The educational system of most European countries is charged with the task of giving each pupil a CEFR B2 English Level certificate at 18 years of age, at the moment of high-school "diploma". A CEFR B2 Level means that you are able to *read* and *understand* an article - or even a book - using a dictionary and that you are able to *understand* a simple "talk" with English subtitles (like TED Talks). From a CEFR B2 Level to C2 (the "fluent" level where you are at the moment), it usually takes a couple of years of *professional-level* study: at least a couple of hours per day, at least five days per week. So, it is not surprising you reached this level in this amount of time. Rather, it is surprising you found the *motivation* to do it and - most important! - that you were able to do it *alone*, from *home*. Such a performance is usually reserved for university students who *have* to do so and who do it by working in a group, working with professors and traveling. So, congratulations!

Thanks for helping me understand the process 😊 I've started listening nearly 4 months (of course just like you, I had a long time to learn EL at school but I was struggled to listen and speak), now I can watch more videos without EL subtitles but I still find it a little hard to express my thoughts, so sometimes I doubt myself if I could speak EL fluently. I think your're right, be patient! It's a long-life journey.

Wow! I am an American who loves learning languages, but am not very good at any yet. My family and I are living in Europe, do we have a great opportunity to finally be able to practice these languages. It is very easy to hear just one or two words when a person walks by me here and from even one word, I can know that they're American. Almost ALL foreigners in America and abroad have noticeable accents. You DON'T!!! You have ever SO slight an accent, it's amazing and inspiring. GOOD FOR YOU!!! People should listen to you and your advice. Also, people should appreciate how much you put into it. You have amazed, impressed, and inspired me!

I've been listening every single stuff in English for 4 months, and I am already feeling Confident, and 80% of the time I don't need subtitle to understand fast, connected speech, but when I watch movies then I need to use subtitle, but I believe that 7 months is enough to build anyone's listening skill. I guess I will not have to use subtitle very soon

@subhodipdas1954
@subhodipdas1954 3 года назад
@@azertyssement1 Don't watch movies to improve listening skills, you should watch sitcom at the beginning, by watching sitcoms you get to interact with daily life conversation, how to question someone, how to answer it, get to know new vocabularies, I personally suggest you to start watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S | Turn on your subtitle but try to not look on subtitle too much, try to focus on their face, mouth movement when they talks, try to trick your brain that you can understand everything, start meditating daily, by doing meditation daily you can easily focus on everything, just feel the present then you won't have to struggle with this. ❤️

May be is harder when our native language is spanish, or portuguese, francés etc, but we can do it.

My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!

Maybe you need a way to relax in between sets of hard studying. For me works listening nice song, but in English. So I decided to kill to birds with one stone - relax and don't stop in the same time.

In fact, it's very individual and even circumstantial, Hanna. There are few factors, according to my observation (I am not a spring chicken, unfortunately). So: a) motivation, b) time, c) brain ability & age, d) the possibility to focus on the material every single time + some others, considered less important. I like your combination of diplomatic and sharpness, used in your comments. Well done. Thank you. Stay healthy, three of you, and hopefully your loved in Ukraine have been doing relatively well.

Njd, This is unbelievable. You had to explain something that is very clear. Let me try to say a phrase from Spanish to English "The good listener, less words" (Hope you can get what I want to say) When people have a good understanding, they don't need this kind of videos to understand your process. Nowadays people are so lazy and the want to get everything easy without using their Brain. I am not English speaker, Iam living in Australia, been here for more than 2 years and half. I don't consider myself as a fluent, though I can speak English with a good level. ( I would say like professional). As the same as you, I have had to practice every day whole day, even put myself away from Colombians and Spanish speakers, as I now what's my goal. You don't waste your time explain something that's easy to get from you video. Instead, thank you so much for take your time, make videos sharing advices to get a better level of English.

Hey Anna, You’re English is amazing … And in my opinion it is possible to be fluent in seven months in a language. I did the same experience. I was 13 years old when we moved from Russia to Germany. And I also didn’t spoke one German word. But I get it in six months. I know it was a completely different situation. Then I was visiting school and got friends they were native speaker. So it’s easier to catch a language. Now I’m studying English for three years by myself watching RU-vid videos and reading a lot.It is a bigger challenge. But I See me progressing step by step. I don’t sound native, but it doesn’t matter. The fun and the progress are all what counts. I love your videos, they are pretty motivated. So keep going … Have a good one

Psychology says if your really consistent, then you only need 6 months to learn any language (not fluent but at least you can communicate with people in that language). Like I said before yes, I learned English in just six months. If you don't believe that I guess that's okay. I practiced 10 hours a day (listening+reading+learning phrasal verbs+imitating actors for hours and talking to people outside (stepping out of comfort zone)). Many people won't achieve their goals :- not because lack of desire, but lack of commitment.

I am sorry to hear you had so much trouble with people being angry. It sounds like the people themselves weren't of good enough English level themselves since they couldn't infer from what you said that it was following the 'listening'. However, even then, there are famous polyglot and teachers who claim they can teach you a language in 3 months. And with the right kind of dedication, I believe this is possible. I am learning my 4th language and if I had the kind of time to put in, I would be able to start communicating in such a short time. Not perfectly but yes communicating. I can't see how 7 months would be such a drama. So please be encouraged. I recommend to all of my students to follow you because of how valuable I find the information in your videos. You are doing great and are helping a lot of people. Thank you!

Simply, because, you are Brilliant & put alots of Efforts to speak English Fluently & too many People just think that can be a same as you do Speak, in just a Short period of Time, but guess What? They need to Study & Practice for at least 5 to 6 years & maybe more than that. To become Fluent & catch your Beauty Accent, they need to add another Two Years. The Total of Effort & time, will approximately reach around 8 years. Anna, Tell me, am I right or Wrong? I know alots of People who spend Half a Century in the USA, & Still cannot speak just the Way you do. Honestly * Congratulations & Stay Study & Confident of Yourself. A Great Self Esteem & mindset🌹🍀🍒

You were in contact with English since you were a 4 years kid. So, it's possible that you actually had an amount of "inconscient" knowledge of English in your brain, and all that you had to do is to train systematically your listening and speaking. Although that took 1.5~2 years to be achieved. Almost the same situation of most of us, coming from the traditional educational system in a non-English speaking country.

It would have been so much less misleading if it were in levels. Like “I was B1 after college and now, 5 years later, I am C1+”. Otherwise all these numbers you mention, like 25 years of learning, 2 years of learning, 7 months of listening precise are pretty vague in terms of the results. What’s really good level of English? B2, C1, C2? Intermediate, Advanced, Proficiency? How many words? 3,5,10 thousand or more? Without any precision in the language level people will constantly wonder what exactly you are talking about. If you say that you were B1 two years ago and after hard work you are C1 now- no one would feel deceived by that. It’s precise, it’s realistic. Otherwise it does sound far-fetched.

Define 'fluent'. I think you confuse fluency and full mastery. Natives make mistakes too. A different kind of mistakes but still. And a rather limited vocabulary at times. I have met a Kiwi lady that didn't know what an 'expat' was and a Britisher who'd make many spelling mistakes.

I totally agree with you. I've been studying english since 2016, and after 2 years I also had a good level of english, but to date, I'm still learning a lot of stuff. It's weird cuz even after so many years I don't feel fluent at all even if I speak well and understand a lot, because I know that there is a huge field for me to learn yet.
