Have you or will ever do a video on how you keep track of what you read? In a journal? On computer? In a notebook. I am in my 70s and an avid reader since childhood and I so enjoy watching your enthusiasm and intelligence with your love of books. It keeps me happy. You and your friend and her cat of course, are just lovely. From Tasmania.

Wow, I was reading ‘The Remains of the Day’ too, but then nursing school started kicking my butt and I had to stop. I was about 40% through, very slow paced book. Definitely going to come back to it during winter break. Definitely seems like a cozy winter read.

I love watching the same content on both channels! I've been watching Emma's videos for a while and hers were the only bookish videos I watched in English, but I guess that is about to change now :) Btw, "Zweig" is pronounced with more "t" at the beginning (Tsweig, not Sweig), but the rest was perfect. I reread chess this year (actually listened to it) and it is so good. I first read this almost 15 years ago and I still remembered it well.

I started Never Let Me Go but found it slow and dull so I put it aside. Hearing you talk passionately about it makes me want to pick it back up and read it with a fresher perspective. I relate to what Emma said about the book but the way you talk about your interpretation of it makes me realize I probably missed the point. I hope I will like it better this time around!

you are both glowing :-) im very eager to read more Ishiguro after finishing Never Let Me Go. I think it was a uniquely crafted novel, even though I didn't enjoy the narrator's voice and I understand the criticisms. It's one of the books I don't get tired of talking about though, and that means a lot to me. looking forward to more videos of you two, hope you get the opportunity to meet as frequently as you want 💜

I also started reading manga for the first time after watching netflix's live adaptation of one piece! It really helped to already know the basics of the story, I feel like that made it so much easier to keep going and not being overwhelmed with the new format and also story. But now in over a week and half I've read over 140 chapters (17 volumes) and now it makes me feel weird reading it left to right haha Its something to get used to! There are these mangas that so many people say they are some of the best stories ever written, it's kinda sad I wasn't going to give them a shot because of their format. And I'm glad I'm already started with one of those and I can already tell it will be one of the best stories ever

Never Let Me Go….I recommended that to my book club last year after watching Carolyn gush about it. I have similar taste to her and I did like it, but probably not as much as she did. No one else in book club liked it. I watched the movie recently and really enjoyed the movie. I’ve only read one other Ishiguro, and loved it - Klara and the Sun.

Hey Carolyn! I‘ve recently read „Either/Or“ by Elif Batuman, which is the second part of a series, and am now reading the first part called „The Idiot“. Have you checked out the authors work? Because since its a lot about literature, I think you could enjoy it! Batuman also has a book named „The Possessed“ where she writes about classics and their authors, apparently mostly russian ones. I’ve read NLMG and TROTD by Ishiguro and my reaction to these two books is exactly the same as yours: was deeply moved by NLMG, gave it 5 stars and 4 stars to TROTD. Ishiguro is such a marvelous writer! And I just started reading Klara and the sun. Now, about Zweig! (Pronounced ts-v-eye-g). Another top notch writer! I haven’t read Chess story yet, but I have read Beware of Pity - this book is a MUST READ, do you hear me? It’s a must read!!! I am sure you’ll be knocked out by it as I was, since it seems we have a similar taste. Not sure Emma would like it, her taste is a bit strange to me. I do like to watch her vlogs as well, but I’ve been a bit disappointed in her book ratings lately. She’s nice though, and it’s wonderful seeing you two getting on so well! ❤

I read "Never Let Me Go" and I wasn't impressed with it and the movie was okay. I tried to read "Chess" but ended up skimming it and thinking it wasn't worth it. I loved Chess as a kid and would recommend "Fresh" which is a movie about Chess or "Searching for Bobby Fisher." I loved the movie "The Remains of the Day" but I did not like the book. I think maybe the author is better for the movie than the books he writes.

