Mind, also the venue of the exhibition ‘Eye for the World. The visionary thinker Jacob Böhme’ from 14th December 2019-15 March 2020.

Impressive . The matrix alongside the computer world with Bruno , Boehme and Paracelsus placed within this lecture is curious . Food for thought . Very good .

Their intrinsic vision of modern field theory. Natures only way of creating and negating.

I would like to listen to this lecture, but the audio quality is not very good and I have to strain to listen. I am interested in the content, though.

@Garrett Fitzgerald Well, look here! a teacher, a guru! What fun! I couldn't help notice your slight condesension, which I sincerely hope you outgrow, as it is a great mark of spiritual pride and inferiority. Nevertheless, I encourage you to hold on to your pride as long as you are able! A wise man, I have also read, never extolls his own merits. If you believe you are a wise man, and are extolling the merit of "not seeking", then you are extolling yourself, and therefore are not wise, and moreover are playing the coward by suggesting this obliquely rather than saying it outright. I on the other hand never claimed to be wise: Do you suppose that I believe that I am wise? I wonder, what is at the root of this envious perception? Or are you praising the wisdom of the lecturer, a very fine and noble thing for you to do?! On this point we may agree, though we would have to ask him ourselves if he sought anything to acquire the wisdom he has. Have a fulfilling, joyful day, my friend. I love and adore wisdom, but I would never claim to "have it". There is also the matter of your tone: the very priestly mode of your sentence. Are you hypnotized? Autohypnotized? Wake up! *smack* I await the Epson response. Thank you for bringing more joy into my day 😊 Flow on, my friend.

Fascinating talk, even if the title is misleading (about 5% Böhme, about 95% Philip K. Dick. How about "The Influence of Jacob Böhme on Philip K. Dick" as a revised title?). I read one of Dick's novels half a lifetime ago (Radio Free Albemuth), wasn't very impressed, and consequently have always dismissed him as paranoid, bi-polar and obviously a substance abuser. I still think all of that is true, though of course it doesn't negate the validity of any of his insights. But it does mean they need to be taken with a rather chunky grain of salt. Still, this talk has inspired me to take another look at him, maybe starting with the Exegisis. Thanks.

Hi there, thank you for your comment! We understand your point. The title of this video is simply the title that Scott Brown used for his lecture. We're happy to hear it inspired you to get into Philip K. Dick again. Happy discovering!
