different diciplinces call different charged sides the anode and cathode, in physics for electron guns and stullf its flipped as compared to and chemistry for things like electrolysis, however idk if the video has it right for batteries, i just know it isn't consistant

Hello, I found that acid from PB battery is getting chemical reaction with white cliffs ground - the white ground. I am bad in chemistry but the elements is making some gas. It can use with pressure barrels to make pressure for turn some turbines - such wind or something similar. I used rain water for the battery, says it fine. Just dunno how long the reaction last, maybe it is just salt or soda. Thanks

Why the electrons won't flow to cathode via electrolyte, what prevents it from moving that way?
@Frizzy9000
@Frizzy9000 Год назад
If you look around 2:14 it gives a general idea. The electrons were only released because of the sulfate reaction with the lead. The cathode has oxygen bonds whose charge only reacts towards the hydrogen so you could say it is more "stable " and does not want to except any electrons. Since the oxygen only got released from the sulfate reaction it makes a sort or "shield", combine that with the fact that hydrogen is combining "towards" the cathode and you get a one way trip. But to be clear even that is oversimplified as you make a point. I am not an expert but at higher voltages/shortcircuits this can happen. There is also thermal and electrical shielding to prevent that, hopefully someone can give more details/correct on finer points

can you do a quick video on how a lead acid battery dangerously overcharges and causes a sulfer smell
@LiborTinka
@LiborTinka Год назад
I think this is due to reaction of lead in hot conc. sulfuric acid which is exactly the overcharge conditions: Pb + 3 H2SO4 ----> Pb(HSO4)2 + SO2 + H2O So the sulfur smell might come from the sulfur dioxide gas being expelled. This requires temperatures of 30-50 oC and ~80% H2SO4 (I think batteries don't go much over 60% but I don't know much about practicalities of the lead-acid battery).

QUESTION:: LED BATTERY SHELF LIFE? How long Are brand new batteries climit control stored.. good for? I mean after a battery tainer charge are they still fine? Maybe top off the acid?
@nonyabusiness9747
@nonyabusiness9747 Год назад
It was said at the end of this video, "if we leave the battery.." does this mean a brand new battery left for years without charging would fully dissipate its energy? Asking because I've just been given a unused battery bank, the catch is they've been sitting for some years.. are they worth messing with? Trying to low budget power our offgrid home here..
@KJMcLaws
@KJMcLaws Год назад
@@nonyabusiness9747 there is internal resistance always. So yes they will self discharge if not maintained with a charger. If you have a bank you might try charging all of the batteries and test them to see if and how well they hold the charge. There are also desulfurization chargers that can try and restore some of the life in the batteries.

QUESTION: Cathode is positive and Anode is negative? Why does google disagree? I’m confused af
@Ottos_ScLm_Race_videos_2009_on
He is correct, I just looked at Google where are you looking on Google? I found the same on Google that he has.
@ravenous9577
@ravenous9577 Год назад
So this can be complicated. You are right to be confused.There is what is known as conventional current which is the flow of "holes" (or the absence of an electron) towards a negative charge and then there is electron current which is the flow of electrons towards positive regions. The term anode and cathode depends on what type of current you are defining. If conventional current, then the anode is positive and cathode is negative. (Holes -> Negative Region) If electron current, then the anode is negative and cathode is positive. (Electron -> Positive Region) In essence, an anode is the "Source" and cathode is the "Drain" in either scenario. Regardless if you are using conventional current or electron current, the flow of charge is going from anode to cathode. In chemistry, electron current is usually the preferred perspective. So negative anodes, positive cathodes. That is why anions are negatively charged and cations are positively charged. In electronics or electrical engineering, conventional current is typically used. So positive anodes, negative cathodes. In battery technology, both electrical engineering and chemical engineering can be used which is often a point of confusion. Why do people use conventional current? Just became a stupid convention imo. I much prefer electron current as electrons are actual particles whereas holes are just conceptual placeholders. BUt in terms of the flow of charge, I suppose it doesn't make a difference in most scenarios.
@rishavjain5087
@rishavjain5087 Год назад
Becz Cathode can either be +ive or -ive so does the Anode. Actually Cathode is the one where Reduction (Gain of e-, *confusing names indeed*) occurs and at anode Oxidation (loss of e-) occurs you can remember this by RED CAT 🐈 and AN OX 🐂 mnemonic btw cathode is +ive in cells which *create* electric current and -ive in cells which *require* electric current

01:30 You have labeled the cathode as being positive and the anode as being negative. Isn’t this contrary to conventional current flow?
@igorordecha
@igorordecha Год назад
From what I heard, anode being positive and cathode negative is used when talking about the receivers of power(LEDs or betteries that are charging). If the device is outputting power(like a battery that's being discharged) it's reversed. Cathode is on the + and anode on the - terminal. I don't really know why but I believe its about the direction of the electrons going through the terminal. So cathode would always get electrons and anode would always give electrons.
@Ottos_ScLm_Race_videos_2009_on
One thing he needs to explain is a generator VS and alternator. And you can't directly charge a lead acid battery with and alternator.
@FireCrowsWorkshop
@FireCrowsWorkshop 6 месяцев назад
Say that to any decent mechanic and they’ll call you a 🔔 🔚. 🤷‍♂️ Quite simply because every car manufactured in last at least 40 years has been fitted with an alternator. And all those alternators have rectifiers and voltage regulators simply because generators aren’t efficient enough.
@davidfalconer8913

ALWAYS recharge your Lead - Acid battery as SOON as possible , after ANY discharging ! ...... leave your ( almost ) flat battery ( in an old shed / garage , for weeks ? ) , and it will be dead forever ! , and with a 12 Volt car battery make SURE the charging voltage NEVER exceeds 14 Volts , or you lose water ( especially important for sealed or gel types ............ DAVE™ ............

In a circuit level (functioning of a circuit) , conventional current is okay but to explain and understand the inner working of components, current flow aka electron flow is necessary.
