Beware Europe! Italy is spending again... But is this a mistake or a stroke of genious? Italy is currently going through a period of economic slowdown, as they have several times before in the past. But each historic slowdown was followed by a period of unprecedented, record-breaking growth. Can Italy do it again?

Political video for the 2024 European elections.😏 If the problem is the large deficit, then what would the program tell us about Japan and the USA? Italy's problem isn't the deficit, it's that it doesn't have sovereignty over its currency like the UK and other countries. Furthermore, the Euro is controlled by Germany and France. The EU doesn't give money to any country, it just collects it and redistributes it the way Brussels wants. When the EU lends money, it charges interest, which is not always advantageous compared to other sources.

Well Italy's economy Is Failing. It's Failing in Any Way at all to live up to the 'beliefs' of people who say negative things about it. For example, just a couple days ago the OECD reported that Italy's per capita Household Income, otherwise known as 'discretionary' income, rose by 3.4% in the 1st quarter of 2024, easily leading all G7 countries, and mainly all others as well. In % terms, that's 250% more than in Germany, who was second, then nearly 700% more than Canada and France, 1,150% more than Britain, and a 'mere' 1,700% more than the United States. That's pretty amazing I'd say, and not just for this 'one quarter' either, it has been trending 'similarly' for many quarters now, totalling years at this point. Now GDP of the U.S. grew at 1.3% in the 1st quarter, and all the other countries GDP grew at the same or higher than Italy's 0.2%. Point being, Italy was easily #1, and Germany was #2. So it again shows how GDP is an extremely meaningless stat, as to how all the citizen's 'financial well being' truthfully is. Because while the U.S. 'economy' grew at over 600% that of Italy's, in comparison, financial well being of the 'people' of Italy went up 1,700% more than for the American people. Shocking, but accurate. It's these kinds of very Meaningful stats that lead to articles like this. Deutsche Welle, April 3rd, Headline: "Italy Is Overtaking Germany As Europe's Economic Powerhouse." Or like this. Also April 3rd, The Telegraph: Headline: "Meloni's Italy Is Doing What Basket-Case Britain Could Only Dream Of." These are two big mainstream News Publications from Bonn, Germany, and London, England "themselves", that say this. Now I have been hearing this for the 'better part' of over 50 years. So I might displace you as the richest person in Italy if I had a Euro for every time....😂😂

At 6:36 the narrator says workers demand higher prices. Workers never demand higher prices, they demand higher wages. When they get higher wages manufacturing costs rise and then prices rise. This is measured as inflation. Why the narrator substituted "prices" for "wages" in the cyclical diagram is beyond me.

Everyone is so dramatic about Italy killing is own economy, Italy dying, Italy being the basket case etc etc. In reality Italy is doing well. Italy has the second highest growth in the g7 after the US in GDP per Capita since COVID. And that's just because the US is making massive debts to grow is economy. GDP per Capita in PPP is up 21% since pre COVID. Inflation is low at 0.7%. Unemployment is below France at 7.2% and lowering still. Investments are up, export is up almost 50% in the last three years. If it wasn't for energy and food prices and the war in Ukraine we'd be booming.

Italy's gdp per capita is growing faster tha other developed countries because italy started out at a lower point. And italy having 2nd highest gdp growth in the g7 is more a result of the other countries doing badly than italy doing good. I mean it's only like 0,7% or something

A Belgian from Germany wrote: "Italy is like that girl who has the most talent of all, because she was born beautiful, more beautiful than all. It is the most ingenious one, which invents a thousand things, because it is full of resources. He knows how to discuss history, the sea, the mountains, he knows about food, good wine, dialects, painters, sculptors, writers, excellence in science, there is nothing he doesn't know. And when this beautiful and talented girl trips and falls, the audience of losers cheers. It's the anger of the poor jealous ones, the ones in the dark, because she's still beautiful even when she falls to the ground. Italy is a girl with a 12 heel boot, which no one knows how to wear better than her...just time to get up again."

