Why would he mention 808s? This is Kanye Wests influence on the 2010s not the 2000s. He’s talking about a different decade for a reason there’s no point in mentioning his work outside of the 2010s. If he did then he’d be missing the point of the whole video.

It’s funny how they tried to cancel him after 808’s and heartbreak and it became such an influential album, then they tried to cancel him after the Taylor Swift incident and came back with one of the best albums then again after they tried to cancel him after Trump support and he came back by producing 5 albums with one of them getting a Grammy nomination and now he’s still going strong

This is the major reason I think Kanye is so important. A truly genuine individual voice, constantly trying to reinvent himself through what he believes to be correct. Who are ‘they’? Isn’t this less about a conspiracy of an unknown ‘they’ trying to cancel him.... But more about Kanye receive backlash like most celebrities but the backlash being enhanced due to how frequently he makes controversial moves? Because it wasn’t the same they each time anyway. The people made over George Bush hates Black People weren’t the same who were mad at the Trump MAGA support. This is just the general public being divided over him since he’s divisive & controversial, rather than any specific group with an agenda trying to ‘cancel’ him.

It’s quite interesting to see how most people that hate on Kanye in the comments have never actually genuinely listened to his works. Many people say that he is what’s wrong with modern music but the only thing that has always has been wrong with music is how intolerant and close minded people are towards other artists. People judge artists by one song or one lyric and then go on to continuously hate on them and this isn’t just related it Kanye. Kanye has undoubtedly been one of the most influential figures in music throughout the last 19 years and he has produced projects that will or already have gone down in history most notably My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. You don’t have to like his music but denying it’s influence or importance to hip hop is just ignorant and just proves that most people actually don’t really properly listen to most artists. This is the same when people hate on Taylor Swift or any other artist. Do you have to like her? Of course not but her influence is extremely significant. People should start listening to music with an open mind and stop ignoring someone’s success based on “liking” or “not liking” someone’s music. That in itself is a bad way of interpreting and analysing music.

Actually according to engineer Noah Goldstein they weren't listening to Death Grips at all during the making of Yeezus that's a bullshit theory made up by Fantano and spread by his goons masquerading as a (false-premise) criticism of the album. pitchfork.com/features/article/9157-the-yeezus-sessions/ "One of my friends said the album sounded like Death Grips, and I was like, "I don't know what you're talking about, but OK." I know of them, but I can definitely say that we did not listen to Death Grips once the entire time we were making this album." - Noah Goldstein

Handerson Ornelas YES! It‘s such a underrated song! „I talkes to God about you, he said he sent you an angel and look at all that he gave you You asked for one and you got two“ always sends shivers down my spine. You can see through all the controversy surrounding him, seeing what a incredible family man he is. I also think he needed that song, coping with his mother sudden death, which obvioulsy left a huge crater in him. „No you‘re not perfect but you‘re not your mistakes“ really shows that. He knows what people think of him, that he had his fair share of missteps but needs to be reminded, by the loving voice of his mother, that they don‘t define him.

I had a teacher at my music college claim that Kanye & Paul only worked together for marketing reasons and clout. That teacher was a damn idiot. Both have enthused about the creative inspiration they see in one another, and the quality of their 3 collabs is proof that it wasn’t just an attempt to boost sales. Smh. Only One is great though for sure

Every Kanye album sounds different, he takes risks on most albums unlike other artists. He doesn’t play it safe. MBDTF was a platform put emerging artists on the map, Nicki, Cyhi. Cruel summer put Travis on the map.

MBDTF reinvented Pusha too. Of course he’d made classics as Clipse with Pharrell in the 00s...but ask how many kids know Malice or the song Grindin, then ask them how many know Pusha and you’ll see his renewed popularity. CyHi kinda flopped though. Was good on MBDTF but didn’t blow up. A bit like how Hittman was all other Dre 2001 but never took off

How is it sad? It’s an objectively bad song that was made to be objectively bad to make a statement. It was made to be a meme. I’m not denying the soul sample sounds good, but the structure, arrangement, composition, effort, lyrics, intention, etc all helped to succeed in making an intentionally bad and meme-worthy song. There’s nothing sad about it being meme’d. Itd be more sad if people unironically tried to make a case for the song

The difference between drake & Kanye’s singing-rap is that at least Kanye makes you actually feel his tragic loss of his mother and breaking off with his then long time girlfriend (in 808, donda for eg). The problem with Drake is that he only makes music for women to listen whilst driving to work and hit the clubs. Once weeks go by no one remembers drakes songs. He neither live his music or even experienced any hard ships. Kanye’s albums on the other hand makes you still cry after 15 years. That’s why drake won’t be equal to Kanye’s or MJ level. Because these guys did change the life-game as much as they did changed music-game.

My relationship with Kanye is very polarizing (over the last few years) but I try to keep the focus on the music - which has been a soundtrack to my life. MBDTF remains arguably the best album of the 10's and Life of Pablo and Yeezus along with mbdtf truly shaped a whole decade and culture. Unfortunately Jesus is king doesn't hit home at all - both lyrically and production wise (beyond a few highlights). The erratic, narcissistic genius always had a lot to unpack and likely always will - but the current album is far from Kanye the genius and innovator. Despite everything, you may hate him or love him (or like me struggle with this "new Kanye") you can't deny his role in music and culture - everyone has their eyes peeled on his every step, every album and every production. And even if its all downhill from here - we still got some of the best albums, music and collaborations this century (00's) thanks to Ye.
