It may help if you explain the differences in direct and indirect. But your example would require 7 straps as the first and second layer also require 2 straps.
If you can use the entire WLL for indirect tie-downs and that is an advantage, what is the disadvantage of direct tie-downs with respect to the WLL that can be used? Kev
While the video is useful for thinking about how to secure loads, they also forgot to discuss gut straps, aka belly straps. A gut strap goes in between tiers of the load (in the video example, there are 3 tiers of pipe). IIRC, gut straps should be thrown at least 1 per 10 feet (3 meters) of total cargo length, per tier. In the video's example, tiers 1 and 2 would require 2 gut straps each, with the 3rd tier requiring the normal amount of securement for the total load length and weight.
