I have Georgetown 335 DS V10 and I installed Siless 4mm liner under the engine hump and it dropped decibel level at least 20%. When going up steep hills at 4500 rpm you actually hear engine noise coming out the tailpipe more than under your feet in the cab. Its an inexpensive add that makes a huge difference in cabin comfort. Also decreases engine heat from creeping in to the cab.

Hey Joel and Emma, nice scenic video. I actually enjoy the driving clips you put up. You keep it interesting and don't go overboard on the length of time showing it. Another part of your videos that I enjoy and learn from, is all the different aspects and situations you experience and film. I thought the 7,3 Godzila was more quiet than the V10 6,8 on the open road. But the V10 has more noice downhill and uphill at towing mode.

Our vintage 1996 Fleetwood (454 Chevy engine) wasn't very quiet originally. Probably not as loud as yours, but we our engine maximum torque is 2400-2800 rpm. With the operating rpm lower, that makes it quieter. We did install 1/2" thick sound deadener, and heavy mats on the floor. Lastly, the Banks air cleaner top (made from cast aluminum) almost silenced the engine. I'd add sound insulation, and heavy rubber floor mats to kill the sound vibration.

Diesal engine coaches, yes do cost more, but they retain their value much better over gas coaches. Plus, the smallest diesel engines have at least 2x the torque over the biggest gas engine, and the biggest diesal engines have 2,000+ lbs ft. torque. They can haul more, and have higher quality interiors amongst many other things

Only in America does something that is 30 feet long have a gas engine.. Diesel just makes way more sense if you’re driving it.

Ive had a Fumoto drain valve on my 7.3 diesel truck for 10 years. Since I worked for a truck fleet for 25 years that used them i thought it was a great thing. And while traveling I'd stop at Walmart and get the oil changed sometimes. Some stores wouldn't touch it because they said they couldn't torque the drain cock. 50% of the time I found ones that were smart enough to realize it wasn't a problem. Always wanting a gas class A I've wondered about how difficult it was to get into gas stations since we would be pulling a car.

I am glad you put this up, it seems not much has changed as far as performance goes. We live in the mountains and our 96 adventure seems to be on par with your 7.3 for hill climbing. Overall the only time it is annoying is long hiils or steep hills, other than that they dont feel under powered. We want to tow and your video helped decide i may need to buy a diesel.

I’m not a diesel fan myself. I have the E450 6.8 v10 I do not like to have to deal with the DEF on diesel engines the cost of diesel. So I think you made the right choice. I never thought about using the tow haul button before I will have to try that. On steep winding hills when I am going down I use Lower gears instead of the brakes but that’s only when I’m going slow.

Yeah, the power of diesel engines is wonderful, but definitely a few downsides as well! I do not miss DEF at all. It was just a clunky process, especially since there are few DEF fills near fuel pumps in the Seattle area. And oh yeah, that little T/H button makes it all very easy! 🤘

I have a new GT7 with the v8. Spent a lot of time and a decent amount of money "soundproofing" the cab. Layered the floor forward of the steps with sound deadening mat ( including doghouse) then covered that with indoor/outdoor carpet with a rubber backing. Then installed aluminum backed foam insulation UNDER the cabin area. Biggest difference made was the done with the doghouse. I filled in the areas under it that had no foam insulation clear to the edge. Then covered the entire underneath with a second layer. The only time is is what I call loud is when the clutch fan on the engine kicks in on hills. But that isn't too often. Cruising at 65-70 mph the wind noise is louder than the engine. MUCH better than what the factory provided.

I've also heard that the foam under the doghouse cover makes the biggest difference as well! We feel the heat from the engine on the floor after a drive, so a rubber mat is definitely in order at some point.

Good morning guys I have a 2012 Georgetown 360 with a V10 and I have to say it is one of the quietest motorhomes I've heard. I wonder if the V8 is as quiet as mine. I know the carpet on the hump makes a difference. Enjoy your vacation in Cali. Be safe.

We came up over that pass going north in a snow storm. Fed ex messed everyone up because they were spinning out. We had to stop and chain up because of that.

I’ve seen my UT Health East Texas ambulance and it was an E-450. While it was passing by the train crossing, I did heard the V8 itself accelerating a lot, so I’m guessing that it wasn’t straight piped because if the ambulance was straight piped, it would disrupt the driver of the EMS, the paramedics and the patient itself if it was that loud.

Ha! Not sure what you are comparing it too, but I feel the F53 V8 is very loud when pulling hills. It is quite difficult to carry a normal conversation with a passenger or listen to music , which is why I think it is loud. My previous rig was a Ram 3500 Cummins pulling a 45' triple axle 5th wheel, and it was very quiet. Also previously owned an 8.3 Cummins Diesel pusher which was also super quiet. Over the years I have also owned numerous 1 ton dually trucks with V8 & V10 gas engines and V8 & inline 6 diesel engines, and all of them were much much quieter than the F53. I race cars with open exhaust, so I know what loud is, and I know what quiet is, these F53's are LOUD by any standard IMHO. The issue/reason is you are sitting right next to the engine, so even without the roar of the cooling fan, the engine noise alone is very high. However, I will say this: The 7.3 V8 engine is a beast, I am very impressed with the power; it's no diesel by any stretch, but for a gasser and with realistic expectations it does very well in the big motorhomes.

When you were sharing the video of your gauges while driving I was fixated on the 7.3mpg average. I appreciate the lower upfront cost of a gas versus diesel powered RV, but wondered if your needs are such that you don’t drive the RV much compared to those driving across country. I wonder what the cost-benefit analysis would be between the gas versus diesel when considering how one plans to use the RV, fuel cost and maintenance of the engine. You use it more as a home compared to those driving across country.

That's a good question and definitely something we compared as well. We put somewhere between 10-18k miles on each year, so that's definitely a factor. The fuel economy is similar enough in the diesel pushers and that savings is negated with the DEF and maintenance costs. Fuel is currently higher everywhere we've seen for diesel as well. We did consider that we could save money over the lifespan of the engine depending on how long this engine lasts us before it requires a replacement, though a $20k motor install is still cheaper than the $100k+ upgrade during the purchase. We couldn't justify the cost any way that we cut it given that we couldn't find a layout that would work for our style. I think the people that go with the DPs really care about the ride quality and finishes, towing, etc more than the cost of the unit!

Recently found your channel. It would be better to measure noise more objectively, without the compression of the camera. Even though it may not be spot on, a sound meter app would probably be more applicable. It would also allow comparison between circumstances - driving in light traffic, accelerating, idling, parked with the genset running, parked with big rigs running nearby, outside with big rigs, late at night next to the sweat shop with 1000 sewing machines... the list could go on...

That's awesome! Nice neighborhood. 😊 And we're much farther now, just a bit of a video delay here. Sacramento was surprisingly awesome, I gotta say. The best biking we've ever done. 😂 I think our batteries could have lasted 60 miles easily with how nice and flat it was on our ride.

that engine is VERY loud. I'll post my old 2005 Airstream with the GM 8.1 V8, mine is nearly silent by comparison.

Sorry, I couldn't hear the engine. All I could hear was dollars flying out the window every time you went up a hill. Still, that's some of the most scenic roadway in the country and you're traveling in style and luxury. Most people have to way until they're 70 to do what you're doing. You guys beat the system to be able to travel like this at your youthful age.
