They have to build a new training complex, re structure their youth academy and probably build a new one, hire more and better quality coaching, medical staff and build a new medical facility , improve the infrastructure around the club and in it, probably hire a sporting director, buy some defenders in January and stay up then they can talk about attracting big players from abroad.

That was several years ago. Took Chelsea 2 seasons and a lot of money, took City 4 seasons and even more money. Today with FFP restrictions, a more competitive league at the top end and many top clubs competing for the same players it’ll take some time for Newcastle to get up there though I believe they will. 4-5 years to be competing for Champions League places like Leicester and probably around 8 till they’re having a serious run at titles.

FFP for them is restricted to 180 mill per season over 3 years....OR......they could blow 3 years in one go like Everton have done and find themselves with no money to spend in the second/third season. Problem, like Everton have had also, is that once clubs know you have money, the price of average players goes through the roof. I mean 40 mill each for Siggurdson and Awobi is insane.
