'There are so many gurus today, both in the East and in the West, each one pointing his own way to enlightenment. How is one to know if they are speaking the truth?'

We are the light/the destination by birth! Nothing to do, nothing to be and no where to go. We just have to WAKE UP to what we already are. The great Krishnamurti explained all this very well, a true Guru's job is teaching us that we are all our own Gurus, our own source of light! Just gotta look from within! We are all connected, all one.

He is as if in a trance speaking from a mysterious depth--near but far away--reaching out to touch another heart, mind, soul. Mesmerizing. Do away with authority and then there is but love where one can act with intelligence. Is that in part the radical revolution of which he teaches--saying more in one sentence that could fill volumes. Saw clip of him on Netflix showing 3 of the Zeitgeist films. I've been a single parent working three and four jobs, providing, sacrificing, fighting my way for many years and now learning love. But, first I had to be a warrior.

JK stands for 'Just Knowing'. He stands for pure knowing. And the rest all that is going on in the world (east or west) in the name of spirituality is all crap and cowdung. Guru means he knows and the disciples are just idiots. This is the premise on which the business of Gurudom and Spiritual Shoppes are resting. It takes guts and courage to say, "I don't know." It takes even much more courage to say, "We can not know anything." Spirituality means the knower disappears in the unknowable. We can not know the unknowable. The unknowable remains unknowable ever. It is the mind that gives hope that we can know in the future. Time is a product of the mind. The mind can move only in time. The mind and time are directly proportional. They are linear. Whereas knowing and time are inversely proportional. Enlightenment and the Mind are inversely proportional. They are non-linear. Enlightenment happens when the mind ceases. Enlightenment happens when the time ceases. Enlightenment and Timelessness are directly proportional. What is Enlightenment? It is an existential experience of not knowing the unknowable. Enlightenment is the existential experience of the dissolution of the knower in the unknowable. Enlightenment is not like a chocolate or an icecream. And hence it can not be given. And it happens, surely it happens. A true Guru is one who is humble enough to say he can not give. He is down to earth to admit that he does not know. Socrates says he does know nothing. Thanks :)

What a message! Indeed I got all answers from this lecture. He is an amazing personality. I am fortunate to get this video. I have been struggling with gurus, paramparas, mantras, chanting 108 times. This man made me to think myself deeply to figure out answers myself rather than wondering around organisations, believing stupid gurus.

This brief Krishnamurti video (in particular) really does put things in a very accurate perspective, and his life story is just as mind blowing as the information he discusses. Enlightenment can happen only of Its own accord because it's an evolution of Consciousness (and that can't be bought or sold). A Krishnamurti quote putting things in an accurate perspective occured when someone asked him if meditation would result in Enlightenment. His reply was: "Meditation IS Enlightenment". Once the intellect quiets down in meditation, the "Stillness" that remains is exactly and precisely the end result that we're looking for in the quest for Enlightenment. The problem is that it's very difficult to relate to Stillness in an Existence comprised entirely of motion. The purpose of meditation and solitude is to allow that Stillness free reign (instead of It being buried with intellectual concepts). The purpose of intellectual information from a guru is only to inform us of the nature of what that Stillness actually happens to be.

To me he is saying, think for yourself, feel for yourself, be with your experience, and let yourself find something like your own original assessment of things, your own angle, your own perspective. How do things look to you? See if you can be okay with that, and not kowtow to various authorities, and maybe something nice will bloom.

Only a living intelligent organism, is speaking thru its instrument - the egoic mind in response to interior thoughts or exterior stimulus. When their Christian faith remained fossilised, yet psychology and science indicated the world was changeing, young people searched for new ways of understanding and the east was an obvious choice to many. Self revelation is hard work and painful, which is why its more comfortable to find a "daddy" (guru) to look after one. These self proclaimed masters often reveal one truth which is impressive enough to ensnare us into a world of unreality. Escape from the guru is now necessary - and so it goes - vigilance or healthy scepticism is the way. I know from personal experience.

