ถึงจะเป็นชนบทแต่เราก็มีทุกอย่างในน้ำมีปลาในนามีข้าวเอาเมล็ดอะไรลงไปในดินทุกอย่างไดัรับผลผลิตรวมทั้งสาธารณูปโภคที่ครบครันจะมีสักกี่ประเทศที่โชคดีเหมือนคนไทยถึง ตจว.รายได้จะไม่สูงแต่ค่าครองชีพเราก็ต่ำลงแค่นี้ก็สุขแล้วครับ

After four years of being the only Farang in my village of about 160 households, I think the “novelty” of a Farang is starting to wear off for them, which is a good thing as I get treated, as you say, “normal”. The school kids still enjoy the novelty of using their English with me.

I am also the only farang in the village. I feel that some of the older people are a bit shy but as I do my morning bicycle ride around the village each morning they are also smiling as I pass by. However, the dogs are a different story.😅 But they are are also getting to know me now and most have stopped chasing me as I ride past their homes. It is a great small village that my wife has brought me to live in.

You are absolutely correct when saying it's the Thai people who always have a smile on their face and just way cool people. I use to walk around our block, it's about 3 miles around the block. When I was a mile and a half from the house, Thais would pull over on their scooters to pick me up, and I am the only white person in Ang Thong. LOVE THEM!

I totally get what you mean about wanting to be seen as a local. When we first moved to our place near Doi Inthanon I was concerned about how I'd 'fit in'. There were no other foreigners in the area and my Thai wife is not from this area. We've been welcomed with such warmth and included as part of the community. Ryan can I suggest you look into carbonising the rice husks, CRH. Basically activated carbon and very useful on your farm. I had a 100 pig sty and it was a main part of composting manure and limiting smells. Happy to assist further just get in touch.

I have lived in this village for 16 years so I get what you are talking about. I am just a normal fixture of life here. Even people who have never spoken with me know who I am and who I belong to, family wise. When they see me on the trails around here they pretty much ignore me or maybe ask about my wife if I am alone. Today though we went to a more touristy part of Chiang Khong to pick up a race bib for tomorrow and while I was standing alone some strangers asked me to take a group photo of them. I obliged but deftly sidestepped their attempts to ask the typical farang questions. That seldom happens to me anymore. Thais usually need to be introduced to someone before they will interact so if they ignore you, that means they are treating you the same way they would a Thai stranger. Being the center of attention really goes to the head of some foreigners but it is not something I find very flattering or respectful.

@@perfect-yq1hh I get what you mean but interactions across the social spectrum are a bit more nuanced than simply being humble. For example, many of my wife's friends are Life Coaches and very athletic, so a bit more modern in their communication style, which I like. I can have a conversation with nearly any Thai person but I like to focus on relationships that I find rewarding and fulfilling. I have lived here my entire adult life so the standard Thai-Farang topics of conversation are no longer interesting to me and that makes me appreciate when people get on with their lives and don't assume I am desperate to talk to every random stranger on the street.

Like you I am the only farang in the village. For my chickens I put the rice hay in the nest boxes and on the floor. Works great

Damn something just dawned on me whilst watching this video and that is, I could walk past any of my cousins in the street and would not even know that we are related. Though some would say that Otis and Hugo will never get a "Western" education in Thailand I can guarantee they will never feel what I just realised.

Another interesting episode Ryan and Mo. Well filmed, microphone works fine on the saleng. Love watching Hugo, he reminds me a bit of an older bald British expat here after several pints, always smiling yet a bit wobbly 555 (though Hugo has hair now) He seems to have less melanin than Otis, time will tell. My wife's family always thought our son could be a movie star or model in Thailand as he is good looking and lighter skinned which as we know is revered here.. Peace and Love. PS My sinuses are acting up in this weather as well

Its like in Japan, When i lived there in more remote area's the kids would point and call gaijon(japan version of farang) I thought it was quite funny 😅, Adults there didn't use the term so much
