Starting a sentence with “I was up all night with a lovely woman” and ending it with “talking about horoscopes, personal traumas, and brewing kombucha” is the most sapphic thing I’ve ever heard, well done 😂
I really appreciate the abundance of silence in this video, and the use of camera shots that linger for a while before cutting to the next thing. Really sets a mood!
That's the joy of living in remote areas like this. You can listen to your breath and all the little cracks and drips in the forest. I grew up in small town BC but am in Houston TX now, so I miss silence.
I think it encapsulates the tranquility and beauty of that lifestyle wonderfully. ASMR next level and if Nicole's still doing her own filming then wow!
I find these videos of yours wonderfully soothing. The silence, the landscape, and the okie dokies. It's so different from my life that it's like going on a mini holiday for however long the video lasts. Thank you for sharing with us.
It does not matter how "pretty" something is, if it cannot do the job it is intended to do. That looks like a great knife. very functional. And one you can beat around on as needed without fear. Well done!
Pro-tip from my Search and Rescue survival days: In most situations we tend to lose the most body heat through our armpits and our necks. And I noticed a distinct lack of scarves while you've been freezing your butt off. So I advise you to try improving your scarf game!
LOL at Carolina bouncing around in the background. I quite enjoy your videos such as this with the beautiful nature scenes. That shot of the long greengrass flowing in the water beneath the ice was ace!!!
I cannot imagine you making a blade that couldn't chop. More important than aesthetics is how it feels in your hands. I hope the knife makes your hand happy!
Awesome that you have your own forge, anvil and belt sanders, or access to them. That is a big camp knife, a user. Not like a dock canoe, but one that actually can deal with rocks.
Idk who the lucky lady is but damn. I love these videos, it's sorta asmr like just having a look at what a life outside of the city is like, far away from normal civilization
Bless you, Nicole. I was born in the Lower Mainland and spent most of my life in Alberta, and this is the first time I've ever heard of someone microwaving their socks. Please stay warm!
Beautiful as always Nicole! Thank you. I just came back from a winter hike in Colorado’s Rocking Mountains so the ambiance connects😊. Regarding “the blades”: when I eventually “pass” my family will be puzzled (if they aren’t already)at why I should have needed so many different boots, crampons, ice axes, packs, …😊😊
This setting is simply beautiful and peaceful. Seemingly idyllic for one who would like to shed themselves of civilization (me, I would like to do that!!!) Thank you for sharing the beauty that is our world 🥰❤
I have the same jacket you wore when you were quenching your knife. It's one of my favorites. Love this video. The cold snap we had and the snow dumps were the worst.
Nicole, thanks for sharing! That video was amazingly well filmed and beautiful, capturing the moment, the peace and tranquillity 😎! Hope your dating goes well! 🙂❤
I love how you "ask" Bambi, play "aggressive house music" and Bambi's ears seem to be aimed as far from the music as possible without moving her body out of patting range... Nicole hugging a coffee pot is a mood. Having also "lived through" the chill recently... I can relate a bit. But it did make me smile to see her snuggled up to a coffee pot. As someone living on the opposite side of the mountains from the Ocean... and far from any major sources of water, I handle the cold better than the snow. But a winter without snow would seem VERY odd.
So cute from beginning to end. The glimpses of your life are so finely judged. I think this sort of videologue should be recognised as an art-form like poetry.
😊 Love from Yellowstone 🦬 Your a pleasant surprise from the mundane. Your videos bring me peace and humor. May I humbly request log shelters video. How to make emergency shelters and such?. ❤ Rememer your awesome
For a couple years after my last deployment I lived with a couple lesbians and a couple...drag queens? Female impersonators ? 2 gay bottoms who performed as women. I was told that lesbian dating always involves a u haul? I miss those days. The kindness extended to me a straight older man ( 33 they were all in their 20s I think. Hard to gage. The "mother " may have been my age or older. I still cherish the memories of those beautiful people getting ready for a night out and the 15 or so ( probably less. There was a rotation along the fridge and a core of 6-10) I was broken in mind and spirit from the horror of what man is capable of and the tremendous Guilt of survival not just among my Devil Dog brethren. But my wife passed from cancer months before I got home so I was completely unprepared to care for my miracle of a Daughter. 8 at the time. These "women" would all gather around the largest bathroom and prepare. The absolute wonder and joy my daughter had watching and participating when opinions were needed and she got to dress up with them and they taught her how to do makeup and were there for her a couple years later when she had her first menstruation. I was as far from their world as anyone could be. I worked with Freedom ( African American gay bottom and performer.) I was looking for a place off base and after some customers were...impolite She asked me to move in with their Fam😂 she had such flare. Huge house on the hill. They brought me back to life...and I found that a lot of women go to gay bars and that for many the lesbian aspect was fluid. Freedom said it was 50% the girls of the couple weren't really gay. That opinion was a VERY EXPLOSIVE and polarizing one. I never bothered to form an opinion. What I remember is joy and sometimes heartbreak. Kindness and a zest for life I'd never witnessed outside of a village in Africa. I love the channel and wish you every success. I am grateful for the reminder. To all; I hope that you and those you care for are happy, healthy, and safe this new year. Semper Fidelis
I know nothing about blades and forging, so while you were saying all the mistakes you did on that blade, the only thing I could think of was "nonetheless, it's so cool, it looks like a dragonfly wing"! The fact that it's also as deadly as a dragonfly makes it even cooler 💚 lots of love to you and Bambi, from the (too hot but we are complaining anyway that it's cold) capital of Italy 💚
Well, time for Blacksmithing to come back as a Hyperfocus. Darn it, I wasn’t done the last one. I am in awe of that blade you made. I can’t wait to see what you make next.
