The LXX preserves a more ancient Hebrew text than the Masoretic text... The Masoretic text has this one wrong... (There's also some age issues in the genealogies in the Masoretic text vs the LXX)
Thanks for your comment. I don't know if I would say that LXX is qualitatively better than the MT. The authors of the LXX were definitely concerned with cleaning up the original, so it has been edited to be more streamlined. The MT is based off what is currently being called the proto MT, of which some 5% has been been found within the Judean Desert dating to approx. 2,000 years ago. Of that 5% of texts found, which are random sections of Torah text found at sites outside of the Qumran community, they are near identical to the current MT. @@JoeBack I don't think the LXX is ALWAYS better than the MT (both have problems), but I definitely think the LXX and the MT should be used critically and in parallel... Thanks for the article...