+John Burman Personal experience? I'm having 3rd eye awakening forced, clock work orange style, via esoteric blood sacrifice. I'm violated. They wont stop invading my thoughts until I die, or give into their oppressive ways, not sure, really, wtf they want, maybe just for me to die. I can't understand why my family would be into such evil things or how it is that anyone could feel justified doing this to another. This sort of abuse needs to be brought into the forefront, along with pedophilia and all that stuff nobody wants to talk about. It's everywhere! The abusers are victims too.

so called enlightenment (which is a phrase i do not particularly care for ) is a study of oneself. A guru or indeed anyone else cannot possibly know all you have done or your present state of being' which is why enquiry and insight is the only way to delve into the complex world which is you. enlightenment is not a thing that ends' it is ongoing as you live' which is why it is not something that is got and then put my feet up. it is a living thing and even then that person can only point the way for someone else, to help someone else to see it' and the seeing of it, is its own teacher so that reliance on the person that pointed the way is finished.

You are alone if you want to be enlightened. Then there is no God; then there is nobody who can help you. Because if you need anybody's help, that very help becomes a bondage. If somebody helps you to become free, you will start depending on him/her. Then without him/her you will not be able to be free. No help is possible on the path of meditation, only indications. Buddha has said, "Buddhas only show the path. They cannot help in any substantial way. You have to go on your own, you have to be your own light."

I suppose the word Guru is the problem. The real issue for us is surrender of the Egoic mind to quit life in separation - we do the "work". The inner voice is the real guru (unless one has serious mental illness in which case the inner voice is possibly confused by other issues). The outer world provides signposts by way of books, speakers etc. A self professed all claiming guru may be manipulative and a barrier to revelation - this is the danger. However at a certain stage for a while, it may also be beneficial, so vigilance is necessary as we go on the journey.

the problem is . he was burdened by expectations since beginning .. the guru hoopla is as such not right .. but the vedas and upanishads have clearly shown how to live life .. ..after knowing nothing much remains except to live with it .. this whole business of nirvana stems from deeper desire of understanding the unknowable which again is very human .. after all the knowledge and intellectual masturbations .. what is left is what u ought to do with life .. TO live it the right way ..

Any inspirational talk acts as an input, or a pointer, now if don't see false as false, then it's ours fault not the fault of that input, But can we say that we don't require any input? What can a true teacher/ or true input do ,if the fault is in the followers ? Listening to such inputs becomes as useless.as blowing into bamboo. It produces no music

It would be nice if some authority or god like figure put all gurus and spiritual teachers/philosophers/mystics/monks/rabbis/popes/imams etc in one room and come up with just one agreed-upon, a common manual of some sort on the issue of God/enlightenment, and how to achieve it.

First you have to define Enlightenment. To some it just means awareness which anyone can do, so by that meaning it is true. To others it means the total eradication of self/ego, few actually totally lost that, some maybe just be with an ego as an invisible persona. Think the problem is even if you become a deeply uprootied samadhi through self inquiry or mindfulness, it will not last because we live in a world of image printing and judgmental finite knowledge.. So how do you let the human interaction not print on you ? Maybe that requires to constantly empty the mind of social impression perceptions that surround you through a liberating breathing out through thought and letting go of, out of the thought mind cave.

+optizap Yea, but there is a way to speed up the process. If one truly understands the nature of the mind including how thoughts are formed, the very nature of the mind, then one will come to a realization of what role it should play in one's life. If you understand that thoughts are used to interpret the future in means of creating psychological security, then in that very understanding there is an end to the influence of thought. It is only through enquiry and understanding that the mind will come to its right place, otherwise, it will go all over the place. If you have a friend that repeatedly lies to you, then after a while you will understand that and no longer fall for the lies, then you are no longer a prisoner - same goes for the mind.

+André Sandberg Find asking and looking where is it in silent attention clears off the minds fabrications. Think it requires a whole =V= attention with an empty mind to actually see clearly.
