George Phillips Bond wrote these lines after seeing a total eclipse in 1851: “Language is utterly powerless. I cannot picture a sight more awfully glorious on this side of heaven.” Thanks for capturing the glory, Brian! I was so happy to be there with you! ☀️🌑💛

I flew from Orange County, California to San Antonio to view the eclipse. And like you, I was bummed when I saw the weather forecast. I studied weather maps the day before and it seemed like the Dallas/Fort Worth area had better conditions than San Antonio. So we took a 3.5 hour drive that morning to Cleburne, Texas, just south of Fort Worth. There were a few passing clouds but was perfectly clear during totality. It was an amazing moment I will never forget.

Awesome video! It reminded me of my experience. I don't know if someone will read this but...I was not expecting getting that emotional during the eclipse . I've seen the pictures and videos before and I always found those very beautiful of course. But nothing can describe the feeling while it is happening in front of you but I'll try. You first look at the sun with light blocking glasses and you first see the moon blocking the sun. I said to myself... ok... this is really happening a bit in denial. And then you see it blocking slowly but surely. The temperature is starting to cool down even if the light is very bright. It made me realize how we are so dependent on the sun's energy for all life on earth. It made me appreciate how sun=life. The shadows have weird shapes. You look at the landscape and you know something is odd. And then... totality his happening, the crowd is screaming in awe, we just can't contain ourselves, it is literally impossible to contain. You feel the hype, it is stronger than what you expected. It is sunset colors 360 all around you and you see what seems like a black hole in the sky. Truly the weirdest and most beautiful thing I ever saw. You can see the sun atmosphere surrounding the moon, it feels violent, chaotic and you can't believe you can see sun storms with your naked eye. It is frightening and amazing at the same time. You can see planets and star which feels like a glitch in the matrix in day time. I felt like everybody wanted to share the joy with others. It removes the day to day problems. At that moment, hundreds of people are just cheering up what the universe can show us. It is a first timer for 99% of us so we are like a child discovering the world again looking confused and excited at the same time. So it is all there, right in front of you, the sun, the moon, the planets, the stars, the animals reacting to us and the light, the insects and bird chants changing, all people around you, many from around the world to see this, different languages, different families, different loves. But all our differences doesn't matter for those 4 minutes we all share one love to us and the universe. I felt connected to what our ancestors felt and I was grateful for them. I felt connected to the immensity of the universe and all its beauty
@absorbingphotons
@absorbingphotons 6 месяцев назад
Thank you for leaving your comment - I read it all! Yes, I completely get what you mean about how you realize how imperative the Sun is for life on Earth. Indeed it is frightening and amazing at the same time. Part of the script I had written (but had to cut) was I described it as beautifully ominous. Thanks for lending your words - we feel the same about eclipses.

That's amazing - so glad to hear so many people in Texas (including my friends who didn't change their plans) got to see it after all! I probably would have just stuck it out, but one of the bucket list items was catching a full time lapse of C1 to C4 like you see in this video, which included partial phases, so I really wanted it to be perfectly clear.

2:59 I'm glad to see you remembered to bring bricks with you. That's the mark of experience! My plan was for Lake Placid, NY. I had it all scoped out for a wide angle eclipse progression shot with a magnificent mountain background. At 1 a.m. on eclipse day, having brooded over the declining weather forcast, I told my daugher we were relocating. We drove through the night and arrived at a Maine parking lot at 12:30 p.m. Sky's were completely cloudless. Suffering from brain fog, I tossed the plan for working 4 cameras and reduced it to 3. But with the brain fog I stilled messed up a bit, but got really great shots from 2 of the cameras. I'm aiming for Luxor, Egypt in August, 2027.

I did my research, learned how to use a DSLR camera, planned photo sequences out, watched videos, and looked at hundreds of photos. I had seen two partial eclipses and 1 annular eclipse. Even with all that I was not prepared for what I witnessed in the path of totality in Carbondale, IL that afternoon. It took my breath away and left me damn near speechless. It looked nothing like I thought it would. I had to say out loud, do what you came here for (my planned photo sequence). There are no words that could accurately describe the sight of totality. Maybe stunningly beautiful. If an accurate to the eye photo was somehow possible it wouldn’t be believable. A sight that made me, a 28 year old man, have tears. And this video was incredibly well done.

Pictures and videos don't do it justice anyway. I saw it in Toledo, OH, and there's something about a total eclipse that simply doesn't show up in media. It can only be seen in person. It was much bigger than I expected and simply indescribable. This video is awesome but no video or image can show what it really looks and feels like.

