I really like the addition of the pantry items to this. All of the meals look good for the budget and during my student days are things I could have done with.
When you were doing the shopping around 2:13 I noticed there were some Taste Me, Dont Waste Me boxes on the stand. I work at a Sainsburys and make them boxes up sometimes. It might be worth you trying one out someday. £2 per box & you can really get some good value in them. It tends to be either fruit & Veg with a best before that has just passed or entire packs of fruit with several days before best before but where the packaging has split, such as a pack of mushrooms, grapes or strawberries etc. As with most things that are trying to avoid surplus food there's no guarantee of what you'll get or if they'll be anything to make the boxes up with. But if they are available & fancy a challenge of making recipes with what's in the box it's worth a try.
@@onethingafteranother they tend to put them out in the morning at ours can be hit or miss how many are there and how fast they go. FYI if we go to our Sainsbury's and Asda just after 7:30 they reduce any yellow stickers to 10p again it's hit or miss but the other day I got £34 worth of stuff for £1:30 and once in asda hit a baked goods gold mine so was able to get stuff for wider family too xx
@@emmaw944 nice! Never seen that here but I'll check it out in case. Some of them are on too good to go app, but not Sainsbury's. Do you mean in the morning or evening? 😊
hello sam, not sure if you reply but it upset me when you mentioned you being a “small creator” it doesn’t matter how many subs you have your content is actually amazing. You do not require any of that as proven by your current content!! Keep it up SAM🤘🏽
I think being a small creator = more personal attention and care into the videos quite often Def the case here! And it’s all his style and personality and it shows :)
1st video I've watched; the fact that Ive learnt more here than the majority of large content creator. These are definitely "gourmet meals" for £10😋👍🔥🔥🔥;where others have made bland, boring and meh
One thing I will put out there if you want spices and herbs, don't bother with the big supermarkets go to your nearest Asian market half the price and twice as much... But be careful you'll go in for two or three little bits and walk out with two or three bags full, me and my wife do everytime we go, it's awesome
It really depends on how much you use. Yes they’re bigger packs and cheaper, but if you don’t use a huge amount it’ll go stale before you use it, the plastic bags don’t keep it as fresh and the glass jars are much more practical
@@thecraftylarder6943 we do use quite a lot but we always store them in air tight lock boxes. My brother has saved the glass jars and decants them when needs be, they seem to last quite a while
been watching you since around 8k, genuinely catches me out sometimes at how good your videos are, like everything about them is so high end, genuinely get confused whether im watching a 100k+ subs channel.
Yay! I've been looking forward to your next upload. Great end to a rotten day. I really enjoy your channel. I left a comment a few weeks ago about losing my mother in law really suddenly, and you're still helping me switch off from the sadness surrounding us. Thanks for existing on this platform ❤
Slways love seeing what you do with your ingredients. Cheap Spaghetti is ace with just olive oil and garlic/chilli or butter and marmite and you can do so much else with it v cheaply peas, cheese fromage frais, warm/pasta salad withthe tiniest bit of bacon/cheese veg flavourings
Try getting a bag of dried beans like pintos. They are cheap and you get alot for the money and they are super easy to fix, same for a bag of rice. Beans and rice are a wonderful easy pairing. Super simple to fix and you can put practically anything with them and fix them separately or together so many tasty ways.
Mayo was runny because you put the egg whites in! You don't put egg whites in mayo or if you do, you whisked them separately, add chives and then fold them carefully in the mayo!
I wonder if, after washing, you could lay the hoops on an oven tray and put them in a very low oven for a while to sort of dry them a bit and maybe they wouldn’t be so mushy?
As nice as an improved camera or whatever would be, your videos are fantastic already and people enjoy them for the content you already make. No need to worry about all that production stuff 😃
Thank you once again Sam great a great mix of meals for your money( And you have your own quality control expert the lovely Riley doing the sniff test ) keep up the great challenges.x
Just stumbled upon your channel! Some great ideas especially apple and cinnamon with porridge! I will definitely be trying that! I think with the prawn mayo toasted sandwich I would have to sprinkle smoked paprika over the prawns! Now going to check out the rest of your videos!
