I think when people ask this question they need to say what seed they are germinating and ambient temperature. I know it makes a difference in my seed starting.

How long does it take on average for pepper seeds to germinate? In Florida I never really saw the need for a heat mat. My pepper seeds are taking their sweet time germinating this year. I broke down and got a heat mat and I'm using a dome, they are still slow to germinate. The seeds are from last year so age shouldn't be a problem I don't think. My best germination is putting the center of the pepper seed clump in the compost bin and watch them sprout, then you have a lot of plants of the same variety.

I can usually get bell pepper seeds to germinate in 5-7 days. Hot peppers usually take longer. The hotter the pepper, the slower it is. I've had some take two weeks or more.
