I was only 8 years old in 1976, but I have vivid memories of the 4th of July celebrations. I am happy that I am able to remember that special 200 year anniversary of America.
Born too late to celebrate the bicentennial and I don't know if I'll live long enough to see the tricentennial. Oh well, guess I just have to hope for an awesome 250 year celebration. Quarter of a millennium is pretty neat milestone.
@@stevethomas-cc5lz I share your fears exactly. U.S. history no longer is seen as something to praise or celebrate. Any expressions of patriotism or positive interpretations of our past will become controversial, politicized, & attacked immediately. Whatever events ARE planned will be downplayed & localized with no national coverage. Communities should expect ridicule and/or zero-publicity from the media. I don't think we can expect even a brief fireworks display anywhere this go-round.
I was 5 yrs old but I vividly remember the cookouts, parades, and the huge fireworks ,we even had bicentennial home decor, dishes ,it was something I'll never forget
I remember as a ten-year-old sitting on the hill with my family near the Arch in St. Louis. There was a young couple sitting next to us. They were eating ready-made frosting out of a container, and I remember hearing "Afternoon Delight" playing from their transistor radio.
I was 12 and have GREAT memories of this time. This was when America a much different place, a better place. My mother made costumes and dressed the part for a parade in our town. Then we all went to the town baseball field and watch wonderful fireworks. These celebrations went on for several weeks and I’m so glad I lived back when things were so much better than what they are today. God bless our country and God bless this new generation.
@@footballguy263 Boomer, eh? You're generation has indemnified itself to a much poorer America. Funny you think that "boomer" is some sort of insult... It's not, it's a compliment that we love to hear. We're the last Americans left. Your generation has nothing, and you have nobody to blame but yourselves. Ok zoomer?
And also the Freedom Train, In addition to ships and planes being painted in patriotic colors, Ross Rowland who was a NY stock broker created the American Freedom Train pulled by steam locomotives 🚂 to pull artifacts across the country
I was naturalized a citizen by Pres. Ford (got to shake his hand and sit in the front row by Dick Cheney) on that day at Monticello- it was a great day!
When I watch this and I think of 2020 it’s is saddening. I remember that great year 1976 and traveling the country when I was 14 years old with my family from Florida to Massachusetts. The pride and patriotism was everywhere. Now all I can think about is WTF HAPPENED TO US?
dead fish tell no tales It was a better time my friend..I was 11 at the time and the whole year building up to that day was an exciting time. If this were to happen today there would be a bunch of moronic protests taking place across the country.
Schnipp08 So sorry you have to live in a globalist, shit hole country that got their ass severely beat twice by the States. Now go grab your copy of Mein Kampf and fuck yourself with it peasant.
I look at this footage and I bow my head in sadness. How did we get from this celebration and appreciation to storming the Capitol? I just pray that we can get through these dark days and become better for this. 😢🙏🇺🇸
Or how about pulling down statues of George Washington, etc.? Now our kids are taught to despise this country. Heck, I've even seen some wanting the World War II generation "canceled". Absolute insanity.
@@hawkeyeten2450 you haven’t seen anything about WW2 vets being canceled. Also, clown, no one’s being taught that’s America. They are simply NO LONGER being told WHITE MAN LIES about how “great” we are. Fragile ass white folks….
Great holiday. We had a big block party. We had a beautiful day in NJ. We went to the freedom train and excellent fireworks for the time. I had alot of fun.
If you were a child or adult in this time I feel you have a different perception on this nation and its people. Those born after seem lost and confused.
Things are sure changed since 1976 seems like this next election will seal the Fate of this country hopefully we haven't lost it already where we can't get it back on track.
When the US was founded, the Britain was the Kingdom of Great Britain. In 1801, it joined with Ireland to become the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and after 1922, it was the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, so its a different name. China isn't even close to being the same country it was when the US became an independent country as China was called the Qing Dynasty and was an imperial dynasty, eventually becoming a republic in 1912, and then a communist state after 1949. The France of today also isn't even close to the France of 1776 as France was a monarchy at the time that eventually got overthrown and replaced by many different republics until we got the France of today. Russia was the Russian empire at the time of American independence and the Russian monarchy got overthrown by communists in 1917 and became the Soviet Union which eventually collapsed in 1991, creating the Russia of today. All of the countries you've listed have changed significantly ever since American independence and experienced major government changes.
I imagine Britain would be the oldest major continuing nation. Although the others you listed are older, their political systems, country names, regimes, etc have all changed, while Britain and Americas have not
