Malaysia's electronic industry is hailed as amongst the country's drivers for growth. Do you think they can continue to compete globally? Let us know down below!
Yes, Malaysia ideal economy weightage should be 60% Services, 25% Industry and 15% Agriculture. Malaysia agriculture has so much potential, because we have a lot of land and can leverage on advanced technology to grow food, and export to other countries.
It will. I actually sounded out my friends worried about families who are growing oil palm. I told them palm oil is a commodity that is so exposed to external vagaries. And that as a country with a small land mass, and high agrarian labour costs, we should slowly wind down the growing of palm oil and exit the industry. Leave it to countries like Indonesia. We can't compete and should just concentrate on manufacturing and services. I got a lot of knocks that day.
@@Balangair1 Malaysia should continue to manage, grow and invest in Palm Oil as Malaysia is after all 2nd largest producer in the the world! However, use more technology to reduce labor and more productive. Thats why I also said above Agriculture can grow even more once advanced tech is used
We will not compete in sub 10 nanometer node space with Intel, Samsung and TSMC which is high capital and technology intesive. We will find our niche in 12 to 28 nm node, SOC, MEMS, power electronics, solar panels where there is less competition. We will also lead in chip packaging.
Alot of people still think that oil and palm oil is our main source of revenue but they forgot that those only account to 5% of Malaysia gdp , the rest of the 77% is on exports of electronic and machines , semiconductors , etc . The rest are medical tourism, medicine manufacturing , banking and other high end cyber services .

Malaysia is actually slowly moving from over reliance on its natural resources & foreign investments on manufacturing to the financial services, which is more lucrative. For example it's already has a strong and comprehensive Islamic financial system with a robust business driven regulatory regime and legal framework to be the leading global hub for Islamic finance.
Agreed, for the past few years the financial services industry been boosting the GDP the most. Almost 40% GDP contributions coming from this industry alone.
Finance is growing and yes there is less reliance on commodities lately. But Malaysia is still very reliant on FDI. Recently there is a huge investments inflow into Malaysia mostly manufacturing. The Tun Razak Exchange project was developed with the purpose of attracting international banks to invest in Malaysia, so if anything, even the finance industry will be more dependant on FDI in the future. And relying on FDI isnt necessarily a bad thing. I mean the example of Singapore, Netherlands, Ireland, Hong Kong, etc proves that being too dependent on FDI isn't necessarily a bad thing.
The three countries that invest the most in Malaysia are the United States, China, and Japan. With its chemical petroleum, Korea has also made a substantial contribution to Malaysia, and Arab countries are keen to work with Malaysia. This has been going on for a while, and no country has ever been hesitant to invest in Malaysia because Malaysia is still on the right track to being a developing nation.

Not only Johor, Penang and Selangor have microchip factories, state of Kedah has Infineon, Malacca have Infineon and Texas Instrument while Negeri Sembilan have ON and NXP. All these companies are supported by smaller Malaysian companies making a condusive ecosystem for E&E industries.
@@JustRunX even though Intel is big in Penang. Infineon is also expanding Kulim Kedah and Batu Berendam Melacca. ON (formally Motorola) in big in NS. NXP is big in NS and Selangor. Micron and STElectronics is big in Muar, Johor. Samsung is big in NS expanding to produce batteries for EV. I think GDP is equally distributed among these states.
@@JustRunX per capita gdp among Malaysia state: 1. Putrajaya = USD 40,000 2. Kuala Lumpur = USD 31,000 3. Selangor = USD 20,000 I'm not sure where you get that info?
@Nabila-dx8xf You are entitled to the index you prefer. I chose the world HDI index coz it is more inclusive and not dependent on only one particular category. BTW, SIN beats many of the so called developed countries hands down if your measurement criteria is only based on GDP per capita alone.
Malaysia soon will be the fifth Asian tiger after South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong & Singapore a country that used to export agricultural products but is now slowly moving into a manufacturing country we are no longer a country with cheap labor costs, so we have no choice but to change the economy by investing more through R&D & learning from developed countries. it's not an easy task, because we can no longer compete with vietnam & indonesia who offer cheaper labor costs, so we have to be producers & investors. times have changed, we can no longer use the economic model like in the 90s era
Malaysia is a country with a lot of debt (67% of GDP).. only corruption and the population of Bangla and Rohingya is increasing in Malay.. they must pay the debt to Sultanate of Sulu and become Banglasia Federation 🇲🇾❤️🇧🇩🤣🤣
As much the positive tone in the video and in the comments. Semiconductor is a large and complex chain industry. M'sia is not really at the forefront of this industry. It is mostly the backend of the chain, the packaging of the finish wafer chips, testing etc. this lower end of the Semicon chain have very small margins hence why companies "outsourced" these backend task to lower wage countries in south east asia. It is still way too far behind US, Japan, EU to benefit any growth of the semiconductor industry. Major money maker such as foundries and fabless design house are more concentrate elsewhere
in reality the only benefits for businesses here are strategic positioning of the country and the cheap prices for energy. oh and the ability to easily bribe anyone is a plus too.

The majority of the electronic industry in Malaysia comes from a Japanese company, yet the main headquarters of Malaysia’s biggest electronics firm is located in Tokyo, Japan. The company name is Sony!
Yeah but the concern is still the availability of skilled workers and political stability. @@nastrogenji78why? Because your idea of what Tanah Melayu once was is not very accurate. Melaka is an excellent historical example.
