Yes I now understand how to work out the profit before starting with the actual business. Can you please send me a spreadsheet format template so I can plan.
I think most people start with small numbers because in Africa most farmers did not study farming but go into it simply out of love and they use those small numbers to learn and once they feel confident they increase number because you surely would not recommend a novice to buy 50 goats that's a disaster waiting to happen
This is really informative. I am trying to do a bit of research and then jump into this. I found your channel and its extremely informative. Thanks for putting this content out there.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. That was eye opening and I am thinking of venturing into goat farming and i thought it was easy and profitable even if u start with a small number. I wonder how those people who do inspirational videos saying they started with 4/5 local goats but they are now 200 etc really calculate the profit and loss as you did. I feel motivated but scared, considering i wanted zero grazing. seems like it will not work
It is possible to make good profit starting with 4 or 5 goats. It all just depends on a number of factors. Anyone starting 4 or 5 will: Firstly, raised them in his own backyard, meaning, he will not employ any worker. Secondly, he grows grasses, maize and cut other shrubs around for them. This means he is not buying food. He will do these two things for one year alone. This will reduce his running or operating cost considerably. Feeding is about 60% of the cost of running a goat farm.
The other scenario is you can sell your crosses F1 at a better price than selling them at 50USD for meat. I also believe we shld be moving to selling animals per weight that way farmers will get a better deal or open your own outlet like selling the meat instead of selling your goats to a middleman.
I agree with you 100%! It would be great if farmers can open an outlet but collaborate so as to share the running costs of the outlet meanwhile all are able to sell their produce in there
Thank you for sharing your acquired knowledge, I really appreciate a Zimbabwean’s perspective on goats in regards to market and what works in Zimbabwe. Is there anyway to protect your animals from snake bites? It is a costly loss to lose a boer buck with how much they are going for😢. Lastly do you have any groups or your own whatsapp group we can join to get more information such as where to buy the initial stock, transporting them etc.
Thank you for your feedback. Yes snake bites are a challenge but there are 2 options. 1- Zero grazing 2. - Insurance at 6% of the value per year. Then the WhatsApp group is a good idea will create it and send the link in the comments!!
Please I need ur help I have small and big pregnant goat The small goat became sick with many tiny blood sucking insect on his body, I invited a vet and they treat her, two weeks later she died yesterday. Now my pregnant goat have that blood sucking insect all over her body, she have been shouting since morning up till now, please help
Its most likely to be heart water disease. When sick you need short acting antibiotics. Then to prevent you need to spray your goats every week with an acaricide