That was beautiful, Brian. Well done on capturing both the visuals and the excitement of totality. You've got my sub! I also saw my first total solar eclipse in 2017 in Oregon, and then waited the 7 years for this one. Above all else I wanted to share the experience with my family, who had missed 2017's. So a year ago we reserved an AirBnB in Del Rio, Texas, since it had some of the best chances for clear skies. Well, you know how that went. Despite the grim forecasts we made the trip down to Texas, and on the morning of eclipse day it was complete overcast and some light rain. We'd given up hope of seeing anything except the sudden darkness. But as the eclipse unfolded and the temperature dropped, the clouds started dissipating a little. It was just enough. The shadow of totality swept over us (which was quite dramatic on the cloud cover, it was like the mother of all storms) and then for about 10 wondrous seconds a hole opened up and we got a surprise view of the completely eclipsed Sun. It was incredible. I took some photos and videos, but like you said, what I value the most is that my parents got to see it. Traveling is becoming harder for them with age now, and this might be the last eclipse they could get to. Wherever your next eclipse journey takes you, good luck and clear skies!

Your quest to witness a Total Solar Eclipse is similar to mine. In March 1970, (the You're So Vain eclipse) my brother and I witnessed a 97% partial from our home in Warwick, RI. The dim butterscotch colored sunlight at 97% was exciting and whetted my appetite for totality. I was 15 years old and was bummed to read that I'd have to wait 47 yrs for the next US opportunity on August 2017. -I relocated to Jacksonville FL in 2010. Perhaps my 1st thought when I got here was that the 2017 path of totality would be a just 6 hour drive to NE Georgia. My wife and saw 1:50 of totality in Helen, GA. No photograph will ever do an eclipse justice and I know of no words to adequately describe it's beauty. My wife and were approximately 10 miles from the dead center line. And the Center Line was my goal for April 8, 2024. My wife was unable to join me so my son and had an adventure. Our original plan to drive to Texas had to be scrapped. So My son and I drove to a spot about 4 miles WNW from Poplar Bluff Missouri, about 1 mile from dead center. My son and I saw 4:10 of breathtaking Totality. You eloquently described how spectacular beauty of the eclipse is all the more special when family and friends are present. Good job !

There's something much deeper to experiencing a total eclipse than just watching one celestial body pass in front of another. My son and I chased that blue spot in the sky and ended up with a great view in Erie, but not before an hour or so of sheer pandemonium thinking the clouds rolling in were going to spoil our effort. I've been trying for almost 2 weeks now to sort out why it affected me so profoundly. One thing is certain, like many people's comments I read, I want to see another. Anybody want to go to Spain?

How it felt for me: Sun's almost gone, almost gone. Ok, gone - I can hear everyone behind me yelling. I'll give myself 10 more seconds... don't want to hurt my eyes... WOW. It's such fine detail! The red prominences and black moon disk are so clear through the thin cloud cover! I can't make out the finest details of the corona through the thin clouds (I didn't know there were fine details to see), but I can still easily make out its shape! It isn't pitch black like so many videos say. Most of the pictures I've seen don't match it at all. Ok, time to look away. Ok, one more look. Them are some tiny tiny red dots... the disk is so round, the red dots are so fine, apparent and detailed...

I’m so glad you got to see it and get those amazing images! I waited those years too and I live in Texas, so I can’t tell you how my heart sank when the forecast predicted rain. I literally prayed the entire week! My family and I drove to Kosse, TX, a very small town south of Waco. When we all got up it was overcast but we kept praying. When we got to Kosse the clouds were more isolated and breaking up. As the eclipse started, blue skies and it stayed clean long after the eclipse was over-so we got to see it all in its entirety! I had never seen a total eclipse, neither had my mom and dad. Now I get it. It was so amazing! That beautiful corona, the 360 “sunset”, the solar flares! I could have watched it for an hour! One of my best memories of the total solar eclipse is sharing the experience with my family, too. My wife, 4 kids and I took road trips in 2017 and 2024 to witness totality. Words cannot really describe all the amazing phenomena nor the emotions that one feels. I thank God for such wonderful times with my family, and for His amazing design of our solar system to make such an awesome sight possible!

Thank you so much! It required aligning 1100 frames by hand, one by one, and then blending some of the totality frames together. I intend to complete the second half at some point but the first half took me over 24 hours, so I'll get around to it someday once I feel up for it. And I really appreciate the sub - thank you!

Wow! You are a great story teller and a camera shot cannot beat the clarity of a telescope shot. I only got C1 to C3 in Texas Manson.

