Hey doc I get prescriptions for subutex and Valium. I’m supposed to be on a taper for benzos and it was working until I started to get bad anxiety again and I started to seek Xanax on the streets. I got myself into trouble because I didn’t know withdrawals were this bad. I told my doc what happened in an email and he hasn’t responded. I’m afraid he’ll cut me off entirely. What can I say to him to get him to agree to start the taper over? I can’t be going around these people anymore to get pills and I’m ready to listen to my docs instructions. I’m lucky he gives me 45 (5mg) Valium a month. I feel dizzy and I feel like I can’t breathe. It’s scary and I just want to feel normal while I taper. He will give me all the subutex I want but not enough Valium. Even when I buy pills off the street I take them modestly. I never exceed 4mg of Xanax a day.

@@colspiracy8326 Oh well Im happy to say Im 100% fine now. For the first few years it was withdrawal attacks every day. It took A LONG TIME about 3 years but now I dont have ANY anymore. You brain will heal with time. Takes time for those GABA receptor sites to upregulate. The good news is you can recover but it will take a lot of time. Far more time than any other drug. SLOWLY decrease your booze intake. Dont stop cold turkey. Get a LOG and parcel out what youve been drinking and log it in the book. Consider what you drink normally as a "dose" how much alcohol is in it is what matters. You have to decrease dosage slowly over time week by week. Try 10% reduction each week. If thats too hard do 5% but just keep the dosage going down and you will get there. You can do it, I know you can because I did!

This is such an informative video. I’ve been on Klonopin for over 20 years. My psychiatrist who is an addiction specialist and the Director of Behavior Health at Vanderbilt in Nashville saw what I was taking and explained what happened to me. He wanted to wean me off and I agreed. I reduce.25mg at a time. It’s been very difficult but thank God I have a supportive husband of 44 years. Yes I am in my 60’s and am determined to get off this. I don’t drink alcohol, I don’t indulge in any street drugs. I did start smoking cigarettes again and that ended when I had Omicron. I’m having major withdrawal symptoms that seem to come in waves. I’m a breast cancer survivor and will take one baby step each day to say goodbye to benzodiazepines once and for all.

My own experience of benzodiazepine withdrawal has been in relation to tapering off 40mgs of Valium and 7.5mgs Zopiclone. It has taken me 19 months to quit the zopiclone entirely and to reduce my daily Benzo intake down to 2.5mgs. It has been incredibly challenging on a daily basis with little respite from the myriad withdrawal symptoms. I prefer the term Benzodiazepine injury to addiction or dependancy. It truly has injured my body and my brain and in a wider sense my entire life. I expect to continue experiencing withdrawal/injury symptoms for the foreseeable future. It’s not benzo “addiction” or “substance abuse” with 99% of individuals and it drives me crazy when practitioners say this. I was prescribed benzos for hyperthyroidism and took as prescribed ONLY. I only took 1 mg of Klonopin daily for six months while my thyroid was treated. It’s not an addiction, it’s physical dependence. These drugs are horrible and damage your nervous system. You must go through a very slow taper in order for your system to adjust. Titration was difficult and withdrawal was very hard. Big problem is the crap generics that they give you that aren’t regulated when they are made in India or China. If you need to withdraw, make sure your provider gives you brand name Klonopin by Roche Pharma. This way, you know what you’re getting as they can’t deviate from the patent. Very important.

My dog was on the other side of the house and my mother had the tv on very loudly. I was addicted to research chemical (designer) benzos that i bought online, the one i was taking was called Clonazolam. It is estimated to be 4-5 times more potent than xanax. I’ve been off and on Xanax over the last few years with one CRUEL dr in particular who did a joke of a taper when I was at 2mg 3x a day and he cut it half for two weeks then said that was it - I went thru such intense sickness and pain. The worst part was that he forgot to give me the pregnancy test before doing this since it can be harmful to a fetus when the body is in withdrawal. I did not know I was 6 weeks pregnant when he did this. I only realized because on week 3 I had a traumatic miscarriage. I would have sued the shit out of him. Makes you wonder why these types even become doctors? They take an oath not to harm, yet they do this knowing full well the literature out there documenting withdrawal timelines. Don’t let these doctors BS you when they’re playing ignorant, they’re doing it to save their license from the DEA, and their medical license, they prescribe to many scheduled medication‘s and get a slap on the wrist and then decide to cut everyone off at one time causing rippling devastating harm to hundreds of individuals, the very definition of causing harm. To clarify I am not judging doctors for prescribing because millions are able to function because they prescribe these medication‘s whereas they otherwise wouldn’t be able to hold down even a job. What I’m referring to you is this Cold turkey withdrawal nightmare testimonies I’m hearing which are physician induced.

