What is Dielectric Strength?
• What is Dielectric Str...
In this video, I have discussed all the main possible ways of lightning damage to electronics Devices because of their low dielectric strength...(low dielectric strength means small increase in voltage across a material cause spark or breakdown of the material) including direct coupling, inductive coupling and capacitive coupling..most frequently damage occurs due to direct coupling and inductive coupling ...in case of capacitive coupling voltage induced is low and can be bypassed using protection devices
.i haven't considered the protection system connected in power system, distribution system and in our homes..lightning protection is very very much necessary in the areas where probability of lightning strike is high...other than electronic and electrical damage...it can also damage or destroy our residence..can cause fire also...and some times cause death due to step voltage or direct strike on the person!..
.in upcoming videos.. I'll discuss "How can we protect our devices from damage caused by lightning"

In my school days I had noticed that whenever the sky was overcast and lightning was seen in clouds, at the time of lightning there was a buzzing sound in a transformer close to my house and simultaneously light bulbs also became brighter although the lightning had not come to ground or any other object close to ground and took place much farther away up in the sky. I asked people but I couldn't get a satisfying answer. You have solved this age old riddle for me :-) now I understand that it happens because of a strong magnetic field around the lightning discharge bolt that can influence the electronics much farther away down on the ground in which a corresponding momentary electrical charge is produced and this surge may cause buzzing in transformers and making bulbs shine brighter.

is it possible for something electronic to be struck by a lightning surge not work but still have power going to it? specifically an electronic driveway entrance gate

Well lightning struck today and some stuff broke and here i am, great vid i undertand what happened now, also i cant find the vid on the lightning protection devices you mentioned

Happens to me a couple of times already. Hit my PC, monitor & TV. Luckily, they weren't broken, at least materially. Now I turned them off whenever there's heavy lightning or rain, but sometimes it struck before I managed to do it.

So inductive coupling is same as capacitive coupling?

good explaination........ i have question so if we use mobile during thunderstorm or anyother device without contact with cable so it wont be harmed during lighnting right????
@EngineerWithin
@EngineerWithin 4 года назад
Yes it won't harm because your mobile conductors are very small..

Hi Sir , want to find out what happen if the conductor open circuit in the middle while transferring the lightning current into the ground ? would the current backwards or how the current going to flow down to the ground ? Please advise , tq .
@EngineerWithin
@EngineerWithin 3 года назад
If the gap between two conductors is enough to pass the current in the form of spark...then it will coduct. Otherwise, High current will find other low resistance paths to ground!
@wynnleesolutions1020
@wynnleesolutions1020 3 года назад
@@EngineerWithin Hi Sir thanks for the replied and very happy to get the answer ...... which means the current will go upwards and downwards to find a low resistance paths to ground right ?
@EngineerWithin
@EngineerWithin 3 года назад
Noo...if your wire is broken...the. Current initially will follow low resistance path! U know current can go around the global 7 times in a second!

@@EngineerWithin Hi Sir , currently I'm handling a project which I'm trying to make use of the structural as a natural conductor , please refer to the photo the blue line is the lightning current flowing from the structural and end of the way is a cement block which is consider open circuit right , so my question is since is an open circuit on the cement block , how the lightning current to move ? backwards ? tq

Sir , whenever lightening strikes somewhere near the inverter in our home gets damaged. If i connect a m.c.b to the input of the inverter will it then protect the inverter from electric surges caused by lightening strike?
@EngineerWithin
@EngineerWithin 3 года назад
No mcb does't protect against lightning
@Pratim_Ganguly
@Pratim_Ganguly 3 года назад
Actually i have looked up on the internet and found it out that surge protectors are very costly devices. So i thought of using m.c.b but as you have said it's not useful in this regard. Someone has told me to use r.c.c.b instead. Does any device other than lightening surge protector can protect inverter against lightening strike?

Great Video clip! Excuse me for butting in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you heard the talk about - Runayslarn Survival Manifestation (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a smashing exclusive product for discovering how to repair your electronic items minus the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my work buddy after many years got astronomical success with it.
