Louisiana is mandating a copy of the Ten Commandments for every classroom in the state. The usual suspects are claiming that this is an attack on the First Amendment. I explain why that's ridiculous.

I completely, 100% agree. Whether it’s a specific religion or political/social view, it’s all under the umbrella of “ideologies”, something that has no useful connection to a child’s education and serves only to divide people and alienate those who disagree. Public school should be a place where everyone feels included and represented and the only way to truly do that is to make it completely neutral territory where no political, religious, or social/cultural stances are taken beyond asking students to be good and virtuous/moral people. That way no one be they conservative or liberal, Christian or Muslim, gay or straight, man or woman, black or white, etc.-can possibly have a problem.

@@wendys390 John 1:17 KJVS [17] For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. “dee-ah”, translates as through or by means of, is the original Greek word found in the manuscripts. I was being a little pedantic but it’s an important distinction that could be misunderstood by some who are unfamiliar with the Bible. We would be wise to recognize a similar situation when considering the New Testament. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJ21 [16] All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, [17] that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly equipped for all good works. The Gospel is either perfect as it claims and sufficient for all knowledge and understanding allowing those who obey it to be made perfect in Gods eyes. Or it can be disregarded as garbage, it can’t be left up to personal opinions. Denominations that have constantly evolving positions on their “Christian” doctrines are explicitly forbidden proof below; Galatians 1:6-9 KJ21 [6] I marvel that ye are so soon removed from Him, that called you into the grace of Christ, for another gospel. [7] For this is not another; but there are some who trouble you and would pervert the Gospel of Christ. [8] But should we, or an angel from Heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed. [9] As we said before, so say I now again: If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that which ye have received, let him be accursed! Taking 2 Tim 3:16-17 into consideration along with this verse; Jude 1:3 KJ21 [3] Beloved, while I was giving all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. It’s plainly obvious the 1st Christians were taught the entire gospel and all contrary doctrines are the path to destruction. Www Bible ca Great resource of denominational teachings are the specific NT gospel teachings that they are violating.

They'll be warned against thought crimes which has no place in a civilized society. They'll be admonished to honor their parents even if they aren't honorable. @ultracrep8572 I don't think you understand what the word "respecting" means in this case. It doesn't mean the government can't pay respect to a religion, particularly the religion upon which our nations fundamental values were drawn from. It means "in reference to" in the case you're mentioning. It means they can't make an established religion of the state. In Iran, it is an establishment Islam nation for example. Their laws directly draw from their scripture. In America, the underlying views the nation is founded on are ideas emphasized in the Hebrew Bible and the Greek new testament. But the laws themselves and the punishments for breaking those laws are not taken line for line from any religion. All of common law in the entire western world is fundamentally pulled from various ideas put forth in scripture. That isn't to say that you need one for the other, but those Christians you're conditioned to hate are literally the reason the entire world had to outlaw slavery.

I'm against the posting of the 10 Commandments for one reason: it's always going to be the counting someone's religion out. There's at least 7 different theological counting of the 10 Commandments. Channel Staff, Matt's a devout Catholic: the 10 Commandments in the thumbnail AREN'T THE ONES HE'LL CITE AS THE 10 COMMANDMENTS. 2 is part of 1 and 10 is split into two parts. Because you can't cycle through the countings in a poster, the State is going to decide WHICH counting to use and therefore favor a specific religion, which violates the Establishment Clause incorporated to the states. I want more religion in schools and if we could post all versions, I'd be content. However, history is clear: bringing the 10 Commandments into school is fine, but arguing over the counting invites chaos. It's actually partially why we have Catholic schools in America. The Elliot School Rebellion in 1848 Boston was about which version of the 10 Commandments a student could use. At the time, it was mandatory state law to read the Commandments each day aloud. One student refused, because he used the right counting as a Catholic, and the state determined the Protestant counting in the King James Version was correct. So he was in a bind. Next time he was asked, he refused to use the Protestant version and was beaten for a half hour by the assistant principal (on the hand, but still, a bloody hand after 30 minutes). Those who refused to read the KJV version left. At least 400 boys walked out. This is what happens when there's a good idea on the Right and it gains traction without critically thinking. It's good to hang a bell on the cat, says the mouse, but I don't want to be the one to do it.

you bring up a very good point, we will just have to see what will result from this change. the fact that this might be a way to expose someone to the 10 commandments who have never heard of them before, i think it’s a very much needed change who knows they might resonate with it and it might start their own journey into questioning their moral beliefs. i am all for introducing critical thinking into the classroom. it’s unfortunate that in the past this was such a contentious topic and even endangered the life of children, i hope now this won’t be the case. they need to put measures in place to prevent people from mistreating others who have a different version of the 10 commandments. also for those of other religions this shouldn’t be enforced onto them, but they are more than welcome to learn about it. children are a lot smarter than we give them credit for.