@@nathanstice8456 thank you. I did look at either filing for an investigation or formal complaint, unfortunately when I went thru my records at that time I found he had referenced a pregnancy test I had had to test about two weeks before because of something else going on that came back negative. The reason stated in my records is that he abruptly stopped it because I had illicit opiates in my system - nobody ever told me this or asked me, had they done so I would have easily been able to point out that it was in my medical record that I had been prescribed a low dose of Vicodin due to a wrist break. Literally the definition of NOT ILLICIT. One day I will write that letter, someday soon as I’ve been able to emotionally process it and know if the letter is at all misinterpreted as a woman emotionally spewing accusations it will be ignored unfortunately. He needs to know though, I need to tell him even if it’s just for my own healing. American doctors are so far behind when it comes to the concept of treating patients (no matter if it’s addiction, dependence or unforeseen side effects) with empathy and HUMANELY. It should honestly be illegal for physicians to taper anyone for any reason off of an medication (especially opiates & benzos) in an inhumane and cruel way. Unfortunately, inhumane cut offs and “tapers” are the norm here. The few doctors speaking out about the cruelty of this gives me hope though. *sigh*

SIX years off occasional use of Ativan for insomnia and living a nightmare. No more emotions but fear and anxiety. Too many symptoms to list here. I never wanted to take ativan. It has destroyed 16 years of my life...just a few doses for insomnia and it caused heart arrhythmias. Doc said take it for that. Then I developed anxiety, then panic disorder. I took Ativan as needed for ten years, not knowing it was causing the panic disorder. I had to research myself, as doc put me on nine other psych meds and they all made me worse. God knows what's in them but they really mess folk up, like they get highly intoxicated from them, so they obviously have some kind of benzo in them. I feel really sorry for the ppl who are taking them as listening to this video, they don't know what they are in for. And yes it's definitely some kind of benzo in them as I have a friend who was on Mogadon and Valium from his psychiatrist, when his psychiatrist re-tired the new one wouldn't prescribe them anymore, and did a really quick taper, over about 6 weeks, my friend started getting the street valium and they stopped his withdrawal.

Years ago Barbiturates fell out of favor cause benzos were "safer", now I am off the benzos, I take an ssri and a 2nd generation antipsychotic that does nothing. I've switched from 2 pills a day, to another different 2 pills a day. This drug thing isn't working. I attribute my attitude a little to withdrawal...so sorry for that. And there are literally no psychological help that doesn't onset of 10 minutes on zoom. I had to lie and go to the hospital on e telling them I was suicidal just to get a 72 hr hold. From there I can see an actual MD. For me, no pills whatsoever is the only way.

Why would anyone want to taper off benzos if what you got is living in hell and you dont know if it ever ends and is most likely like that for the rest of your life. You will lose your job, girl/boy friend, friends and you will live like in a horror movie. That just doesnt make any sense. Also the anxiety and dysphoria is so taxing and stressful (long time stress causing cardiovascular changes is one of the biggest killers) that it will kill you much faster than if you would just continue using benzos rest of your life. People just need to admitt that you or your doctor made a mistake and that cant be repaired. Even if you have used doctor prescribed fairly low doses for years and years you will never ever feel good/normal, ever. Thats basically what this doctor told, the mistake has already been made, just live with it and dont make your life hell by trying something impossible.

Detox or detoxification implies that the biggest step in recovery is eliminating a drug from the body, and I always thought that with no drug recovery is that a truly meaningful stage and it's misleading in describing the phenomenon of drug withdrawals. Withdrawals aren't a process dependent on concentration of a drug in the body and benzodiazepines are the best example of that because of the sheer duration of symptoms at a relatively constant intensity. It's good to see more and more awareness about it and compassion among doctors in recent years cause if you ever understood the magnitude of withdrawals from benzodiazepine, opioid, etc, you'd understand that it's something you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy and your goal shouldn't be to accelerate the process with rapid tapers. Seeing doctors that treat it lightly is heartbreaking, and especially the way they approach drug dependence in the prison system is downright cruel.

The intake officer at the main hostpital in Sydney here, royal north shore hospital Sydney, rings once a week, moves the goal posts each phone call for what paperwork I need to see a doctor, gives me her phone number as a fax, hangs up on me mid sentence, discharges me without informing me, doesn't remember me etc... . It's a beaurocratic nightmare that is making the situation worse. 6 or so weeks now of this apparent game. It is probably the most insensitive and cruel treatment I've ever received. I mean, I'm going on a bit of sleep once every 2 days. That's been 6 weeks now.

Okay, since then, I have taken up holotropic meditation, breathing exercises, walking, running etc.. All is good now. I didn't end up using any valium and I got through it. It is scary not feeling helped when you realize what who've done to yourself, but, you can do this. You are stronger than you think.