“Even If This Love Disappears Tonight” by Misaki Ichijo really did make me think of the first girl I loved and held her hand at 14 years old. Three girls and I did a race swimming and a kid went down a slide and his butt hit her head so hard she forgot she was in love with me on the day she fell in love with me and thus ended my first love story. WELL THE AMAZING HAPPENED THIS YEAR. One third of all my favorite top 39 books were read in 2023 thanks to the month of October having my favorite book of all time by Fyodor Dostoevsky and finally a Japanese author Misaki Ichijo made my top books list. ChatGPT got me to read "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee and my mother got me to read “Teacher Man” by Frank McCourt and “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair. Here is what I read for October by Fyodor Dostoevsky, unless declared otherwise: 1) “The Insulted and Humiliated” 2) “The Eternal Husband” 3) "The Gentle Spirit” 4) "The Dream of a Ridiculous Man 5) “An Honest Thief” 6) "A Christmas Tree and a Wedding” 7) "The Heavenly Christmas Tree” 8) “Another Man's Wife and a Husband Under the Bed” 9) “A Little Hero” 10) "My Uncle's Dream” 11) “Netochka Nezvanova” (nameless nobody) 12) “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe 13) “Even If This Love Disappears Tonight” by Misaki Ichijo These 13 books make this brag possible. 1) “The Insulted and Humiliated” by Fyodor Dostoevsky 2) “Vilette” by Charlotte Brontë 3) “Chesapeake” by James A. Michener 4) “Poland” by James A. Michener 5) “Even If This Love Disappears Tonight” by Misaki Ichijo 6) "Childhood, Boyhood" by Leo Tolstoy 7) “The Tenant of Wildfell Hall” by Anne Brontë 8) “Teacher Man” by Frank McCourt 9) “The Complete Poems of Anne Bronte” by Anne Brontë 10) “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair 11) "Caribbean" by James A. Michener 12) “Hawaii” by James A. Michener 13) "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee TOP FAVORITE 40 BOOKS "The Holy Bible: King James Version" copyright 1967 1) "The Insulted and Humiliated" by Fyodor Dostoevsky 2) "Verbal Behavior" by Dr. B. F. Skinner 3) "Resurrection" by Leo Tolstoy 4) "The Idiot" by Fyodor Dostoevsky 5) "Fathers and Sons" by Ivan Turgenev 6) Myth Adventures - series by Robert Asprin 7) The Chronicles of Narnia - series by C. S. Lewis 8) "Vilette" by Charlotte Brontë 9) "War and Peace" by Leo Tolstoy 10) "A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn 11) "Smoke" by Ivan Turgenev 12) "Chesapeake" by James A. Michener 13) "Poland" by James A. Michener 14) "Roots" by Alex Haley 15) The Silmarillion - The Hobbit, or there and back again - The Lord of the Rings - Middle Earth stories by J. R. R. Tolkien 16) "Even If This Love Disappears Tonight" by Misaki Ichijo 17) "Childhood, Boyhood" by Leo Tolstoy 18) Foundation Series - Isaac Asimov 19) "Eugene Onegin" by Alexander Pushkin 20) "Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostoevsky 21) "Paris 1919: six months that changed the world" by Margaret MacMillian 22) "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall" by Anne Brontë 23) "Virgin Soil" by Ivan Turgenev 24) "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen 25) The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn - by Mark Twain 26) Old Mother West Wind series - wildlife series by Thornton Burgess 27) "Microbe Hunters" by Paul de Kruif 28) "Cancer Ward" by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn 29) "Teacher Man" by Frank McCourt 30) "Kon Tiki" by Thor Heyerdahl 31) "The Complete Poems of Anne Bronte" by Anne Brontë 32) "From Beirut to Jerusalem" by Thomas Friedman 33) "The Berdine Un-Theory of Evolution: and Other Scientific Studies Including Hunting, Fishing, and Sex" by William C. Still isn't my favorite but I definitely appreciate it more, especially about how you discuss it as well 😊 the movie is exquisite tho 🤌
