Yo, shout out to that voice actor! The voice actor along with the music added quote a bit of depth to the game. What is your plan for NPC dialogue, is it all text based or will there be voice acting?
At the moment, the plan is all text based but now that we have a rad actor for the trailer, I'm looking into making the cutscenes with actors... it would definitely bring some ✨to the game.
Oh my gosh.. WELL DONE!! The last line of the trailer. Gave me chills! Been following your Devlogs since the first one and it is always a pleasure to see the progress!! ♥
Yes! Thanks for saying that! I was running and thinking of the trailer and that line ("I wasn't the first Traveler but I would certainly be the last") was stuck in my head. And I basically built the whole trailer around that specific line. So it REALLY warms my heart that you'd say this.
Oh the finish line will definitely get reached. This is my sixth game... I'm not good at much but I know how to finish a project. This will be my best game by far though!
That trailer was incredible, really top notch stuff! I’ve got big plans for the Nights Stones redraw video (so big I had to learn a new software haha) But I’m glad it’s taking me so long because this trailer just gave me sooo many new ideas! Great job again, and thank you so much for the shout out. The VFX looks great in your game!
Yeaaaaaaaaaah! What’s up dude? So good to see you here and I hope you like what I used your stuff for. Thanks so much for for your help. And no rush on the redraw. I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to call you out publicly (since we’re friends). You’re amazing.
NO WAY!? What's up? You're a legend. Thanks so much for the comment. Dude, your content is so RAD and was extremely helpful to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'm sure I still made a ton of mistakes but I would have made so many more without your help. Seriously -- thank you!
I never comment on youtube videos, but I have to say, as an artist, and game developer myself, this trailer blew me away. I even got a little bit teary eyed, because of how it inspires me. In the words of Val Garland, Ding dong! well done!
Wouldnt it be cool to have a pet IN GAME. like a dog to follow you around or something else. Maybe like a little companion that just follows you around. Itd probobly be hard to implement though. I just think itd be cool. But again you already built the world so much itd be hard to do something like that. Definitely buying th game when it comrs out
Thanks for the constructive feedback. This is good to hear. I'm trying to convey the exploration and puzzle gameplay elements of the game and now I know these are not reaching you. Any suggestions for how I improve? Thanks for your help!
@@advancenine Maybe just a few more seconds showing how some of these mechanics actually do stuff. Like you show flying several times, but it looks like demo flying - just a second or two of showing you flying to a hidden treasure on the backside of a cliff or something would at least confirm that flying has a purpose in the game. Running away from mobs for example, is hardly engaging gameplay. But trapping them, dispatching them with the environment, manipulating their movement etc could be. And maybe that's all in the game. But as far as I can tell from the trailer the gameplay is just running away from them. The quick clip of you blowing up a wall with a bomb is more like what I'm talking about. Showing off an actual mechanic. Like imagine if instead of you blowing up a wall you were just throwing a random bomb at a bush lol that's kind of what a lot of the clips feel like to me. I've played a lot of walking simulators too without much/any game mechanics and some were quite good, but those had really emotional and deep stories. I don't know if a little kid dreaming about saving an animal town or something is gonna do all the heavy lifting for you (but just like everything else I've written, maybe I'm wrong). So yea that's my 2c. I love your videos, and the game does indeed look gorgeous. Sorry if I sound like a curmudgeon. Wish you the best!
Trailer was great. The end card with the image of the kid was great - but ... kinda makes the actual character look a little clunky? I think he's the least likeable visual part of the game. Not sure what would fix it, but I'm sure some small tweeks by an artist would really help.
i'd advise to periodically switch up the running animation because the trailer has a lot going on around but the running (in the center) is always the same and it gives a "stale"/boring feeling. Since the gameplay is (as i see it) mostly running, it could really liven up the game.
Really enjoying this series so far, the game's coming along nicely! I'm an English nerd, so one consistency detail that bothers me is the punctuation and capitalization of text. You start with an all lower case, no period "well hello, traveler", and then all uppercase "YOU BLEW UP THE PORTAL!?" - Initially I assumed that was an aesthetic choice, but then at 6:58 an NPC says "How did you get in here?" with a proper capital letter at the beginning of the sentence. It might be worth revisiting your text to make sure it's consistent. Personally, I don't like all lower case dialog balloons, but your mileage may vary.
Hey, this is solid feedback and you are 100% correct. I was gonna to have the game be all lowercase and informal like texting but then I realized this is the wrong approach. What you see in the trailer is my changing my mind midstream. And I didn't reshoot the lowercase sequences because "no one will notice". Lol. Shows what I know. Thanks for the help. I'll fix it.
can you add compaions, like pets that would evolve overtime, I could say an inspiration between pokemon evolve mechanics but to not populate the world with those also an inspiration of a game like FATE: The Traitor Soul. personally I always like to have a companion option in adventure games like these, and I believe a lot of people would too. The game already looks amaazing, thanks for your hardwork
Thanks tor your awesome comment. I’ll def be adding at least one companion to the game. I don’t have any plans to have them evolve but dang that’d be a cool idea. Let me see what I can do. Thank you!
