He’s an African Cameroonian who wanted to represent his European coloniser France and ended up representing the American country he moved to at 16. Make it make sense to me. Joel just wanted to win something. If I was Cameroonian I’d be pissed. He only wanted to go to France because they are one of the best teams outside of America, then he realised “oh wait I can skip straight to the top” Cameroon isn’t even a bad team. If he had any dog in him he could along with siakam have a great Olympics and fiba with Cameroon and make your home fans happy at the same time (now he’s just getting criticised by American media)
You know very little about Cameroon. Cameroon is essentially a neo colonial french colony. Their currency is the African Franc controlled by france, they have a 91 yearold dictator who has been in power for nearly half a century supported by guess who, France. I wouldnt want to play for Cameroon either

And do you want the list of American actions in Africa and worldwide? I assume I don’t need to. Basically what I’m saying is, how can you pass on your bloodline to represent TWO oppressive nations towards again your bloodline. All for some red stained gold. Passionless.
Let’s be real, Embiid made his decision to increase his chances to get a medal. Cause if he felt Paris had a chance to win gold he would’ve stayed and not left for the USAMNT.
French made it seem like embiid was the only center needed for team USA. With or without Embiid, team USA was going to do well with the players they have this Olympic competition. They have AD, bam, Lebron etc.
Embid was the deciding factor, if he had played for France France would've won it all, in fact without Embid USA would've lost against Serbia in the Semi, Embid literally carried USA against Serbia.
@@caninexEmbiid chose the U.S. over France because of the length of time he had lived in the country and the fact that his son was born in the United States.
Except he expressed his wish to play for france. The only one who knows the truth of this story is embiid. Did he really want to play for france to keep his options open if the US didnt pick him or did he really wanted to play for france because of family? At the time when he expressed wish to play with france, he wasnt an all star yet, saddled with injuries upon injuries, he wasnt sure if the us would want him (speculation)

I left my country when I was 17 and love, respect and appreciate the country where I live now but if I could play for and represent any country it would be the one where I was born. Over here, I am just another immigrant bettering country’s GDP and in return allowed to live here, very fair and pragmatic. People who I belong to and where my hart belongs is my native land. If it wasn’t for my ancestors who built my home country I would not be here therefore, if I owe anything to anyone, it’s the country where I am from. Embiid is a coward, plain and simple. People of Cameroon, just like people of any country around the world, are good and worthy of having an amazing athlete represent them internationally. I would respect him way more if he finished competing in the group stage with Cameroon than winning gold with USA.
You dont know nothing about Cameroon or African countries in general, if you did you would understand the reasoning why he choose not to play for cameroon
Not surprising from a player acting like they won the series after leading 2-0 in the playoffs against the Raptors then crying at the end of game 7 after Kawhi banked a buzzer-beater 😂
@@aebidonThat was his best chance ever to win a 🏆 with that 76ers team/roster. That 76ers starting lineup was nasty af yo. It was honestly being compared as better than the 73-9 Warriors with 🐍 KD! The only thing that bothers me is that, basketball wise, I would’ve liked to see Wemby, Gobert, and Embiid on the same team at the same time lol. Other than that, he ain’t really American or French. He got citizenship from both, but what he did to get French citizenship is grimy. They should revoke it.
@@caninex Agree. Fiba rules and the way referees won't let him get away with some offensive fouls and dirtyish plays also could be a mitigation to the added value he should bring to team USA. As a French, I enjoyed to imagine he will continue to struggle with this in the case we play against them.😁
It was no deception for us and the entire country doesn't care about a mercenary who holds 3 or 4 passeports and prefer the greener grass instead of his country. He could have played with Siakam, and others but have slapped Cameroonians in the face to favor his own interest . no drama in France, we really don't care, but I guess the Cameroon do .
The majority of Cameroonians in Cameroon don't even know who Embid is, they never heard of him simply because they just don't give a crap about basketball in Cameroon.
Ok let me make it clear As a french, i don't care if wembiid or any other player wants to play for US team, but this guy just lied to us. Now we gave him free heathcare, french passport and he thanks us by playing our rival in the olympics final. Great play, Joel
@@xaviermoyssenalvarez4419 you may have not watched the game against Serbia then , Jokic couldn’t stop Embiid.. as a cameroonian as much as i would have felt proud to see him play for CMR i still think he took the right decision because our team level is very low and the country only like literally only obsesed with football(soccer) and will not have gotten any grace nor any accomplishment. but they fact he switches allegences like flip flop heck thats bad should have accepted france but cmon he knows too well usa are stacked already and he wont even shine under the radar heck even be spotted.
Its not only that. Cameroon like other african nations ask for money for these big athletes to play on the team. They literally ask from the players to build houses or give money to the goverment. Good or bad, i dont know. But i i know they dont respect players, they just respect their money.
@@tsaxpinogargaliaris you right I remember an article came out about Mbappe, the French soccer player. I think the source was his father but mbappe wanted to rep cameroon first but they asked him to pay. He wasn't a star yet though so I don't know if they'd ask the same from Joel. To me it makes perfect sense why he didn't rep france so many French players didn't like it and were vocal about it but none of that happened with U.S players.. plus he doesn't live in france meaning it's uncharted territory for him. Just from thins video it seems like they would've made it real hard for him.
It is just embiid honestly. Luka Giannis Joker or whoever could have easily get the American passport and play for the US but they got pride. Rather loosing with your country than winning with an Flagg on your chest that you don’t represent.