Sam, Sam, Sam, you crumbled...You literally and figuratively crumbled. I could make a crumble... But I won't... Pull it together Sam, we believe in better puddings...
Now I’ve finished the video, cringed at broiler and cried at rinsing spaghetti… what about £10 of pantry staples that you think everyone should have and from there the can be used in future challenges because it’s budget based?
i think the runnyness of the mayo came from not enough oil rather than the prawns, it was quite loose before adding the prawns, the mayo had emulsified but there just wasn’t enough oil in there i think
Hi Sam, Just for general info. If you find your water bechamel was lacking in richness, you could always add a knob of butter to give it a final boost of flavour. (Since you said it was fine I guess it didn't need it) if folks are living on a strict budget whenever they go out to a fast food joint they can stock up on sauces condiments etc. I was cheering for the flippin Flip! a Croque Oncle Robert. I dunno about the rings-hoops-Loop-d-Loops, we might be verging on another Croque. Cheers from Mexico Jacques
There’s gotta be a way to do something with spaghetti hoops. Like the lock down pasta trend they could probably be drained, dehydrated and fried into chips
Stamford Street is an awesome line of groceries.....I don't these aren't food but the Stamford street Loo Roll is THE BEST Loo roll!!!! Also the Stamford Street cleaning products are good too x
Why not charge yourself for example a 5% fee for use of "pantry staples"? That way, you don't have to include the £3 bottle of cooking oil in your budget every time, but you also are being realistic and nobody will complain about it. So for a £10 budget challenge you assume you're spending ~50p on pantry stuff and have £9.50 to spend on the macro ingredients. Even if we have these things "lying around" they were at least once upon a time paid for, and will eventually deplete.
Tinned tomatoes are a healthy tasty versatile must in any storecupboard. The dish that you made looked great Sam. Also is there any way of disguising tinned pasta sauce.....maybe not😊
I like that you use basic condiments, herbs, spices, and pantry items during these challenges. Realistically, if someone doesn't have their act together enough to acquire a basic spice cabinet and pantry, they are highly unlikely to bother even making food at home, never mind searching the internet for meal plans.
Hey Sam shop at sainsburys for certain stuff cos i prefer it than other shops like some of their taste the difference range is really nice, i know you are on a £10 budget but i suggest if you try the taste the difference curry, its the nicest supermarket curry ive had, sometimes its £4.25 but sometimes you can get it on nectar card price for £3.75, some things in sainsburys are more expensive like some biscuits for example they are more expensive than asda, so i buy them from asda instead, but deffo give the curry a try and taste the difference ham leek potato gratin is also lovely
I like that camera mount! Good to see you attracting some attention. Glad I can say I've been here for a while! Your croque madame looked like it kicked butt. I'm actually gonna applaud you NOT saving that sauce. Canned pasta sauce is usually vile and overly sweet, to appease children. I would've tried frying the pasta hoops up a little with the butter & garlic, to firm them up, then taking them out, cooking the rest of your things, then adding the pasta back in. You can get lemon juice & dijon for under 50p? Wow, we need some price control in the US.
why did you buy tinned pasta and not dried pasta? Surely they are the same price or cheaper? Was tgat because it was unavailable- sorry I missed that bit of the video was doing my laundry. I was never a fan of tinned pasta smells revolting like going past a pub after people have thrown up the next morning. Never thought of rinsing off the sauce though.👍
I really like Shakshuka its cheap tasty and a perfect brunch dish. I usually would have flatbreads which really is just flour water and olive oil with herb of choice. the Stamford Street range in Sainsburys is not bad, although that cheese isnt my cheese of choice it actually tastes pretty good and of cheddar and not like that cheap orange processed cheese ugh.
I very rarely buy expensive brands maybe once every now and then as a treat for myself apart from that i buy cheap because that's all i can afford to buy these days.