Fantastic trailer! Can’t wait to play this with my 6 year old daughter. The first thing she’s going to ask is if there’s a girl character she can play as so…if you’re looking for kickstarter ideas, I’d be on board for that one!
Dude, this is such rad feedback. I'd be honored if your daughter played the game. Thats a really good Kickstarter idea and I have something in mind so I appreciate you letting me know this is something she would like :)
Sweet project mate. What's your take on the whole Unity drama. I imagine that you got asked it before, feel free to point me if you already commented on it.
I didn’t have a strong take on it because it just seemed to crazy to actually come to fruition. I’m glad the pricing is more aligned with reality now and hopeful the drama is over…
I’m not even a game developer, but have been following the devlog since the first one and i’m allways amazed by the progress and the dedication you put into this game. Keep up the good work man, allways a pleasure to watch your videos!
Such a good question. It's not necessarily bad... its just every story has to end and this story ends here. But I would love for the game to be successful so I could do a prequel that explains the events leading up to Night Stones.
Man this is seriously looking incredible! Something I'm slightly concerned about, mostly because I don't know much about it, is since there isn't combat I hope there's ways that encounters remain fresh and doesn't get repetitive. It'd be great to have different things to do or think about in each new encounter, and that there's hopefully a good variety of enemies (or at least a good selection of different Night Walker varieties that aren't all just the same ones over and over...) just something to consider. Again this is looking incredible and I cannot wait to get my hands on it!
Hey! Your feedback is super valid and I share your concern. The one guy who can't tell if its "fun enough" is me. I'm just too close to it at this point. So I am beyond pumped to bring in some alpha testers through Kickstarter. If the game needs something else (like combat), then that's the way it'll be. I really want Night Stones to be fun -- that's priority #1. Thanks for your helpful insight :)
that was great. i really like the bedroom seen, but i feel like the sleeping pose could use a little more work. overall amazing. good luck with nightstones
I have been following you ever since devlog 1 THIS IS PEAK. i hope you continue on and turn this game into a real life dream. btw how much is the game again i already forgot :)
Hey! Your one of my favorite RU-vidrs and have inspired me to make my own game. I have watched all your dev logs too! But I would like to make a suggestion and ask a question. Will Night Stones Be Free or Payed? Also I think that you should add the ability to get more gear besides the owl glider, and to be able to upgrade that gear to give you power ups like speed. Also I just saw the BlackThronProd video too, and you did so good!
Wow thanks for the kind words! I really appreciate it. The game will be paid because I don't want to monetize it with ads and microtransactions. I want to make it as beautiful as possible :) And good call on more abilities. I definitely have more planned so I'm glad you think this is a good idea. Thanks for being awesome.
Wow, it looks amazing Ryan! I was wondering if you would consider implementing Save Data Bonus at a later date. That’s when a game can read the save data of other games to give secret bonus content. For instance, Zelda TOTK will import all your horses from BOTW to the stable. Obviously, this depends on whether you’ll spend more time developing new games or supporting the current one. This could be a cool way to have multiple parallel “sibling” games that each have a unique mechanic, and owning multiple games in the series gives you multiple ways about the same puzzle. For instance, NightStones has the glider as a big way of moving, and another game could have a boat or something. It’s really far out, but it could add a whole lot. Just idle speculation on my part
This is such a cool idea and I've never considered it so thanks for mentioning it. Since I'm a fanboy of so many games, this would be a great way to add homage to the classics. Thanks for this. You rule!
The trailer looks awesome, great job. I just wanted to point out the glider looks just grey, as without a texture, at 6:34. Maybe that’s an upgrade, I don’t know. Keep up the great work. I’m so excited for the release. :)
Wow you have a great eye! I need to update the glider model to have a “backside” for the wings. They are grey because under the glider, there are no faces so you just see the grey outline. It’s on my todo list and I left it in the trailer cus “no one will notice”. Shows what I know. I’ll fix it in the next version and you are freakin rad for helping me. Thank you!
Sorry you feel that way. I appreciate your feedback. I liked having friends and family test the game before I made the trailer and now I don’t let them because I don’t want to hover over them letting them know where they can and can’t go. So I have a lot of boundary building to add before letting people play the game again.
@@kingbling7571 thank you! And I really do appreciate the feedback. I should have been more clear about the situation the trailer created and I will work to do better. So thank you!
so professional and well made makes me want to get into game dev even more and glad you shared all these tips and people, i find it very helpful and things i never thought about before i never thought about how spells were made in final fantasy 8. :O i just assumed it was one track of music. not three strung together. mind blown this video really opened my eyes :) and i been wanting to get into game dev for years now lol but this really opened my eyes up and lit them up ♥ a total inspiration thank you for sharing everything in this video, it was a real treat to watch ♥
Really nice hoy your game is progressing! And hey WOW YOUR TRAILER IS AWESOME!!! hope I will have a trailer like this when our game is more progressed... :-)
Good, luck! Trailer lookin' hot! Wish you'd replace your main character to not look so much like a bargain bin, or bag of cereal from the bottom row...Link from Zelda, but I don't think you'll be re-doing your trailer so....ah well, He's cute, but he's also really generic, and really does look A LOT like Link from the Link's Awakening Switch remake.