Great video. Love the snow. We haven't had that kind of snow down here in the Blue Ridge Mountains for years. I have a stack of wood I cut up from a fallen tree. Thanks for the motivation.
As much as I love your woodchopping, I love your scenery shots as well. They're like little...moments to catch our breath and enjoy nature. The flowing water under the ice was a terrific moment. Thank you for allowing us these little glimpses into your (and Bambi's) life. Keep being awesome! Much love from Northern Ontario
What a mood this video (and this style of video) is, oh my gosh. I sat down with dinner freshly made, and this was just really nice, chill, funny, enjoyable. Thank you for sharing all of this random stuff you have going on, it's so comfy 🥲
NicoIe, I am a new subscriber, and want to express my appreciation for your channel. This video particularly has a lovely mix of macro and panoramic shots, silence and ASMR of: fire, coffee pot, and even the gentle sifting of snow out of the sky. Not to forget the satisfying thump of an axe into a chopping block. And while I know you have a varied audience, with a lot of endearing and damn funny subtext to your videos, I am mostly here for one reason.... the splitting of wood. The techniques for and, yes, the philosophy, of splitting wood of all kinds. Every block of wood requires it's own careful assessment before the swing of the axe or hatchet. The care you take in honing every blade to a razor sharp edge. (Hmmm... starting to sound a little pervy there, however I am sure you know what I mean). By explanation: I am on the Atlantic Coast of Canada, and was born and grew up on Prince Edward Island. Ah, ferry life. Ice on the strait. Golden light of summers. The fragrance of spruce, pine and maple wood. I spent a significant part of my childhood on my grandparents farm, and learned my wood splitting and sharpening skills from my Grandfather at a VERY young age. I still have the scar between the two forefingers of my left hand where I may my first (and last) chopping mistake at the age of 11. Serious wound. Never felt the cut. People would (wood) travel 2 hours by car to have their blades sharpened by him. His philosophy of "sharp enough" was not the physics of parting the wood, but rather the metaphysical effect of a blade that is so damn sharp the wood flies apart rather than experience the force of the blade itself. Now that is f'ing sharp, 'eh?! 😉 For about 6 years of my adult life, I lived in cabins on the shore of a lake or the ocean, where the only heat source was either a Morso or Jotul Scandinavian wood stove. I have happily split many, many cords of wood. I totally get your passion for this. It's been a while now since my last wood stove, and I miss the wood-splitting, wood-burning life profoundly. Some of the happiest days of my life. So... thank you for this lovely diversion, the artistry and fun of your videos. Forgive the length of this comment. Keep up the great work.
The nature and scenic panning shots are absolutely stunning. 😍 I am appropriately jealous of where you live. I miss my wood stove and I have been thinking about getting a small one for my house. It would definitely cut down on the heating bill! Stay safe and toasty warm wishes to you. 🥰🫰🏻
Been in Vermont for 10 years. Had tons of power outages. The wood stove is the only thing keeping me from getting a generator. I may go solar at some point, but the wood stove makes it feel like there's no rush.
I love how well filmed your videos are. The cinematic qualities are really lovely to see after so many made for tiktok types of videos, which are fun and all but lack the qualities that yours have had more and more of recently. You live in an incredible place and you have quite a unique lifestyle. I admire your 'Get up and Get at it' kind of lifestyle. Oh and by the way, your pink nose and rosie cheeks are utterly adorable, since most of us have indoor lives where I live, I don't see that very often and I must say it really suits you. All that healthy living is doing you good I think 😊. God bless you and your lovely dog. Be safe out there my dear. Have a warmer week.
I would love an extra long video of just you being a badass blacksmith, making a knife, a sword, just doing your thing. I think it would be very soothing to have a video like that in the background while I work, or even while I sleep. There was just something so nice about these nighttime blacksmithing shots in particular (1:55) I also like to watch Tested with Adam Savage and he does videos where all he does is just work in his shop in the background and I enjoy having those videos playing as background noise.
Love the intro shots. Western red cedar, western hemlock. I love the tiny soft needles on the hemlock, and their tiny cones. I'm guessing I live withing a few hours south of your spread. I too have a beaver in my backyard, but he does not dress as snappy and never wants to hang out and chat. Ahhh and you have a forge too! (get a shot of your coffee mug warming on a large red-hot chunk of leaf-spring, makes a great pic). edit: Ah, Ok, you're over on Vancouver. So. The next time you cross the border: the Z-recycles scrapyard in Lynden is an excellent place to find materiel for smithing projects, and will even slice you off a section of railroad rail for a small anvil, if needed. The swap meet in Concrete WA on Saturdays in the summer is where I've scored some of my best axe finds, including a Sager Chemical Puget Sound pattern and a lovely full sized hewing broad axe. One of my friends from work ( a loggers daughter) will bring me axes and mauls her family had abused to be re-hung, I still have one where the eye is deliberately off-center to aid in the "twist" to help split the round. Keep collecting, keep splitting, keep the stove going!
Yes, but also no. Reasonably modern cameras have been around for about a decade, that's not a super long time. And to have that quality of camera in a phone and not a 300 dollar point and shoot or 1000 dollar DSLR? 5 years tops. You're old, but not that old!