I think the Italian GDP will keep growing at a faster pace than the economies of Japan, the UK or Germany, at least until 2026-2027. Why? Well, for several reasons: there's no housing bubble in Italy, the wealth of Italian families has grown in 2023, tourism is back, EU recovery funds are improving the existing railway/port/digital networks, Rome will host the Jubilee in 2025 while Milan will host the Winter Olympics in 2026, car manufacturing will improve thanks to a new deal with Stellantis (the company bought a Chinese EV manufacturer), the country has diversified its natural gas supply, there's a scheme to let around 450k non-EU migrants into the country in 2024-2026 to address job shortages, the luxury industry is strong and keeps on growing, and new R&D hubs (which include: MIND - Milano Innovation District, 3Sun gigafactory in Catania, VeniSIA in Venice, the 1.45 bn euro City of Aerospace hub in Turin) will finally come to fruition or will keep expanding their footprint in the coming years.

@mariovallanzasca9454

I think so too. I'm generally pessimistic about Italy's future, but this time things might be different. In addition to what you just said, there is also a more clear geopolitical vision to leverage Italy's position. They are investing in natural gas extraction, pipelines, and LNG terminals with the goal of becoming an energy and logistical hub for the rest of Europe. The same goes for trade. Italy is investing to increase its port capacity and railway transportation capabilities. Right now ships from Asia go all the way to Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany to unload their goods, but if port and railway capacity improves it will become cheaper and faster to unload the goods in southern Italy and send them to the rest of Europe from there. On top of that, Italy will also build a bridge to connect Italy to Sicily. All of these projects will give a massive boost to the south

This video is based on stereotypes and clichés, typical of those who don't know the country and live on the other side of the world. It seems that Italy lives on tourism and sun but in reality it is the second industrial power in Europe after Germany and the seventh in the world. I'll leave you some real data: The economy of Italy is a highly developed social market economy.[28] It is the third-largest national economy in the European Union, the second-largest manufacturing industry in Europe (7th-largest in the world),[29] the 8th-largest economy in the world by nominal GDP, and the 12th-largest by GDP (PPP). Italy is a founding member of the European Union, the Eurozone, the OECD, the G7 and the G20;[30] it is the eighth-largest exporter in the world, with $611 billion exported in 2021. Its closest trade ties are with the other countries of the European Union, with whom it conducts about 59% of its total trade. The largest trading partners, in order of market share in exports, are Germany (12.5%), France (10.3%), the United States (9%), Spain (5.2%), the United Kingdom (5.2%) and Switzerland (4.6%).[31] In the post-World War II period, Italy saw a transformation from an agricultural-based economy which had been severely affected by the consequences of the World Wars, into one of the world's most advanced nations,[32] and a leading country in world trade and exports. According to the Human Development Index, the country enjoys a very high standard of living. According to The Economist, Italy has the world's 8th highest quality of life.[33] Italy owns the world's third-largest gold reserve,[34] and is the third-largest net contributor to the budget of the European Union. Furthermore, the advanced country private wealth is one of the largest in the world.[35] In terms of private wealth, Italy ranks second, after Hong Kong, in private wealth to GDP ratio. Italy is the world's seventh-largest manufacturing country,[36] characterised by a smaller number of global multinational corporations than other economies of comparable size and many dynamic small and medium-sized enterprises, notoriously clustered in several industrial districts, which are the backbone of the Italian industry. Italy is a large manufacturer[37] and exporter[38] of a significant variety of products. Its products include machinery, vehicles, pharmaceuticals, furniture, food and clothing.[39] Italy has a significant trade surplus. The country is also well known for its influential and innovative business economic sector, an industrious and competitive agricultural sector (Italy is the world's largest wine producer),[40] and manufacturers of creatively designed, high-quality products: including automobiles, ships, home appliances, and designer clothing. Italy is the largest hub for luxury goods in Europe and the third luxury hub globally.[41][42] Italy has a strong cooperative sector, with the largest share of the population (4.5%) employed by a cooperative in the EU.[43