It's important to approach the interpretation of the Ten Commandments with an understanding of historical context and cultural significance. While some of the commandments may seem specific to the ancient Hebrew culture, many scholars and religious leaders emphasize the underlying principles of moral conduct that transcend time and cultural differences. The commandments not only address individual behavior but also promote social harmony and ethical living. Regarding specific interpretations or debates around certain commandments, it's essential to engage in thoughtful discussion and study to grasp the deeper meanings and relevance of these ancient texts in our modern world.

Morality doesn't exist in atheism because if there is no God that created mankind, there was nothing to set the foundation for morality. If we all just evolved from animals then everything is survival of the fittest and nothing is objectively or subjectively wrong. Just like how animals kill each other, fight for territory and dominance, and even kill and/or eat their own offspring. Morality is differentiating between what is objectively good and evil. Morals didn't appear out of nowhere and a god doesn't exist to have created them. So according to true atheism, morality is meaningless.

The 10 commandments is an obscenity. According to your god, one of the ten most important moral rules people should live be is: don't draw pictures of stuff. Left off the list: don't enslave people. Left off the list: don't rape anyone. Left off the list: don't abuse children. We could do very well with 49 states.

Um, the Ten Commandments are not the end all be all of God’s law. They’re the ten laws God gave to the Israelites through Moses after they were freed from slavery in Egypt. There’s dozens more commandments in the rest of the Bible. Even if the Ten Commandments were the only law, you clearly don’t understand them. For example, “no graven image” refers to idolatry. Pictures made for purposes other than worshiping them are just fine. “ Adultery” refers to any sexual relations outside of a man and a woman lawfully married, including rape. Abusing children is also wrong according to the laws of God, it’s just not in these ten. In His Earthly ministry, Jesus compares the suitable punishment for abusing a child as worse than having a millstone tied around your neck and being tossed into the sea. Point being: abusing children is a no go. In the four gospels, Jesus explains that the two greatest commandments are to love God and love thy neighbor. And I don’t think slavery is considered loving.
@danaaronmusic
@danaaronmusic 3 месяца назад
@@noiamnotaweasley3920 It's fun to make stuff up, isn't it? BTW, I'm pretty sure killing people is also not considered loving, but god included it anyway. And yes, the intent of the prohibition on graven images is to prevent idolatry, but the commandment just says no graven images, period. Funny how an omnipotent god is so afraid of not being able to compete with a bunch of idols. And just out of curiosity, do you obey all the "dozens" (actually, hundreds) of other commandments in the Bible? If not, have fun in h*ll!

You're wrong on this one. It is blatantly unconstitutional to put anything related to your religion in a taxpayer-funded classroom. The First Amendment clearly states that the government cannot make a law regarding the establishment of religion. By mandating that a christian symbol is displayed in the classroom, it is imposing a religion. Ask yourself if you'd be equally as excited if the law required muslim symbols to be displayed in the classroom.
@Bullet3NTQ305
@Bullet3NTQ305 3 месяца назад
It's important to remember that the display of the Ten Commandments in classrooms is not about imposing a specific religious belief on students. These commandments are not only a fundamental part of Christian faith but also hold historical and cultural significance. They have influenced our legal system and moral values for centuries. Displaying them in classrooms can serve as a reminder of the principles upon which our society was built, rather than as a means of promoting Christianity over other religions. Furthermore, the Ten Commandments can be understood from a secular perspective as a set of moral guidelines that are universally recognized.
@Anti-Taxxer

@@Anti-TaxxerYour assertion that the Christian God demands to be loved above all else oversimplifies the theological teachings surrounding concepts of love and devotion within Christianity. In Christian theology, the call to love God is often understood in terms of reverence, gratitude, and a deep sense of devotion rather than a coercive demand for worship.
@adanaamun7921
@adanaamun7921 3 месяца назад
I agree with a set of moral rules and standards to go by. However, this does not represent freedom of religion found in the constitution. Religion should be separated from the classroom, but morals and standards should be required of young people. Religion is the parents' responsibility to teach, not the government.

Freedom of religion is not the same thing as freedom from religion. Putting something on the wall isn't forcing it on someone. If so, then every pride flag in the nation is about to be legally taken down. Which is what the actual purpose to this move is. The anti-christian bigoted hypocrisy of the alphabet mob is about to be a national conversation, because they're losing their minds over this and not self aware enough to see the hypocrisy.
