also "we have never seen a champ goes from one of the worst to one of the best" remember when runic echo came out and udyr ruled the jungle for 3 months? pepperidge farm remembers
before runic echo literally no one plays udyr except trick (and his army, including me) and a couple udyr OTP here and there ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ after runic echo his win rate skyrocketed across all elo and p/b rate was insane, iirc his winrate for plat+ was around 60% it was the first and only time in my life since S3 (when i picked him up) i actually cant play him because of perma ban
What about mundo? The e scales with your hp and the q scales on the enemy hp, basically giving you tons of damage for building a normal tank (like malphite)
Heh, originally there were about 2 years before seasons. Jungle-ing was limited to champs like amumu, nunu, and udyr, and shacko. Top lane and bot lane usually ran 2 champs each. And malphite was a tanky cc to support the carry in lane. Thats why his abilities cost so much. He snared when opponents out of position, then both he and partner pounced. His armor also scaled vs minion waves so he could act more as a meat shield.
"Hey I'm gonna sit here and shit talk tanks for two videos and say how brain dead easy they are except for the one tank that I like that just so happens to be the easiest and most brain dead of all the tanks" - Gbay 2017
Derick Jones well when you have the person who is unkillably tanky also doing more damage than mid or the adc is it not inherently easier since its much harder for you to die?
Tanks and support are probably the two hardest roles to play in League because too often your carries will watch you die when you initiate, after telling them you're going to initiate, you ping that you're about to initiate, and they say "ok I'll follow you." They can't really complain about positioning when you stun/ult all 5 opponents, either. Usually, they just decide they want to save HP so they can go grab blue bluff. Support runs into similar problems where they heal/shield the carry, peel things off, and the carry won't auto-attack. Tanks also run into the problem Gbay mentions in the video...sometimes, you just don't do any damage. Your job is to initiate and peel, while soaking up all of your opponents' abilities so Yi can walk in and right click on everything without problems. This is a problem when Yi is 0/9/2 with boots and a BF Sword @ 20 minutes and less cs than everyone else in the game. Even if all of this falls into place where your teammates are paying attention, it's up to the tanks in the game to decide when to commit to a team fight or when to take objectives. Knowing what to do in what situations is what makes or breaks a game. High elo players aren't there because they have good mechanics...they're there because they have good judgement.
Blue Malphite is the best. For Runes: RESOLVE: Aftershock - Demolish - Conditioning - Second Wind (Can be subbed for Overgrowth, but the heals are great for laning) SORCERY: The Ultimate Hat - Trancendence Build: Iceborn Gauntlet - Frozen Heart - Frozen Heart - Seraphs Embrace - Frozen Heart - Frozen Heart I rush the 2nd frozen heart before Seraphs to ensure I cannot be killed. With only one and the gauntlet, you'll still die quickly in the team fights. With just 2 frozen hearts and the gauntlet, you have over 700 armor before ulting. And you just demolish any champions health pool. AD champs cannot kill you. And you do enough damage to kill any squishy mage before they can hurt you. In the heavy AD teams that I've been seeing lately, this build has been insane. This build takes advantage of the stacking CDR from the frozen heart to get an extra 40 ap each heart after you cap out. You build the seraphs because of all the mana that comes with this build as well, to skyrocket your ap even further, and get a giant shield.
UltimatePiccolo seriously. He was so good in ardent meta for catching out ad's. Malphite isnt as strong as like the 5 other tanks top lane that are better. And hes only doing well vs bad matchups because bruisers and juggernauts are garbage rn.
Lol, the way you phrased it. "Please be honest and state this opinion." So, basically, if he disagrees with you, he's not being honest with what he thinks? I'm not commenting on League's new currency, but I don't like the way you said that. It sounds like you want him to simply say what YOU think, rather than what HE thinks.
