About 125kW average isn’t bad.

Now days I typically drive less than 50 miles each day (like nearly every commuter on this planet), so I only need to replace about 12kWh of juice each evening. Replacing the 12kWh hours I use each day takes a little over 90 minutes on my home's Level 2 charger. But in reality I only need to charge once a week. Since (like every one else on this planet), I have nothing else I can be physically doing while I'm asleep I use the time to fully recharge my car every Sunday night. Takes less time out of my life than scheduling a trip to the gas station each week. With over 300 miles of range I've never needed to use a public charger.

Yes, I agree. EV seems a good option for commuting. My only concern is traveling and I tow an Airstream. So far, watching videos, it appears to be an overall 2 hours travel, 1.5 hours charge- of course depending on charger.

Yes, please do the 150KW charger for comparison. Also, can you remind viewers that most people most of the time will not be charing their vehicles this way (they'll charge at home)? As you can see by some of the comments, people have a hard time wrapping their head around the fact that they'll only need to charge like this on the occasional road trip. Most of the time you'll actually be saving time by not stopping at filling stations.

Time is money and time cannot be replaced. Assuming that you only had to drive 5 minutes out of your way to reach the charging station and assuming that there was no one ahead of you, that adds the value of 1 hour of your time to the $12.29 to charge the vehicle. Assuming that your salary is sufficient to allow you to afford a vehicle like this, how much is an hour of your time worth? Sounds like an expensive fill up to me even if the charging was free.

I am not sure if this is the charger or Ford for the charge time. Tesla vehicles charge at a much faster rate than this. 10% to 80% is usually less than 30 min on a 150kW charger and 15 min on a 250kW charger. This is enough time to grab a meal or go to the washroom.

Ford needs to improve the charging rate for the Lightning. Our e-tron will hold 150 Kw all the way to 80%, before slowly tapering down...still holding 50Kw at 95%. Audi keeps a buffer in the battery pack to allow for higher charging rates, while preserving battery longevity.

This will be a uphill battle with people going from gas cars to EV’s in our country. We need the charging infrastructure like Tesla has, and we might have a chance to succeed at a EV adoption from domestic car manufacturers. Tesla has been building up it’s charging infrastructure for over 10 years. I really doubt the US government will build and maintain enough charging systems for all the EVs that will be sold here in the next 5 years. I do believe Tesla has offered to let Ford to use it’s chargers under a pilot membership program. This could help make EV adoption happen. I hope.

Make sure when you compare the rivian you take into consideration that 10-80% (70%) of the lightning 131 KW battery is slightly more than the rivian. So to do apples to apples, you would want to make sure that you deliver the same number of KWh to the rivian as you did to the lightning. This is just for road trips. Just like everything there are pros and cons. A big pro for EVs is that for typical daily driving, all you have to do is plug in when you get home and wake up in the morning with a full charge. You never have to worry about getting to a gas station. But, the exchange is that on road trips you do have to charge for longer periods, typically 30-45 minutes.
