What were the mistakes from the GX/Sun and Moon Era? The meta back then had alot of variety in playable/good meta decks from what I recall. Every type was usable. Right now we have about 5 types that are very mid and very underused. There's no real good fire decks, grass and fighting are almost non existent (very few are surfacing), no dragon based decks exist, and metal is starting to resurface slowly because of the TEF set. Aside from deck typing, the TEF meta has changed slightly, but not too much yet. There is still alot of experimenting, and discovery to be had when building new decks, or revamping older ones. In my opinion, I don't think we're completely there yet in terms of a super fruitful and versatile meta. It's slowly building up to it though.

@@aS__Spencer the SM gx meta was so good, I still have my decks from that period and I remember having so much fun. My issue is with tag team GX, with that the "strong basic pokemon" thing came back and in an unsustainable way at that, then gmax came around to try and walk around that issue, which it did pretty well but they're still 3 prize bodies. And now that we're getting rid of most of them and that there's a nice variety of basic and evolution centered decks I feel like the meta is in a very healthy state like it wasn't for a very long time. Also, I get your argument about pokemon types, but to me is not about that, more about the strategy itself. If during the XY era I liked to play xerneas break, now I'm looking forward on playing future box, not because they're fairy type but because of the similar way to accelerate energy onto the board to get ready strong attackers. @alexemp6201 Yeah, I can understand the argument about "super strong basic pokemon". It was pretty hectic and too op back in those days (I'm looking at you Pikarom, and Reshizard). It definitely was a problem during that time. You make a good point that in comparison the meta is healthier because we have a balance of strong basic decks and strong evolution decks. As far as strategy and deck archetypes go, I like what I've been seeing in our current meta and in the Japanese TEF meta. However, my only statement that remains is, is that I still want to see more new archetypes surface. For example, where are the tool drop decks? That archetype has yet to come about in our meta and it is a strong one. It was strong in the past and we got alot of support for it now too. For TEF, I will be experimenting with Electrode/Honchkow V, since it seems like the only solid tool drop deck to make. Aside from that, I already have a plethora of decks that I'll be testing out, and I honestly do look forward to TEF when it officially releases on the 22nd. I want the meta to be shaken up!

@@alexemp6201The Tag Team era, plus the absolute overscaling of set sizes at the end of the SM era led me to walk away from the game for a long while. Tag Teams were so unbelievably busted, you either played a deck with them or you lost. Before they were introduced my three favorite decks to play were Zoroark Trashalanche, Lost March and Ultra Necrozma. I couldn’t play the game beyond that. I’m just now starting to get back into the game. Paldean Fates was cool to me because the shiny Pokémon have always been cool to me. I just recently opened a Great Tusk ex tin and pulled the alternate Charizard ex, was super hyped. I think I’m going to attempt to get the cards for Ancient Box, and maybe try to reestablish into some lower level competitive gameplay again.

That's virtually the same card though. Most hands likely won't be holding more than 2 Items at a time on their oppoent's turn, most of the time.

No it's not it's literally not the same. ​Meta decks usually farm hands and having an option to discard dead item cards would be more balanced. Eri discarding rare candies and stuff can just end the game. @@GreenMonkeySam

I said "virtually" not "literally". If you're holding more than two Item cards in your hand, you probably didn't fully play your hand optimally. If Eri let your opponent choose what to discard it would be borderline unplayable, NOT balanced. Punishing players for relying on Rare Candy and holding it in their hand is the point!

Eri's use is only relative on what type of deck and variant you play. You're clearly not as worried about Eri if you play a full evolution line as opposed to relying on Rare Candy. Eri is strong, but not overpowered.

@@icephoenix174Oh, I see. I don't think so, since "Radiant Charjabug" is the name not "Charjabug". It should work just like having "Alolan" or "Rocket's" in the name, which means it does NOT count for the attack.

From other openings I've seen, it seems 2 Ace Specs per box is pretty standard, seems like 3 ARs and 2-3 Full arts are also standard so the fact his box had 4 ARs and 4 Full Arts makes me think it was that which took the place of a gold or SIR.

Yep, but if you gather materials, and use a clairvoyant sense, you're back to hitting for 240, or research first for 10 cards for 300 dmg. Love tink ex.

@@LittleDarkFury Could, but I think in most stage2s it's not reliable enough as a strategy. Most of the time it saves you from 1 bit of acceleration, but your deck probably needed that acceleration anyway. So it becomes an extra card to tech and not actually consistency. The quack at least bounces it and can get use out of it multiple times.