I don't doubt the numbers but the average Italian household cannot Beat the inflation rate and have consistently gotten poorer. Individual businesses got destroyed in times of pandemic and lots of them swallowed up by big corporations. Like the walmart effect. Purchasing power has systematically gone down since the introduction of the Euro and priced has gone up leading to poverty in the big cities with increased gentrification. Meanwhile low income jobs have been swallowed up for a larger part by immigrants leading to extremely high youth unemployment. All in all. Italy on a macro side hasn't been doing bad at all. But who is making the money did change. The rich got a lot richer. The poor a bit poorer and that makes Italy a candidate for an Argentinian type Revolution or economic crisis which has led to a slow growing aversion towards immigration. Nationalism and the rise to power of right and extreme right.

Actually the Italian economy grew its GDP about 10% in the last 8 years depsite losing over 2 million in population. Unemployment is at 7%, the lowest in 15 years. Default rates are at historical low. Since Covid Italy grew faster than Eurozone. This decline story is mainly from 2008 to 2015. Italy is dying, it is in a horribly and disgustingly atrocious way and we Italians know it very well 😊 However Giorgia Meloni has not been far right since she was 14 years old and was active in "Alleanza Giovani", a neo-fascist party (we are clearly talking about the student section) the fact is that in Italy all right-wing people are called "fascists" , but it's just a ridiculous thing left to us by communist semantics, Giorgia Meloni is pro-American, pro-Israeli and basically liberal, there's nothing far-right about her.

While I like your videos, this one demonstrated some glaring gaps in background and economics. Your post could have been answered with one word, currency. You mention the Lira but tie it to FDI and other points. The answer here is simple, when Italy devalued its currency, Italy's exports became far more competitive than their European neighbors. Do a graph showing Lira to Sterling and see how well it matches to these "economic miracles". This also answers what has gone wrong. The EURO currency impacts Italy perhaps more than any other country in the EU save for maybe Greece and Cyprus. Italy can't devalue its currency and is now stuck. Italy has low R&D, investment in equipment, and a bureaucracy that is the envy of Brussels. Now combine that with corruption, a very low birth rate, and huge retiree costs. It is therefore almost impossible to imagine the "macroeconomic" trends that will save Italy from becoming a smaller and smaller share of the European economy.

Check how the economic ups and downs correlate with political right- and left- government and parliament. Of course, there is almost always a shift of a few years in the effects that a government controls, but the state economic result is serious for the Italian centre-left movement. Unfunded government reforms with increased pensions and such, increased government costs while increasing taxes and making it more difficult for business have given Italy economic recessions. The reverse has occurred when governments focused on a market economy and a state economy in balance. Even the mad mad Berlusconi seems to govern Italy much better than the socialist party led by Craxi. Peoples votes decide their future...

Well if Argentina, Brazil ecc have economic problems they know where they are needed 🤷🏻‍♂️ Then the Italians would prefer economic stagnation to importing certain "diversity" Italy is the center of catholicism (the Vatican is not a real country and the pope is required to speak Italian..... ) and have zero intentions on changing it. Wages are low in Italy so don't put that as a bad point even in countries with lower gdp wages in certain fields are higher, also wage growth increase consumption that in turn increase the economy. Then I'm am waiting for the so called wage inflation because I can assure you Italy and the laws of economy don't really know each other. 😂😂😂

It's not just Italy that is in this mess the whole Western system is in trouble, the river of wealth that used to flow one way now is flowing everywhere new kids on the block started to Digg and the water started to go their way and now they are digging hard and fast, China, India, Brazil they have large populations who test the good stuff that use to go one way, now they are competing for all resources driving the prices higher and because they did not colonise others they get the best treatment they buy first and the rest has to wait, that's the reality, what used to be made in Italy now it's made in China and India and the quality is good too.
