How about I tell you a story and it’s a true one but it’s one that nobody seems to know about I know about it because growing up where I grew up in the building I grew up in which was in Central America. My dad was the civilian chaplain working for the military, at one point I came across a book about these two men, and the rather interesting exploits during World War II the two gentlemen and questions their names I don’t remember, but I’m sure you can find them easily enough. I’ll explain why here’s the story these two guys went to Shiva high school, and they had a habit of passing notes to each other now anybody who knows if you pass notes in school and the teacher finds it you’re lucky if the teacher doesn’t read your note out loud in this case, they knew that if their teacher found it, he would do just that, so they came up with a code among themselves, which drove their teacher, absolutely bunkers, because he couldn’t read what was written there I got in trouble with the head of the Shiva, who told him not to pass notes, so they’d be putting in two different classes Two different when they say classes you have to understand it’s a Shiva so it’s not classes like you think in public school there are different levels, OK and different rabbis who teach there they have their own techniques and styles it’s too complicated for me to explain and doing justice, by explaining anyway When the war happened, one signed up and one was a draft which was pretty much right after high school, both were put in as men the interesting thing about the story was they had a habit of encrypting their messages so that only somebody on the other side could decipher it And they arranged that people they knew would basically they were very good at their jobs. Let’s leave it at that but they were very very fast so they had a hard time deciphering it quickly when they both ended up in the Pacific they were sent there because they were damn good and they weren’t enough radio men When they found out when one found out one was on a particular island, and the other one was there because he could tell by the way, he phrased certain things he used his code to see the code that they had developed to see if it was him when he answered him They said this is what we do will use this code code and that way the Japanese won’t be able to decipher it the way they’ve been deciphering all the other messages and that’s what they did in 1960. Both men were called in to the CIA apparently they had found wow Doing research and study and putting things away as it were a whole bunch of in fact, they told them young men that it had caused certain Japanese to commit suicide because they could not decipher these messages and they would like to know how you how do you how can they read this? How can they decide for this because their own codebreakers couldn’t decipher it either That’s why they asked them both young men certain metals they were supposed to receive certain other metals but because they were Jewish like many Jewish servicemen, they didn’t receive their metals that they had been put in for they did tell the CIA about their code and how they developed it and why you couldn’t break it was because it’s based on I don’t remember if it’s your Hebrew itself but it’s based it’s kind of based in their time in the yeshiva, and unless you know that language, you would not be able to break it I don’t know if presidents in the 80s or 90s ever corrected the fact that they never got their medals. I have no idea but I found it interesting that they kept Allied ships and military alive by keeping that code among themselves and the Japanese couldn’t decipher it so I advise you to go look them up, their story is extremely interesting and like I said they were two yeshiva boys and they served in a part of the Pacific that was literally not going well and they made it a little better. I’m using voice to text and I cannot fix the mistakes. It makes no punctuate because it doesn’t do that and my hands do not work not properly anyway, my eyes aren’t working properly either but that’s another story where it says Shiva. It should say yeshiva. But I think you shouldn’t have a problem finding their story out considering that their story made headlines in the late 1960s while I say headlines because of the fact that the CIA and others couldn’t break their code. I think the thing that made it more interesting was the fact that at the time I was in third grade, and my best friend, and I had been separated by the teacher, who was a very clever clogs in that whenever we pass notes she could read them or figure out how to read them we had to come up with our own code And I mean at one point we put it in braille so that she shouldn’t be able to read it and she sent us both back Brio message saying that the next time we tried that she was going to read her message out loud like I said, very clever teacher we had, and it was a public school Unlike the two guys I mention above, that’s why I found their story fun to read about my friend, and I came up with our own code, and it was a little bit harder for her to figure out, but it was nothing like what they came up with in fact, she didn’t figure it out And then my friend her family got stationed back stateside and that was the end of our messaging was before phones that had mess systems the old-fashioned way when you sent letters in an envelope I’m old I’m probably older than you, but I might be wrong you just look younger than me I’m the child of my parents old age. Both my parents were in the war my father when I save the war, I am talking the second world war and I was born after that not soon after that but after that, I’m not a baby boomer because I wasn’t born exactly at the time of baby boomers, and like I said, in the child of my parents old age, I should say everything. I grew up on the stories of World War II and the soldiers who were there my adopted Irish grandfather was one of those who were there, but he never liked talking about it. He said, too many people he knew died, and he didn’t think he was a big hero, but he was to me, and he always would be.