I withdrew from clonazepam a few weeks ago easy. There’s underlying anxiety that came back and that can’t be controlled with the lexapro that seemed to be working before coming off clonazepam. I was on clonazepam off and on for 4 years under medical supervision. I’ve come off because my doctor “didn’t detect clonazepam in the drug test”, and accused me of not taking my medication (which is Bs, why wouldn’t I take clonazepam?) I feel like I’m about to have a panic attack.

Not everyone that takes benzos are addicted or crave them. Some take a low dose because the withdrawls are very harsh. Doctors say there are no withdrawals Coming off benzos for the most part. Why are these pills even prescribed if there is such a risk of withdrawls? You barely shared on withdrawal symptoms.

Many of these problems arise because doctors don’t understand how awful these drugs are. I was started on xanax at 19 and within months of the first dose it was impossible to imagine a world without them. Docs told me w/d was not a big deal, they act like you detox and then 2 weeks later you’re better. This isn’t the case at all. I essentially lost my mind while in the hospital after my doses came in too slow and i went into delirium tremens. I spent 3 days unconscious and fighting the doctors. Normal hospital restraints couldnt hold me. you could have said i was possessed and that would have been a more appropriate mental image than “detoxing” or even “withdrawal” suggest. This stuffs no joke. Please be careful if youre prescribed these drugs and considering going off.

I also developed an addiction, I started with 1.5 mg of bromazepam(Lexilium) and reached 3x3mg a day at intervals. It's different here in Europe than in America, it seems to me that they lightly prescribe stronger doses from this group of sedatives Withdrawals are hell also,I’m still on it

Well... but to use a broad brush to paint EVERYBODY that's been damaged by benzodiazepines as abusing benzos is a horrific Injustice. There are thousands if not millions who have been damaged by prescribed benzos, TAKEN AS DIRECTED. Please many of us are in horrific physical and mental condition due to trusting doctors and being assured that these drugs were benign. I wish the doctor would put a disclaimer or some such thing on this video. Thank you.

Thanks Dr B for not only your science but the magic words -kind & comfortable . Unfortunately in NSW Australia there is a purge by the NSW Health Department Pharmaceutical Services Bureau to yank people often these medications . Many doctors retire or a bullied into not writing albeit a taper . I have done several searches and there is 1 help line & service in another state . I have asked 4 Pharmacys if they have ever tapered . No . Yes benzos were overprescribed & I concur with the sometimes terrible consequences of poly drug use . However totally pulling off patients with No ! !!!!!!!Options imo is unscientific, cruel & dangerous. This is now the norm here, unless a patient finds a specialist willing to but I have found none . I know several very functional older people who face this dilemma. And it’s not Xanax it’s relatively low dose diazepam - it is dealt with the same. Well can only hope science & kindness eventually reins & your information is more the norm . I also understand the black market is booming due to the consequences of what may have been a good intervention done extremely badly & with appalling scientific efficacy.

I did a hard taper. I would wait until I felt completely insane and took half of my dose that I was taking or less than half just to take away the maximum pain, then go as long as I could without it until I felt completely sick again and take just a little more gradually reducing, and then before you know it it stopped. I always tell people, you're only inducting one-tenth of what you were putting into your body on a daily just to feel normal during withdrawal, which means the rest of it is leaving your body. I love the science of it and it actually works the same with opiates but a lot of people don't have the self-control

Hi Dr. B. I want you to know how truly valuable your channel is to me. I have been on high doses of Benzos since 1994. For about 20 years, I was talking Xanax 6mg's. I asked my doctor to change me to Klonipin. I'm now on 2mg 4 x's a day. As far as generic Klonipin goes, I've tried two different types because I'm trying to find what works best for me. I've tried Teva and I'm not sure what drug company makes it, but it had an odd shaped V on one side. Neither one seems to be working very well. All over the internet, everyone say the Teva is the best, but every person who wrote about it was only talking about the 1 mg. Would you be able to recommend a generic brand that your Patients say work the best. Thank you very much. God bless you.

From Xanax to Clonazepam back and forth depending on level of anxiety. With out benzos I feel like I'm going to die. I can't function what so ever. I went to detox off Klonopin back in the day and I asked them multiple times is 3-5 days long enough to detox off this even though the half life is like 50 hours? They all couldn't believe I knew more than them when it came to these drugs. Of course I wasn't even in full withdrawal until I was already out of there for a day, then that day I was released I felt okay but then a few hours later I was in full blown benzo withdrawal. Thank God I had some left over and I had to have my doctor's wean me down slower. I can't believe my methadone doctor said stop taking benzos and take this clonidine for any withdrawal. Is that something you would prescribe for that? He didn't even say anything about weaning and now if you're on 80mg or less you can be on them now...lol