Beautiful video. I relived the experience all over again. I can relate in many ways. I live in LA. I planned on flying to Dallas. I couldn't find a hotel in Dallas to stay in. So, Plan B: Go out of Dallas to country side. Couldn't find a car to rent anywhere in Dallas. Plan C: Rent a car in LA and drive to the newly picked site, Fredricksburg, near the center of the path of totality. Weather started looking crappy. Plan D: Scramble to find a spot near the center of path of totality. Settled on Hardy, AR. Couldn't find a hotel. Settled on hotel in Plains View, MO about 50 miles north of Hardy. The weather became uncertain again with patchy clouds and I wasn't sure whether the clouds would break during totality. Plan E: Scramble to find another site a day before the eclipse. Settled on Mountain View, AR. Drove there early morning on the day of Eclipse (70 miles on single-lane country roads with no shoulders - luckily not much traffic). It paid off. Finally! Witnessed/photographed the entire event from C1 through C4 with clear skies. I drove 4000 miles (return trip) in 4 days. No regrets; only the excitement of looking forward to the next one.

It was amazing! I was in Indianapolis for this event. I remembered watching the 2017 eclipse on TV and dreamed of going somewhere for the eclipse in 2024. 8 months ago, I began planning to see the Eclipse. I was originally planning on going to Cleveland but the plane tickets were $500 more expensive than Indianapolis'. I changed course to Indiana and planned to stay there for 24 Hours. I saw the Eclipse at the Motor Speedway and at that moment, I realized how in that small portion moment in my life, I witnessed a hole in the sky, a beautiful hole. When I got back on the plane home a couple hours after the event, I sat there staring at the plane window. I said to myself "I would love to become an Eclipse Chaser, it was the most beautiful hole that I've witnessed in the sky and I want more of it." I am looking forward to seeing the next one in 2026, which is going to be overseas. I loved this video because it made me take a look back and showed how I and you, fully witnessed the moment together.

I had to chuckle at your planning and executing of your eclipse plans. Mine unchangingly mirrored yours. I'm from the Bay Area and in 2017, I drove with a friend to a tiny town (John Day, OR) in central Oregon and camped out just like you did. This year, I had planned to go to Texas, but at the last minute I switched it over to Vermont, and I had to fly to Newark on a red-eye and drive up to Burlington, VT to see it. Glorious. I agree with you that nothing can describe the experience. I equate this to the difference to watching people on a roller coaster and actually experience it. I loved your video.

Wow, that's pretty wild! We were just up the road in Mitchell, OR for the 2017 eclipse, and also came from the Bay Area at the time (Alameda). That's seriously crazy your plan pretty much mirrored mine. So glad you did all of that too, and thanks for the kind words!

People who haven't seen one don't understand what's so spectacular about it. They see the pictures and think, "So, a white spot turns dark. What's the big deal?" But cameras just do NOT capture the dazzling light show that we see. Bailey's beads look like some static white poking through on a black sphere. But, it is indescribably beautiful. Fantastic pictures. If only they began to capture what you actually see. Video was well made, too. Subscribed.

Great video Brian! We changed plans as well. My friend and I had reservations in Kerrville Texas, but the forecast was not good. So we traded totality time for hopefully clearer skies, and went to Brady instead. Occasional high cloud but otherwise great. My in-laws showed up as well. Great experience and your video helped bring that back!

To me it was a very moving experience. I too got several photographs of the eclipse. From the beginning through totality. I went by myself to Houlton, Maine, About 150 miles from my home and met some really nice people who drove all the way from Texas to Houlton to be able to view it. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Thanks for posting. Saw my first one at 11 years old. Within a week of experiencing that, I was saddened that, unless I flew off to a distant destination, it would be 38 years before I could experience that again. My second one was your first one. Saw April 8 in Arkansas. This video of yours did a great job of triggering the emotions - still fresh in my inner being. Thanks for doing that.

Thanks for sharing your story. I have the same feelings surrounding eclipses. My dad introduced me to astronomy and I love experiencing eclipses. I can hear his voice as the eclipse progresses. It's a nice memory to have. This was my 4th total eclipse, two were with him. I've stopped trying to get the perfect picture and spend my efforts trying to get as many people as want, to experience them and see them through a telescope. I still take pictures though. I went to Texas for this one. The cloud forecast caused us to drive 4 1/2 hours northeast and we were blessed to have clear skies during the entire event. Drove through a huge hailstorm after on our way back to our lodging. I'm looking forward to the next one. DG ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ghWBesyR0Cw.html

I drove 1000 miles from South Georgia up to Erie Pennsylvania to watch this eclipse. The buildup of excitement from the start of the eclipse all the way to totality is awesome, and its even better with a crowd of people around you when everyone begins to cheer and then go silent in awe as the sun disappears. A 360 Degree sunset without a setting sun and the sudden appearance of Venus made it all the better! Worthwhile experience, great video of a moment to remember forever :)