I knew a Sergeant Major at Fort Leonard Wood, MO in 1978-1979. He was a Polish teenager when Germany invaded Poland. He, like so many Polis teens, joined the Polish free Army despite lack of training, equipment, etc. He fought the Germans until he was our of ammunition, food, and infrastructure support. He was taken prisoner…. he expected to be executed. The Commander of the German unit gave him two options: be “drafted”into the German Army to fight Russia, or “eat a bullet”. Since bullets don’t taste good, he changed into a German uniform. Being a natural soldier, he fought well and received promotions. Ay whatever battle, he was wounded and taken prisoner by a Russian unit. He was given two [new] options by the Russian Commander: Put on a Russian uniform and fight, or eat another bullet. Not being especially hungry for lead, he donned the Russian uniform; and fought against the Germans. He obviously improved his battle skills, because no one captured him before the war’s end. Unfortunately, by this time he was fluent in German [multiple dialects], Russian, and Polish. That made him a valuable asset! So the Russians kept him in the Army rather than discharging him [or shipping him off to a Gulag]. He was transferred to Berlin as a guard at the Berlin Wall. He watched German civilians trying [and dying] to jump the Wall to freedom. At some point, he said ‘to Hell with it’….he deserted his Post and jumped the Wall….luckily not shot by either side while doing so! He was taken prisoner by the West Germans, but turned over to the CIA. Our side grilled him for months to ensure he wasn’t a double agent. At long last, he was to be freed….but had nowhere to go. If he went to Poland, he wouldn’t live long after serving in the German Army; if he stayed in West Germany, it’s was likely he’d come to a bad end for service in the Russian Army. The CIA gave him an option [no, eating a bullet wasn’t included]: join the US Army! Obviously the Army would find his background valuable. So he went to Basic Training, AIT as an Engineer; he served well and advanced quickly. So this one man wore four uniforms [Polish, German, Russian, and American]; fought in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam; received multiple awards in all four Armies….and didn’t recall life as a civilian.
Com’on of course it was fate! Puppy love, separated by hundreds of miles, survived a war, escapes getting recaptured only to find refuge at her doorstep many years later! Let us not forget that she happens to be a widow when they reunite. OMG! This would be a fantastic movie!
Thank you for sharing this with us. Quite a story. There’s another I wished someone would do a movie on..Georg Gartner was a Sgt. in Rommel’s Afrika Korps, captured and sent to a POW camp in the USA. After the war he was afraid they would send him back to Germany where the Russia now had control over. He escaped and lived 40 years running from the FBI. It’s quite a fascinating story.
I feel it's getting such a great feedback because we as a nation are beginning to reach a higher vibration; and prefer to see stories with love! #teachlove
Oh man I could totally see this being a blockbuster movie if it were ever made!! I think it would be great to start with a family in the present day with something that happens that causes a family member/s to do som historic family investigating!!❤❤❤
I just saw the short on this...again! I had seen it a while ago and written a comment, but I couldn't find it among the avalanche of comments. But when one person suggested googling the story, I did. I found a version of it, but a lot of people were very skeptical about the story, and said it could not be true. So I kept looking, and I came across this video, your longer account of how you happened to find the story. I have to say that I'm so glad you did this, explaining where you found it (in an 1884 newspaper account) and trying to answer all the questions. It is an incredibly marvelous story of love lost in early adulthood and regained by virtue of serendipity and the power of the universe years later. We all love a great love story! This one is epic! Thank you!
