@@toshmarie3499 No status counts as status! Asceticism is itself a status statement. "I don't care about status" carries a status with it. It's like, you transcend the whole status race, and therefore, you're better than the people chasing status because you're not chasing status (and therefore imply you already have it). There is no escape! We all communicate (a) status. I see these places as a tool shop. The Home Depot caters to those whose craft concerns construction. Poor people cannot afford these items. Middle class comfortably off people buy them. Some people don’t have money for food, they are *not* buying these things. I think that while the really expensive items are for the privileged and their assorted pets and family, the biggest amount of money is made from affordable wares such as accessories, perfumes and tons of makeup. "It's the last one in stock" is a very common sales tactic, not exclusive at all to luxury brands. When helping a friend buy a laptop years ago, I heard that same sentence, first at Circuit City, then a few minutes later at Best Buy. Both salesmen made us wait a while for them to "check" if they had any still left on stock. The salesman at at Best Buy was speechless when I told him: "you still have one left? How lucky we are, because the same thing happened at Circuit City".

When I see queues outside of 'luxury' stores I can only shake my head. It reminds of the Soviet era bread lines. What on earth feels luxurious about standing in line to purchase something? The extremely slow service in these stores is also off putting. Time is valuable. These tactics are not designed for high net worth individuals. She's all about experiences. We do very well for ourselves financially but the way we live some people wouldn't know it. We don't blow money on expensive items but we take amazing family trips. $5,000 spent on a trip making memories with our three children is so much better than buying an outfit that'll be worn out in a year or less. So many people need to enjoy life to the fullest instead of being more concerned about what they are putting on their body or feet. @@alexi9583 PVC type bag from Burberry £1200. Manufacturing costs my arse. The problem I have here is why are you defending this? It’s true. Anyone who wants to buy designer goods, no problem. It’s your money, you earned it and good luck to you. Designer clothes always used to be made in Italy. 🇮🇹 Now it’s places like Vietnam and Turkey, I wonder why? This is pure fleecing and exclusivity marketing. Obviously, they don’t want everyone buy the same stuff, losing its appeal. But are you telling me a Hermes Birkin bag costs more than a £1000 to make that retails for £10K plus? The LV group is one of the most profitable companies in the world. Run by one of the world’s richest family. This is a transactional business and don’t you forget that. It’s all about the green.

Funny enough, the popular luxury brands like LV, Gucci (although they're getting back to quality) & Prada, Balenciaga etc..., when I used to buy their clothes or accessories, they would peel very quickly. When I started wearing Brunello Cucinelli, Thom Brown, Tom Ford, Zegna, Zilli, Brioni, the quality is through the roof. They're going to last you years and still look AND fit like it's brand new. It's like the popular brands take the same approach as fast fashion but just charge ridiculous markups. So I don't believe luxury brands are rip offs, I believe you just have to know what you're buying in terms of quality vs paying for the brand name and that's when I realised there are two sides to Luxury fashion. One sides prioritises hype, exclusivity and branding, that's your Gucci, LV, Balenciaga, Prada etc... The other side prioritises quality, structure, fit and longevity, I mentioned some of them earlier. You can find a Hoodie for $200 that is more quality than a $800 hoodie at the same time you can find an $800 hoodie that is impossible to find at a lower price-point unless you make it yourself, it all comes down to the brands objective & purpose. Again, some brands prioritise hype, branding and exclusive drops more than quality and that's how they justify their price-point, while you can have another brand at the same price-point that solely prioritises the quality, structure, fit and longevity of their clothing and that's how they justify the exact same price point. It all comes down to if you know what you're buying.

Manufactured Scarcity & Exclusivity: Luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Rolex deliberately limit product availability to create a sense of urgency and exclusivity, making their items more desirable. Price Priming & Status Symbolism: These brands set high prices not based on production costs but on the value of social status they project, turning their products into status symbols. Neuromarketing & Customer Experience: Brands like Balenciaga use neuromarketing to study consumer behavior and emotions, optimizing their marketing strategies, while also focusing on providing a premium customer experience to ensure loyalty and repeat purchases.

