Great video with lots of ideas for the semi-skilled craftsman, and goals of learning for those of us who want to be much more efficient with the use of our tools. Love the way you created all the jigs and tools rather than just using the lathe alone.

Great video man! However, I must suggest that you make a push stick for your table saw and refrain from wearing your sleaves down. Especially since you're batching these things out. All it takes is a little complacency and you can get injured bad.

@@GetRealwithMike I give my tools names; the routers are called nibbles, and the circular saw is called fingers - it just sort of reminds me!!

Any particular reason for cutting the grooves down the length in the block after cutting off the corners? I would think having the groove cut in block form would make it easier, given that it would be a more stable surface area. Also, I'm pretty sure if you're using properly sized push sticks, you could also just set the fence on the table saw once and cut your slats faster. Or a cross cut sled made specifically for it; which if you're making that many, would be worth the effort.

Hey man, if you could use a conical router bit for the grooves where you use walnut strips, you could use the same triangular section discards from making pre-forming your blank - those sticks you discard when making an octagon out of your square blanks. However, you'll lose the contrast in the final product! Give it a thought. Great streamlined operation, though!

While I usually love woodworking videos I must admit: I just shortcutted to the end hoping to see some raviolis get rolled out. Did not disappoint. Gave it a like, sorry I didn't watch it all.

I like your product a lot. It looks great and I love wooden kitchen accessories.I also love the workflow that you have and the router attachment for the lathe :) My only concern is, how hard it is to clean this roller. It's inevitable that when you make raviolis sometimes cheese or any other filling is gonna drip out and stick to the roller. It must be a pain in the a** to clean all the crevices. You could maybe make a jig to make grooves directly into the octagonal piece with a radius mill and make pockets with smooth walls and radii instead of those corners...just an idea! :)
@couchpotatoe244
@couchpotatoe244 7 лет назад
Man, you must be selling those like crazy if you are making that many! I've been making cutting boards and these would go along perfectly. I saw a video the other day of how to make these things, but yours is definitley a better looking kitchen tool. Keep up the good work! I won't mention your fingers since you already got the memo haha.

Nice idea but I just don't think that the pasta in the ravioli will seal correctly. There is no pasta to pasta contact because you filled the entire sheet of dough with filling. Correct me if I am wrong. Just wondering.

First of all, very nice work and great shop. Although I do the same things, it scares me to see others get that close to blades & router bits. Before I get close I think about it and make sure I can't move my fingers any closer (by holding 2 fingers over the fence, for example). On the other hand, I've never seen a private shop keep the guards over a table saw. The only severe table saw incident I saw was at a professional shop and there was a freak accident where a friend cut off all the fingers on his left hand. It took >18 hours of microsurgery to reattach them. A guard wouldn't have prevented that. Please be careful, amigo.
@2300Kenzie
@2300Kenzie 7 лет назад
About the worst is the embarrassment of having an accident. Like I said, I do the same as you but it is terrifying to see someone else get that close. Respect the hazard and have a plan in case for disaster. I'll be more careful as well. I just subscribed, so I'll be watching. Oh yeah, now I need to build a center marker punch for turning like yours. Thanks!

Woodworking numptie here - Why do you hit the workpiece on the end right at the beginning?
@teddysalad8999
@teddysalad8999 4 года назад
sooo, how do you keep the cheese out of the seams, so they seal properly... that why all the older forms were all inverted....
@Chemeleon15
@Chemeleon15 4 года назад
Teddy Salad You just push hard enough that the cheese travels forward to the next compartment. The moisture of the cheese helps the pasta stick to itself instead of water/egg wash. In a normal scenario the pasta won’t seal because you have two wet things(cheese and water) in the way.
@teddysalad8999
@teddysalad8999 4 года назад
no, wrong, also how do you get the air out so they dont explode
@Chemeleon15
@Chemeleon15 4 года назад
Teddy Salad You can’t tell me I’m wrong if you don’t even have an idea as to why it works. The only time dough doesn’t seal to itself is when it’s too dry or there’s too much liquid. The cheese provides just enough liquid to merge the two doughs when pressed. Rolling slowly reduces the amount of air that gets trapped and the cheese moving from one end to the other helps as well. The cheese builds up in front on the roller leaving no room for air. 5:20 He presses out most of the air by hand 5:24 excess cheese Bulges in front of the roller making sure every ravioli is full of cheese and no air.
