Apple Butter is apple sauce that you cook more and more liquid out of, and eventually then caramelize some of the sugars. You can make it straight from the apples as well, but in this case it makes perfect sense to use the byproduct in a non-wasteful way.
@@puzzledobserver7644 Sometimes? When would capitalizing on wasted resources not be positive. I suppose it's negative when it isn't capitalist, and is enforced by legislation, in which case it may result in higher prices to the consumer.
When I was a kid, my grandparents owned what we always called "The Apple Orchard," although it was really a 14 acre farm. And every year, they made apple cider, apple juice, apple butter, and apple wine. It was just the two of them, so in small batches the old fashioned way, and they were in their 60s and 70s when they did it, but every family visit to that place was amazing. And this video just reminded me of that. Thanks!
I despised my grandparents apple orchard as a kid. Hated picking apples. Hated getting stung by bees while washing the apples. Hated selling apples. Needless to say, in the decade since I finished highschool I can count on one hand the amount of times I've visited.
The church across from my childhood home would make apple butter by throwing in whole apples and cooking it for days, taking shifts. It was amazing. You’d get some stems and gross bits but it was the best tasting apple butter I’ve ever had.

@@sandrascott2606 it's used a lot like jam. Though there was a time at the end of the 90s where it was used as an alternative to tomato products as a base for barbecue sauces
By golly! We stopped there once. Beautiful place, friendly, and an almost overwhelming array of things to buy. Would love to go back. However, it can be found in many local stores these days so I don't have to go so far to get me some. I recommend stopping by if you're close enough to stop. A lot plenty of time for browsing. Lol. 😊
Love Louisberg cider mill!! It’s about 30 mins south of me and we go every year for the pumpkin patch, apple cider, hard cider, and fresh apple donuts made every day 🤤 their disposal of apple mush in the back fields is very interesting too 😂
My new favorite thing this year is to have a peanut butter cookie, then wash it down with a drink of cider. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it!
Love fresh cider and cinnamon-apple doughnuts from the mill! Every weekend all fall long we would stop and get cider and warm doughnuts. Then sit on the truck gate and make complete pigs of ourselves! Sitting there being pigs with the Michigan fall leaves coloring the background! Miss those days!
I've just learned so much in this video, as a non native english speaker, now I know that not all ciders are alcoholic beverages, also that tart is a flavor similar to sour, but sweeter and last but not least, there's something called apple butter that looks like a puree but it's not. Great day, thanks for such an informative process.
Always loved cider, its also a great use for apple that dont sell due to bruising or other damage. Still think i prefer normal apple juice though overall
I searched for a decent image of the label, and I found that they blurred out the address and website of the Louisburg Cedar Mill. Which is literally the only product in this video... and they show us where they were filming and everything throughout the whole video. We know it is in Louisburg Kansas, we KNOW it's the Louisburg Kansas Cedar Mill, like we watched the whole video and know everything about it. So why bother wasting time blurring out the address and website. That's like parading around someone's bank account and social number, but then blurring out their ears and not the face.
Huh the best Apple cider I have ever had was at the Apple Barn in Piegon Forge TN...... And there is nothing like apple butter for breakfast...............
I wonder what was so scandalous that it was deemed necessary to blur out the label a bit. The only thing I could think of is that they filmed it at a U.S. manufacturing location and somehow that conflicts with How It's Made being a Canadian production.
Actually, the cider mill is very much in business and is doing just fine. It’s a tourist destination and a brand sold in stores throughout northeastern Kansas.
Yeah, they pasteurize the cider to kill the yeast that'll make ethanol, but if you add bread yeast to the cider, you can intentionally make the alcohol...
I use a combination of apple cider, orange juice, water, and some spices for my turkey brine at Thanksgiving. I sink a turkey in my 5 gallon stainless steel pot for minimum of 24 hours with the brine after it cools. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
I’m not100 percent sure, but the piping used in the initial pumping process looked like PVC, which I believe should not be used in this fashion as it would contaminate the liquid.
I'd like you to find a clean factory that's in use. I work in pest control, I've never seen a commercial facility, outside of their office areas, that would be considered clean by residential standards. It's also going to depend on the area within the facility. I go to a cheese farm regularly, and while the room for making cheese is pretty clean, the area where the cows are milked could never qualify as clean, since it's a barn. I've seen some really nasty ones. Note: I would recommend never eating anything made by Wampler's.
I'm from Michigan where apple cider mills all over.......If you get a chance to drink fresh unpasteurized cider.....DO IT......ITS SOOOOO MUCH BETTER.......and don't get me started on hard cider.......numnum
ah, I thought the apple pumice after being separated was disposed of, but its nice to know that it serves as raw material in another manufacturing process to make apple butter
Moderation is key, sugar levels is what I’d be concerned with. It might be apple sugar but it’s still sweet. They say a glass of wine is great everyday but with that too, make sure your water intake is up to par. No soda or tea because it’s “made with water” drink honest to goodness uncloroninate, undistilled, clean filtered crystal clear cool water everyday. It keeps your kidneys, liver, pancreas, stomach, cells, & bladder clean of debris. It also helps keep your bowels running smooth too as lack of *PROPER* hydration your body will pull it back outta your poo. People might not like the taste but it’s *SO* necessary to keep your body happy. Drink Water!
For every glass of Apple cider you drink you must at all costs start running imediately with a bag full of cement in your arms, why you ask? for no reason ofc
My grandma LOVES Dixon Cider! She told me that back during the war she was working at a club near the military base and she'd have 3-4 Dixon Cider daily!
Factory food. I live in Concord NH. The purists grind the apples and place the mash on cheese cloth and press the daylights out of it. The cider mill workers bottle and chill it. I won't buy pasteurized cider. It really sucks.