Gbay has the memory of a goldfish. He doesn't seem to be able to remember anything past one week ago. There have been tons of champions that went from unplayable to best champion ever due to patches. Anyone remember Yi right before his rework?
outdated kits arent the problem, the problem is that everything has to be a skillshot now for no reason. you cant just have a nice relaxing point and click adventure on the majority of heroes anymore, instead you have to constantly think about where youre flinging out a spell. the low mana pools were a thing because you shouldnt be flinging out spells constantly, it was a problem if you were. pretty much everyone had a weak mana pool except mages and even they were at risk of running out if they just threw shit out constantly in lane (except annie)
He was the worst tank Top lane, but yeah I do agree he was a beast in the bot lane because 1, you didn't have to spam your abilities cause you had the ad carry doing that for you and 2. you could actually build armor items early on because your laning against an ad carry who DOES build AD, thus making him a beast he always was.
he meant a wide range, low cool down, instant gap closer ability that can delete any adc while giving long duration knock up if the target not instantly dead from the damage...yea worst tank ever
+giannis xalkis Well I don't bout that but in low elo that ultimate is fuckin game changing, let's say during mid-late game when there's a 5v5 teamfight going on and (if you're teammates follow up which let's assume they did) you'll fucking destroy the enemy team just cause of that 1 ulti, they won't have much time to retaliate and by the time they come out of the stun they're gonna be way too low to be able to retaliate by any means and just get easy killed.
So yeah it's all about decision making, you need to play a mind game against your opponent and just have the patience to wait for that right time to drop your utli, and so he definitely wasn't shit compared to other tank supports.
Ive been a Malphite one trick since i started playing league two years ago and its a great feeling when you carry your whole team as such a once ridiculed champ. My summoner name is Bearawrdo.
now a quality build i have been using is going press the attack with triforce, ohmwrecker, thornmail, ninjas, ludens, and deadmans. Who needs mr anyways!
-says malph is best tank -forgets about ornn, mao, shen, and singed. All have a higher pick rate than malph and above 50% winrate. Mao and singed have a higher winrate too.
Malphite has been pretty decent since forever, and he was strong ever since corruption potion. Only time he was a little weak was with armor becoming more expensive and before corruption potion was out. Furthermore, he's been doing good in all flat-armor pen metas.
"There are some champion right now that are unplayable like nautilus" dude wtf how is nautilus unplayable. He's still a strong almost unkillable tank who can easily catch out a carry if mispositioned. With new runes his damage is also quite good
darnell168 you realize the whole premise of this Video, is that Malph was bad ( below 42% winrate is trash, below 5%pick rate is even more trash) and now isnt, right?
Nautilus sat at a below 50% winrate, in all elos. Main whatever you want, trash is trash. You can make a beautiful sculpture out of trash, but its still made of trash.
Wao, it's almost like resource management was a demonstration of mechanical skill in MOBAs before LoL came along and made both cooldowns and mana costs completely irrelevant. It's ALMOST like the problem with LoL is the sheer about of ability spam that comes out with little to no downsides.
If you still spam shit you're gonna go out of mana anyways dude Unless you build items or pick runes specifically to aid in mana sustain. Riot has removed Mana Pots for a reason too
Rave Elemental "rito have removed manapots for a reason" played kleptomancy yet or bischuitrune? In kleptomabcy there are manapots and a biscuit is basicly a health and manapot combined.
i always loved Malphite, he helped me a lot when i first started playing league, and he became one of, if not, my favorite tank on the game. Also, his full ap mid was a beast
ive been watching your content alot when not playing lol now that i started out again as a noob i realise that i can adapt to some of these tips that you give out on these vids and now im carrying team with like a 100 cs lead on everybody in the game (including my team), and my map play has gotten better thx for giving these tips gbay now i can goddamn enjoy league
To address what you said about tanks. Sure if you focus on their abilities, they might come off as objectively easy, but having a tank that understands who to peel, where to be, and who to CC, that's entirely skilled based.