That’s a fantastic trailer! I just have one question, what is the character controlling like? All you have in the trailer is running, flying and swimming. I know there’s no combat, so I feel like you should be embracing all of the things that you could do that aren’t fighting as gameplay. Just a few examples: Rolling, climbing, crawling, pushing objects, throwing things. I really want to like your game. It looks and sounds gorgeous, especially for someone who doesn’t draw at all, but, as a gameplay designer myself, so far the majority of the gameplay just looks like running around and interacting with objects.
Trailer was amazing! (ESPECIALLY that last line) It got me hooked even more. I followed the Kickstarter campaign and plan on donating when it launches. You've a great game dude, good job.
Absolutely brilliant! Can't wait to play this. I'd love to try some voice acting with it as well. I'm South African and I reckon some different accents could add something interesting to it!
Love this project and im always excited to see results, but theres something thats been urking me over its development. Please take this with a grain of salt, as this is all subjective critique. It feels to me that this game missed a step in art direction. You play as a generic child, navigating a generic (albeit very technically impressive) medieval environment, speaking with generic villagers and navigating generic dungeons. Couldn't this be pushed? Expanded upon? Given some kind of twist? As I said before, this is a really impressive project and the polish on whats here is immensely impressive, but the generic elements feel like they're holding back the otherwise exceptional execution.
the bomb blowing up the wall needs to be redone. - more impactful animation for the throw - more animated bomb, perhaps swelling or flashing - more bass in the sound of exploding, bass is important for conveying power of any kind - more time before exploding, more build up - wall should crumble with physics, chunks flying out, or if thats too much, at least not just vanish in a frame - light? might not fit your style
Opened your video, noticed i wasnt subscribed. Was wondering why im not, then few seconds later you do that weird white view you keep switching to 😂 That reminded me why 😂. Why do you keep doing that? It looks bad and i just found it annoying, i cant see what benefit it could add for any viewer?
I loved the trailer! I watch a lot of devlogs and yours are by far both the most entertaining and motivating ones. It is really impressive to see how far you've come in just 6 months!
Looks very nice! Weird Woods description made me think of the worst time of day to be driving. Dark enough to need your headlights, bright enough to where they don't actually help with anything.
Its been so great to watch this as it developed! One touch I would like to suggest, when you bomb the wall like... halfway through the trailer, (its at 7:12 in the video) - the wall just disappears. Its kinda unsatisfying - I'd suggest making it shatter and then the pieces despawn after some time
This is the first time I've seen or heard of your game. The cool space pictured in the thumbnail drew me in. I think the trailer has a lot of strong elements really going for it. One thing lacking for me from it was the mission of the game. After watching the trailer I still don't know this character's mission, or how he will be the last traveler, or why that's significant. Usually presenting a novel idea is why I mentally choose to invest interest into something presented in a trailer. All of the supporting elements are there, great production, the sound, the graphics, the editing. My 2¢. I hope it makes sense. Nice job.
Loved the trailer. If I could add a critique it’s when the wizard shoots that magic spell. I feel like not emphasizing that moment in like a slow mo, better camera angles and maybe a eye candy while the blast is traveling is a miss opportunity
Awesome progress you have made in few months ... I'm developer as well, and my game progress slow but constantly. I hope you can check it out when I release it.
What is the target audience for this game? It looks like maybe its aimed at kids. Gameplay looks quite simple, artstyle very "unityesqe" and the focus in on the story.
For the trailer it feels like something is missing with that dead zone without vocals in the second half. I don't think it necessarily has to be the VA there, but it does feel to me that something is missing. If this were a combat action type game there would be volcal hits from combat during the 'ramping showcase' section, but this game isn't anything like that, nor does the Traveller make human noises when speaking. So I don't really know what I'd put there in that space, but it just feels like something that breaks up the cacophony of music and sound effects that blend into nothing.
New subscriber here. Just found your channel from watching a video of dev's making a game. You were part of that video. I wishlist this on steam already. I will be getting the game when it comes out.
amazing trailer, i just found out about you yet im already interested, kinda wished to see how the game combat would be in the trailer, or maybe the game isn't going to have combat and instead have another way of dealing with enemies? idk guess i'll check your devlogs, great job.
Tiny bit of feedback: at 5:58, I found the flying clip a bit jarring. I think it should either last a bit longer or be a clip of the character soaring rather that taking off (since there's less to mentally process that way).
I loved this @advancenine ! Well done buddy.... sooo much work in this - I can see all the work, as a fellow dev. I sent you an email to the address listed in your 'About' - hopefully it reaches you!
Hi, i have an idea for the game im sorry i didn't watch all your videos so i dont know if you have weapons in the game but if you have you could add a scythe maybe it wwould be cool. (I only saw about like 10 minutes and i love it💓)