For anyone saying he joined USA just for gold, He probably did but you still can’t take away his awesome games in the Olympics .. he had some killer games specially vs Serbia
Good job here ! Thank you for your serious work about that sad story. I'm glad he finally choose to play for the US : we, as French, don't need a mercenary like him, with no respect for his word, himself, the country, the french basketball federation, and all the people who have to wait for years to earn the french nationality. I feel he would have brought more problems than otherwise, and if I had to choose, I'd have preferred a good silver medal (even it will be difficult with so many good team this time) to a gold one which would have had a taste of cheating. I also prefer to admire our new jewel, Victor beautifully playing alongside Rudy like their first time against Germany, Rudy with his offensive limitations, but who is always here and play with his heart to make us proud of our team.
Thanks for watching and for your perspective. Unfortunate that Embiid led the French astray and bailed on them in the end. Him, Gobert, and Wemby would probably been the greatest defensive front court ever in international play
@@caninex "would probably been" ... on the paper, for sure, and it would've been something so exciting to watch at least one time, but it is what it is !
Neither should be an option, he should just play for Cameroon and if they can't qualify that's their problem. It would be cool to see Serbia and Jokic upset team usa.
Not really because theres no way all 3 would be on the court at the same time. Last thing you would want to do is sacrifice perimeter defense against a team with Steph and KD
More than enough reason imo. Why play with players who don't want you, like wtf. USA is the easiest choice. That's where he grew his talent and skills anyway
Literally it’s so annoying seeing them mad cause bro y’all didn’t even want him on the team in the first place so what’s the problem with him switching.
why you hating on Durant.. you're probably worthless yourself.. have you won anything in life i dont think so!! stupid remarks get stupid answers!! whoever agreed to this comment is just as worthless!!
I don't think Embiid's actions are about basketball but about getting French citizenship, he's a native of a former French colony and people don't realise how important a European passport is in the psyche of people from the developing world & the opportunities it opens for him & his family - he's not a mercenary and probably would want to represent Cameroon, but it can't compete unlike Greece for Giannis or Serbia for Jokic with solid programmes, so just chose the US in the end whilst getting the French citizenship he always wanted, simple really
A superstar like him doesn't really need citizenship. He'll travel the same, pay the same taxes, so unless he commits a crime and flees to France this passport won't change his life.
It does show a bit of a problem with the Olympics (and for that matter the World Cup of Football and some other competitions). The Olympics is supposed to have the best athletes in the world but you can be the top athlete in the world in your sport and still never get a chance to go to the Olympics if your country's team is not that strong and never qualifies for the Olympics. I can see why he doesn't want to play for France and can't really see a reason why he would play for France and I can see how he feels ties to the United States after living their so long but it seems overkill for not only players who grew up in the United States to play for the American team but also players who grew up somewhere else and then went to the United States half way through high school or when they started university. Virtually every Canadian player went to the United States half way through high school so just as much as Embiid could claim a connection to the United States and decide to play for the American team. Imagine if SGA and Murray also decided to play for the American team. The American team already has such a huge advantage given its huge population. It shouldn't also be getting players who grew up in another country and then moved to the United States to finish high school or to go to university once they had already shown they had great basketball talent. It's like a European hockey player who moved to Canada to play junior hockey deciding to play for Canada instead of for his home country. Canada's national hockey team doesn't need that help and doesn't deserve that help. In the same way the American national basketball team doesn't need Embiid's help and doesn't deserve Embiid's help. (though surprisingly Embiid has apparently not looked very good on the court so far) Maybe, just as the Olympics had a refugee team it should also have a teams of top athletes from countries that have no hope of making the Olympics in some team sports - in other words Embiid and Siakim could play on a team of players from a variety of countries that are weak in basketball.
He must pursue Cameron to build a basketball team to participate in the world cup and so he might show his talent to the world that can win against other countries.
Your hard at hearing apparently, dude asked the president of France for citizenship to play for France. They were mad after he joined the US that they were calling for his citizenship to be revoked

Bro should’ve play for Cameroon because he came to the states damn near when he was 18 him and Pascal Siakam was enough to make the Cameroon team good enough
I have lost respect for embiid..but then..he is just someone who plays great basketball and gets paid well..no one expected him to be more than that...
That’s hard… he got no French Connection only interest. Besides, in this video it wasn’t mentioned if he stayed in France for years to qualify as a citizen. Everything for him is because of basketball.
To be fair he should never be allowed to represent USA. He is a U.S citizen not an American. He should represent his country of birth or that of his parents or grandparents. He should represent Cameroon. Imagine what impact this could have on raising profile, resources and potentially highlighting future talent that would never get scouted without media interest. Embiid chose the U.S for glory, not for the honour of singing the national anthem of your country with hand on heart and flag. His children can represent the U S if they were born stateside or gheir mother is an American.
He live more time in America than Cameroun and to be honest this whole country have only US citizen. The real american are in this place you call "reserve"

I was very confused about this as well to the point where when I first heard this that I thought they meant he was playing for team France. He shouldn't be playing at all , it does feel like he is just trying to get an easy medal.
My thing is The Olympics used to be the all around Greatest Amateur Athletics Competition , Now it's open to already established professionals , I wish they went back to the way it was when if you earned a penny playing you were not eligible.

It would have been a disaster if he went to play for France. Looks like there are too many personalities and opinions. USA Basketball embraced him fully and both parties understood the assignment.