Gbay did you forget there were times where Malphite was borderline meta? Dude has an AS slow on a normal ability in a world where the only options for that are Frozen Heart and Randuins which are some of the less picked tank items in the game since they have no offensive potential. Any time ADs are the meta he at least shows up as a counterpick. Not only is that the case now but as you pointed out runes are compensating for major weaknesses he has. Sure he might be old but that doesn't mean he was designed to be weak, he was always intended to be anti-physical given he slows AS and scales his damage from armor. Maybe that in itself may be enough reason to rework him since it leaves little outplay potential for attack reliant ADs but unless you're highly mobile, ignore cc, or are a mage Malphite is definitely a threat.
Maybe my memory is a bit shaky, but I definitely remember Malphite being a perfectly viable, even top tier, champion in the past, in top or mid. If nothing else he was definitely one of my better champions, hard to fuck up, generally pretty safe in lane, and able to win games with one button without that being all he's good for. I might not play anymore, but it's nice to see Malph still doing great without Riot turning him into a completely new champion that happens to share a name, like a lot of others his age.
I just love the new runes. you have champions like malphite and amumu who are benefiting a lot from resovle + sorcery, but then you also have champions like katarina and wukong getting stronger with domination + precision, and still then, you have niche strategies like klepto ezreal
malph is one of my mains since beta and actually i'm playing him often in jungle with lethal tempo and max out W first. Combined with steraks and iceborn gauntlet, the first AA after activating W will deal 300-500 dmg and every attack afterwards is still hurting. AS is at 1.5 without lethal tempo and normally i have ~500 Armor, ~150 MR and 3300 HP
Not to mention- they buffed his W so as long as his shield on his passive is up, he gets %90 of his armor which makes the start of any skirmish great. Yes, once it's gone you lose that armor but while it's there, it's so good. Especially if you start the fight with a W or E. also, Malphite is the best champion against Kled just a heads up.
I've never played malph in the top lane only as a last or secound to last pick in the jgl vs and all ad team. I don't always get to use him but when i do win or lose i have fun and it's just a blast
I just wanted to point out that Ultimate Hat scales multiplicatively with CDR, not additively. I don't exactly know how and what formula it is, but a Rioter posted something about it on the boards the other day. I've had a few other clarity issues with the new runes (futures market) so I hope they fix that soon.
Transendence : build tear + Stuck fronzen heart \ iceborn gauntlet , become a late game monster with nearrly 1000 armor and you oneshot people. (Transendence giving Ap based on cdr, tear giving ap based on mana) pretty fun build 😂
The socery tree as main rune an malph sounds really really good but i like still more the resolve tree as main since malphite synergyze well with aftershock in teamfights or grasp for extra sustain in lane and then goes ultimate hat and transcendense as second runes (cuz i dont want really to poke my enemys to death instead of scalling with farming)
Gbay, malphite's early strength against [ad lanes] was that he could start and max W and while his shield was up he'd have 100+ armor at level 1. It would be unbearable and give him unreasonable wave clear. It was nearly impossible to lose lane 1v1 on malphite with armor runes pre 7.22. Your issues have to do with maxing Q, as far as I can tell.
The point is you don't play him top, just play mid. Your q works really well to stop people from farming at low level and once you get your ult you easily kill any of the squishy mid laners that you are likely to play against. and building armor even when in mid lane still works to protect from primarily ad junglers.
Played against a Malphite tank yesterday. He had 1k armor, literally flash ulted the adc every fight autoed her once with gauntlet and killed her every single time. Even when the adc was good enough to flash out of the ult in time, he would auto literally anything near the adc and the gaunlet proc would be the size of the entire lane and he would just walk her down with attack speed reduction and just kill her. It was not fun to play against. Did more damaged than the feed Jynx late game due to being unkillable and gauntlet synergyzing so well with his kit.
"I don't think we've ever seen a complete 180 like this where a champion goes from one of the worst picks out there to one of the best..." Ezreal **cough, cough**