Left after I felt like the job was so meaningless and was all about persuading people to buy things that they don't really need. It's not just luxury fashion brands, all big multinationals like Unilever and Nestle invests millions of dollars into market research companies globally. It's sad that some of the world's finest psychologists, sociologists and ethnographers work for these big companies instead of the healthcare or education sectors. Every single colour, smell and fragrance of even everyday household products have had a massive amount of research done to see which one's capture human senses the most.

I've lived in NYC and Miami and have been around the rich and the poor. The poor always had luxury brand items that advertised the brand. I would see them buying the loudest luxury items and paying for it in cash in small bills they probably saved for weeks or months. The rich often fooled me into thinking they were middle class because their shoes, pants, and shirts looked like plain clothes; until I asked them about it and discovered they were wearing $800 sneakers, $500 jeans, and $200 t-shirts from brands I never heard of and only other rich people would recognize. The truly rich wear 'quiet luxury'. It's not a leather belt with a big 'G' on it to advertise Gucci. It's a plain leather belt with a normal belt buckle that cost $300 because it's made of the finest leather and craftsmanship. In fact the less the item shows the brand, the more exclusive it seems and the more desirable it becomes to the truly rich, because it means you bought it a small store that only those on the 'inside' know of. To drive the point home, I was complemented and asked about a Hermes black fabric bracelet I was wearing with gold on the tips and a gold 'H' in the middle which held the band together. The man who asked me owns several jewelry stores and shopping centers. He never realized that Hermes never made such a bracelet and I bought it on Shein for $1.85, but I was happy to take the compliment.

When you pay a lot of money for a “luxury brand” and the quality is only average, or it’s even low quality, it’s fake luxury. Quite often you pay for the brand, but not for the quality. It’s not real luxury, only good marketing.

Actually it’s much deeper than that. Humans are primally wired to seek after strength and wholeness. Anything that gives off the impression of need/lack/want/desire doesn’t show “Strength/wholeness” to a certain type of people. People that do resonate with someone that needs help are either genuinely good people or someone with an ulterior motive. Ultimately be you, ask for help when necessary, and don’t beg anyone for attention. You’re worth more than that.

In India, it’s common to see normal people even workers and small shop owners wearing brands like Supreme, Gucci, Dior, Armani, and even Rolex. However, these are often first-copy products, made in India or China. Because these replicas are so widespread, why would anyone buy the authentic items and still fell in such category. After all, here $20 Gucci T-shirt looks almost identical to one that costs $1,500. This prevalence of imitation goods creates a sense of caution, as no one wants to inadvertently fall into the “fake premium” category.

I was brought up in a sophisticated family. I value high literature art etc. I would die of shame if I have to wear those tasteless clothes which screams „I have nothing to offer as a personality and character, I have such a low self esteem and I think about myself I’m worth almost nothing so I have to wear at least something which screams hey, I’m somebody because I can buy it“. I actually pity all of them a lot. They reduce themselves literally for something which can be bought for money. The obligatory „you can’t buy class or people to genuinely like you“.

Yes, you're right about everything in this video. But I fail to see the point highlighting these tactics? None of these were secrets to begin with, and consumers of luxury goods are perfectly cool with all that. At the end of the day the consumer is a happy camper for owning an item at a price he/she deemed fair, however large that amount may be. No-one got hurt, no-one got scammed, no-one went home feeling bad. There are a lot worse things happening in the world than manipulative sales tactics.

I do about 250K a year. 90% I’m wearing clothes from a thrift store. No joke. I do dress up for occasions though. I use fast food apps for deals on food. I have big feet, size 14/15 and my brother in law is 6”11’. If he doesn’t like his shoes I wear his hand me downs. I subscribe to SuperCuts $189 a year for unlimited haircuts or go to my local college for free student hair cuts, Top Roman is a staple in my pantry, and my entire house (I own 3) is furnished with market place furniture. Couldn’t care less. I look like a bum 90% of the time. But what you can’t see is my investment accounts 😏 I do however spend on travel. To me that’s priceless.

You are a very wise man! Only insecure and vain people care about brands! You don't need to buy overpriced items to look good! I have around 30k in savings , that I'm trying to save more to invest. Most of my clothes are from H&M, I only spend more money in shoes or trainers for obvious reasons . I would never spend money in something so futile because it won't make me feel better but stupid . It's a shame that poor people can't see it . That's another reason to not but them , they want to make it exclusive but you see these brands everywhere and worn by anyone .
