Converge's own Kurt Ballou has had such a massive imprint on a variety of genres and how they are produced for decades now. Many people do not know JUST how much he has contributed his production to and how some of the most critically acclaimed metal records of the 90's, 2000's and 2010's came from his artistic vision and dynamic versatility. Let's talk about that!

Someone who is regularly brought up in the metal world but I truly don't believe gets NEARLY the credit he deserves for his massive producing discography is Kurt Ballou. I wanted to approach his history and how he redefined metal production for the better part of three decades straight. What're your opinions of him?! Be sure to let me know down below!!!!!!! Bands like Converge, Nails and Dillinger were my introduction to Metalcore and helped me a lot to close the gap between hardcore and metal in terms of taste. To this day I still find records like All We Love We Leave Behind and Abandon All Life to have some really pummeling production but kinda "pristine" production in a good way that lets the music breathe. Whenever I find his name in a record is guaranteed quality almost all the time. (Untitled by The Armed, the first two Oathbreaker albums, A Patient Man by Cult Leader) just to name a few.

There's a healthy emphasis on production and than there's over-production. Kurt Ballou skirts this line masterfully.

I have never listen to converge’s discography before and they have been on my list for bands to check out out of many bands. But recently I stopped checking out new bands due to burnout. This video may change my mind

Highly recommend it honestly! And that's totally understandable! At the end of the day listen to what you have fun with. :] really love Converge's discography and Kurt's stuff, though! I guarantee you've heard something he's produced haha or many, maybe without even realizing it!

Kurt Ballou is an amazing guitarist and producer. His fast, sharp riffs made Converge stand out from the metalcore pack. His production is amazing as he knows how to produce metal albums that aren’t too sterile but contain enough grit and are mixed well. Cave In, Genghis Tron, Animosity, Trap Them, Misery Index, Kvelertak, Nails, High on Fire, Code Orange, Toxic Holocaust, Skeletonwitch, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Darkest Hour, Chelsea Wolfe, Zeal & Ardor, The Armed, Full of Hell, and Russian Circles all have stellar albums that were produced by Kurt Ballou.

Kurt Ballou is insanely good. One of my favorite producers along with Jens Bogren and Will putney. Don't forget buster too!

Hell yeah! Great video. Subbed! Ballou produced so many of my absolute favs. Just a couple that weren’t mentioned (because there ARE so damn many) that I think are noteworthy, the album “Bushcraft” by Baptists, and the albums “Too Sick To Dance” and “You’re Not Looking So Good” by Suicide Note.
