Smash 456 You're right about the Pokemon screen part. They changed it because of the Pokemon's names flashing very fast due to the Porygon episode incident. They also went back to some older episodes and toned down the flashing effects, noticeably in the episode with Lt. Surge.

Kinda. I think it's more like "Pokemon, I'll get you!". It's confusing because Japanese doesn't grammatically distinguish between singular and plural nor the present and future tense, for some reason the lyrics say " *_is_* a get [capture]" rather than " *_do_* a get [capture]", and because my Japanese sucks...

GET is a noun in Japanese. Proof to this is the "da ze" that's added afterwords -- it's a conjugation of desu which should only follow nouns/pronouns. Also, sentences in Japanese should end with a verb -- more reason why GET is not the same as the verb "to get" in English. So a GET in Japanese is the *act* of earning, or literally getting, something. The closer translation for the song lyrics would be "It's a Pokemon catch!" Pretty far meaning from "Gotta Catch 'em All."

Fun fact: The girl is actually a LASS (trainer class), which is calles "Miniskirt" in the japanese version. The youngster class is called "Shorts", so both the boys and girls are named for their iconic clothing. Oh, and the japanese use "GET" as a verb, ie. Pikachu GET means "(I) got a Pikachu". Its the same with Super Mario Sunshine, where it says SHINE GET in the japanese version.

Erm... 'Get' is also a verb in English... The issue is that the Japanese don't conjugate it in the English way (get, got, etc), not that they use it as a verb.

To be honest I personally love the 4kids intro but when I watch the japanese intro it feels more kid friendly and takes me back to the days of pokemon tcg on the gameboy. Surprisingly I never saw the japanese intro as a kid so to have nostalgia with that too must show its a very well made intro.

Hmm I've always thought the girl in the miniskirt is Giselle who appeared as a one-time character in an early episode, a random trainer from the Lass class or a girl representing "purity" because in the English opening, when she showed up, the lyrics says "a heart so true". I've watched and heard the Japanese opening before but since I don't understand a thing, I thought the scream thing just meant the girls are going crazy for Pokémon since it was so big at the time.

I remember hearing the japanese theme way back when the series first aired. However, I can't pinpoint as to where--the show itself (which is the 4kids dub), the Entei movie, the first movie, or the first movie's OST (which I happened to borrow a CASETTE TAPE of back in the day). The first line "POKEMON, GETTO DAZE!" stuck with me all these years, and the melody itself is in my opinion catchier and better sounding than the one they used in the western release.

The second verse of Mezase Pokémon Master is largely the same as the first but with different spoken dialogue. After the second skirt line, the girl says, 'You're too persistent!' I think it's kind of cool.

HOW did I actually discover the oiginal Japanese opening with the Sun and Moon one. Oo Also funny that in the English versions, it's the XY series' first opening that is basically a remix of the original English one. As Japan had closed its borders for other countries for a long time, when they incorporated western technology and clothing, they lacked the words to describe them. Some words were made by combining Kanjis together (so that the word is self-explanatory), and some were just English or French words adapted a tad bit so it was easy to pronounce them. Because of this, there is a habit to use English words in Japan. And then we got video games and irl games in game centers. I'm totally assuming this, but maybe the word "GET" was normalized by crane games? If they didn't use "GET" they would've had to use "imprisoning"... but that sounded too cruel I suppose.

The first time I ever watched Pokemon it was in Cantonese. It also had a Cantonese theme tune. But because I live in the UK I also watched the English version. And since I was able to learn about Pokemon months before anyone else in the UK I was responsible for bring the craze to school which was pretty cool.

Different animators, different approach, i don't have the source right now, but they said that the SuMo team liked Pokémon about +10 years but not anymore, they're doing this because they needed job at the time, and they like when people hate the new style because that people give free publicity.

JoJo_Baoh Its just that he always looked like ash from indigo league just a little different and updated but in sun and moon he looks totally fucked up

Teo Laurich anime-only pokemon fan, eh? Sun and moon anime is the closest thing to ingame artwork and design yet. I'm actually glad they changed it. Previous blocky sharp art style looked to rough and too cheap.

I am learning how common it was back in 90s when anime being released in US has had way different intros from Japanese original intros and alot of that was cause of how anime had americanizations since it was new and made it to understand the audiences of back then

As I was saying on a episode of yugioh by Censored Gaming. Every japanese original is better then dumbed down versions of it (english versions or the studios behind it) they make the shows less understandable by removing stuff/changing stuff for what they think are better alternatives.

The english intro is what I grew up with, but that japanese one is really catchy! Never managed to completely catch them skirt pokemon though....

It seems to me like perhaps the show was intended for a wider audience, but 4kids censored it down to ages 2-5. And the theme song here is an excellent example.

I still like the 4kids version intro 👍 the song & lyrics r super catchy that became very popular quickly ! also the intro was a bit cleaner better in a way ! (for my opinion) anyways its also good to see different things once in awhile !