Thank you for the follow up Nick and yes, it is an awesome story! Job well done by you and your team researching this as well!👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 By the way, the Notebook story is pretty good too! It involves a World War II vet as well. PS: I believe in Faith!🙏🏽🙏🏽 Semper Fi brother!🇺🇸❤️
JP, thanks for your service in Vietnam. I was right behind you in the Marine Corps. I served 1973-1977. Closes I got to Vietnam was March 1975. I was assigned to 1/9th Marines headed to Vietnam from Okinawa to help with the possible evacuation. For some reason, myself and maybe 10 others were told to return to 9th Marines at Camp Hansen. To this day, almost 50 yrs ago, I have no idea why we were told return. Semper Fidelis from an old Marine Sergeant
I hope you take this project on yourself, so that it doesn't lose anything. Hollywood wouldn't do it justice and they would insist on bad casting and working in some current agendas for sure.
This happened to me! In 1998 I saw a girl in bakery, she didn't speak a word to me! In my mind I said to myself, if the destiny wants we will meet again! In 2003 I met a girl on an ice skating ground in Budapest. A couple of months later I got to know her sister. That's when I found out that my girlfriend was actually the girls I met in the bakery because back then she had short hair, but her sister working in the bakery looked the same! We got married in 2008 and since 2014 we have our daughter! So such things happen!
It's the great late David McCullough. He did a lot of Ken Burns documentary. As this one is his war collection and the best way to learn about the civil war. Know idea why this guy is not giving credit to Ken Burns or David McCullough.
Here's something for you guys. My parents. Both of their grandfathers on male side were born in County Ulster, Ireland which isn't by itself to think so weird. BUT both families who didn't know the other moved to same state, Cnty, and city. They literally lived across the street of the other but at different times and didn't meet until after the War They never knew. I found it. What's chance of that!
@@ThisDate I know. Just learned that last summer. I'm 71! And more hysterical is my mom's dad's lineage goes back to a Gaelic king/clan who ruled Ulster at the turn of BC to AD. The first decade. Finn something. Can never remember but wrote it down. Up there around Dublin area. Unbelievable isn't it? Just blows my mind.
My neighbor was a Veteran of the Korean War and the stories he told me of the war while serving with the 65th Infantry were inspirational. It would be great you can do a story about the 65th infantry, also known as the Borinqueniers. Thank you.
Oh I am rooting for you to make this film, Nick! Yes-do it yourself. You understand the elements of a good story-romance, peril, faith, loss, hope, maybe even some humor too lol-all of it. You will make this great. I’m trying to bring my screenplay to life too so I understand. Would love to connect with you to see how I can support this. I love it.
I, very much, enjoyed this video! New subscriber & cant wait to dig into your other videos! I hope YOU write a screenplay for this story! I think you'd do it justice!! Here's to getting 100k subscribers!! Cheers!!🎉
We have to get our young people out of the rut they have saddler them with. They think we are a horrible and vicious country. They need to know about all of the real people who built our country.
I absolutely loved t this short. In fact it is what made me subscribe to your channel. I came here looking for more on this and found it. It should totally be made into a movie!! Maybe Nicolas Sparks will produce one.
I love every movie Charles Bronson played a rôle in.. such a humble guy! And your 100% they absolutely should do a movie based on Charles and i think Josh Brolin would be perfect to pull it off imo.
@@ThisDate I just watched the video. I’ve got some time tonight to do some research. 😆 If I can find my 2nd great grandfather’s records … I can find Mary’s first husband. 😆 It just may take some time.
