1:41 is called a "flow meter" it's actually used to calculate how much water is going into the machine. If it isn't receiving enough, the machine will stop heating in order to keep the machine safe. I want to add to this, if it's an automatic machine (meaning you can program the doses) the flowmeter then is also used to tell the machine's mother board how much water the grouphead is receiving and when to stop the brew.

Espresso is a coffee-brewing method of Italian origin, in which a small amount of nearly boiling water is forced under 9-10 bars of pressure through finely-ground coffee beans. Espresso coffee can be made with a wide variety of coffee beans and roast degrees. However Espresso does not mean made quickly but expressed as in pushed out.
@lidge1994

Excuse me, but I´d suggest you correct what has been said in the beginning of the video, as it´s very wrong. The gentleman´s argument regarding the machine´s type name is a common mistake. It´s called AND pronounced eSpresso (with the S instead of X) for one reason: it´s the passive past for "eSprimere", the italian verb for "to press" - as, in such machines, the water is pressed thru the coffee in the PRESSurized recipients. It might even be pronounced almost like eZpresso in some places in Italy. The fact that the coffee comes out in a relatively quick way, an eXpress way, it´s not only a desirable, but also a deliberated not-so-coincidence. Cheers! (with an irish coffee, of course!)

It’s funny how at the beginning they zoom into folding one metal sheet, but the further they go into the episode, the more and more everything magically appears out of nowhere and is just bolted on. Like at 3:46… where did these levers come from? And every time they show only 1 bolt going in for each part. I hope they use at least 2 or 3 bolts per item.

Did anyone else cringe at the use of power tools to do up a number of the fixtures without first doing a couple turns by hand to make sure they aren’t cross threaded, might just be how I was taught never to use power tools until you’re 100% sure they aren’t cross threaded 🤷‍♂️
@Engineer9736
@Engineer9736 2 года назад
It’s production work.. i guess for the very low chance that they would crossthread a bolt with 40hrs/week experience, it’s probably cheaper to just toss any demolished part out instead of spending time on such low chance issue for every single bolt.

At 3:14 can someone more competent in the matter tell me why the tank is made of copper? Are they worried about galvanic corrosion with other metals in the system? Also, the fittings are all brass. I thought brass was not a food contact material, due to the lead?

@CadenVekk 2 года назад
Espresso Machine Tech here. Mainly for heat and electrical conductivity. May seem strange, but there's a metal stick called a level probe that juts into the boiler a little less than halfway. When the water in the boiler touches that probe, it cuts off the circuit that turns the pump on by directing that electricity through the water to the boiler itself, which is connected to ground, so it stops filling with water at that level to give the steam some room. The fittings and pipes are typically copper and brass, and its beneficial to have as many parts be made of the same or similar metals so that it all expands and contracts at the same or similar rate. The brass fittings really don't touch the water as the copper pipes compress against eachother because of the force of the screwthreads. If everything is connected correctly, the water only touches the copper. Though, the pump is brass, the flowmeters arent copper, and the groupheads are usually chromed brass. Plus, copper has antimicrobial properties... so that helps too.
@davidfuller581
@davidfuller581 2 года назад
Generally, no worries about galvanic corrosion as this particular machine is all brass and copper. Plus, lead free brass exists that is food safe. Other manufacturers use 304 stainless steel for the boilers and group heads.

This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. ru-vid.comUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.

But.. how is it made? Is espresso made from water and pressurizing the coffee together?
@sickbale
@sickbale 3 года назад
Espresso is made by forcing very hot water under high pressure through finely ground compacted coffee. Tamping down the coffee promotes the water's even penetration through the grounds.[7] This process produces an almost syrupy beverage by extracting both solid and dissolved components. The crema[8][9] is produced by emulsifying the oils in the ground coffee into a colloid, which does not occur in other brewing methods. There is no universal standard defining the process of extracting espresso,[10] but several published definitions attempt to constrain the amount and type of ground coffee used, the temperature and pressure of the water, and the rate of extraction.[11][12] Generally, one uses an espresso machine to make espresso. The act of producing a shot of espresso is often called "pulling" a shot, originating from lever espresso machines, with which a barista pulls down a handle attached to a spring-loaded piston, which forces hot water through the coffee at high pressure. Today, however, it is more common for an electric pump to generate the pressure.