Hi, Mr. R. If this amazing story materializes into a screen play and is eventually made into a movie, I have possible suggestions for casting the two main roles of Otis & Susan Mary. I am not very familiar with most of the younger actors these days but I just watched a film set during WWI based on a memoire by Vera Brittain called Testament of Youth and thought two of the actors in that movie might be cast to star in your picture. Taron Egerton (Academy Award winner for Best Actor in Rocket Man) as Otis and Alicia Vikander (Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in the Danish Girl) as Susan Mary. They might be a little old for the roles (34 & 35 respectively) but I thought they each resembled Otis & Susan Mary somewhat and have the gravity and sensitivity to help tell this story. I know casting is way, way down the road but just thought I'd mention them. Hope the film comes to fruition.
FOUND HIM: Where was he born Bangor, Penobscot County, Maine, (1837) United States of America Her name (when they married in 1870) in Hunt Co. Texas was Susan M Roby. Susan (I am going to take it was born there too.) They had four kids. Dee Lila Burton Marcus Casius Burton Otis Henry Burton Viola Susan Burton
You gave me the answer I most wanted to know. They had children. Now I want to know is there anybody out there who can claim to be a real descendant of the coupe. What is their story? Having been reunited in the way they had it makes you wonder if there was divine intervention. And with that you wonder why and what was the purpose. I think any movie should attempt to in some way incorporate the story and path of their offspring.
I would love to know how you can find some much of the details of all your stories! There are several shorts that should be movies but Hollywood is way to woke to do that!
Yes, thank U so much for all these stories. Plz thank U staff & all who research, live them so much. I just wish so much that my dad, a WWII VETERAN PEARL HARBOR, was here to see them all. God Bless U 🙏🤲🕊✝️😇🪖✈️🚢⚓️❤
@ThisDate I enjoy your content for the most part. I was searching for the entire story told and that's what I thought I had found in the video. Perhaps make a long format video telling their story and all details you can find. Thanks and God bless
I just watched the short and its ok. Being that neighborhood's back in those days didn't have thousands of houses in the hood so running into the girl again was more likely then than nowadays. Im not a die hard romantic but more of a realists but it you think all the sappy movies on the Hallmark channel are great yeah this probably seems like a incredibly story. My great X's 6 (give or take 1 to 3 more or less generations) grandfather was also killed by Indians so that's not something that is unheard of for my family. Again I am not a die hard romantic type so its just a story. Now there are some pretty incredible stories that absolutely should be a movie on the ww2 shorts. Those stories absolutely are amazing and incredible.
Of course divine intervention. It's called Providence by many synchronicity or coincidence by others. Statistical mathematics based upon law of probability of occurances would designate it as very very low % of probability based off populations of T / F.
@@janethompson2305 I can imagine him with an arrow in his shoulder, falling off a horse and slowly walking to the door, she wonders who it is and seeing his bloody face instantly recognizes him. Helping him inside, she hides the horse, and tack. The commanches believing him dead, throws him into the arms of fate.
I hope whoever makes it into a movie doesn't take their creative liberties to the extent many in Hollywood do. They are prone to take beautiful, chaste, virtuous stories and make them into neo porn. That's such a disservice to the characters. The reason producers and directors turn good stories into porn is because THEY want to see the actors in creepy, nasty scenes. They have a horrible addiction and use their actors to get off... Stats show that more money is made on PG movies than R or X movies (until very recently) Why? Because most people have standards. They don't want their children corrupted by what they call. "Hollyweird". I say, "That's fair"
Maybe Otis shot the husband and the husband gave him a picture of his wife and asked Otis to give her a message for him. And when Otis sees the picture he realizes it is his long lost love. That’s why he escapes from the natives and goes to find her! There ya go, I just wrote your plot, you’re welcome… 😂
You sent me here from the short but Im not seeing the other side friend.Maybe do a vid on the price of colonization paid by the people who were colonized. If Canada can look beyond the myth you Americans can as well.
The story might be true, but the photos you put to the story are unrelated. Those are three different men and two different women. Anyone with the slightest sense of discernment can see that if they aren't so wrapped up in the story that the details don't matter to them. The photo deception actually creates my strong suspicion that story is complete horse💩 as well. In it for the clicks?
